| soccer is getting more and more a billionaires game with many smaller clubs left behind.
union as well isnt growing and many of their clubs appreciate our sport
so the future will see more clubs from other codes wanting SL sides.
eg Paris, and perhaps london etc
this is a much easier way to expand the sport
top down, using the facilities and financial resources of the clubs with the RFL only granting sky funds
cheap and effective

| No way, it's a stupid idea. Clubs need their own identities and brands to be able to market themselves. That is the biggest thing holding Harlequins back at the moment and I would hate if we had more clubs that were lesser relations to big sporting teams from other codes.

| Perhaps dally would like to provide a list of soccer / union clubs who have been turned down when they offered to fund a league club.
It's been tried in the past, it has almost always been an abject failure. There hasn't been a rush of soccer / union clubs willing to have a go since.

All rugby league needs is money. There is none in Super League at the moment. Look at the Indian Premier League. Manchester United are rumoured to applying for a franchise, the same would happen with league were the sport on that kind of footing financially.
But no club, union or league is likely to want to move into a sport that has no financial resources to tap into. Any 'new' club faces at least 10 years of massive losses before they could think about making any money.

| Ru is dying in devon! There usedto be 3 Devon leagues now there is 1 and most teams can only field 1 side the merit table (2nds comp) has all but gone. But football doesn't really have big representation. If sws take off I'd love to see another championship team around Bristol or Swindon to start spreading to the southwest

fulham was the most succesful london rl club ever
rather than branding as "london" or "broncos" by linking with an established soccer side that gave it a fair go, it worked.
if quins fails, i think a 2nd or 3rd division london soccer side adopting their name and colours.

leicester is unlikely, very successful and famous union club. dont think they would be interested in hosting a RL club
i would like to see more effort put into south yorkshire, the north east and cities in the yorks/lancs that dont have much RL exposure.

leicester were once very close to bidding for a SL license 5 years or so ago.

however the success of the FA cup allowed 2 RL clubs to convert over

Thirdly, this relates to entire clubs switching codes rather than funding a team in a different code, so is not even relevant to this debate.

so unless something is 100% exactly the same as before, its not relevant huh?
i think whats happened in the past is very relevant
i also think whats happening at wrexham is also relevant
there are many clubs in other codes which are lagging in areas which the sport of RL wants to get too
as the game grows i expect these clubs to want a SL license
rather than setting up new clubs, this is a much easier option

| The Wrexham situation is different to most though - bordering on the RL homelands, huge ground that is underused, and a largely disgruntled RU fanbase. I don't think there is an equivalent anywhere else in the country.

I think Dally's right. New entrants to SL will be either existing Championship/French clubs or new "expansion" clubs partnering Rugby Union or Football clubs. This is the lowest risk expansion option.
As we've seen with The Crusaders this can be achieved and the partnering entities can remain independent. Shared resources such as stadium, marketing, ticketing, administration, training facilities etc make this route the most financially and operationally viable.

Total and unadulterated drivel. At the outbreak of WW1 the Football League consisted of 44 clubs of which all bar seven were in the Midlands and the North and out of those seven six were in London (the other club was Bristol City). In order to expand the game in the South the FL took over the Southern League's top division lock stock and barrel in season 1920/21.
