Quote Gillette World Club Challenge ad campaign to hit TV screens
Watch out Emmerdale and Coronation Street – the greatest Rugby League players in the world are coming! Viewers of two of Britain’s favourite soaps have a special treat in store next week when an exciting advertising campaign promoting the Gillette World Club Challenge between Leeds Rhinos and Melbourne Storm hits their screens on Yorkshire Television. The 30-second ad, ‘When Two Rugby League Worlds Collide,’ will appear in 12 slots throughout next week, including immediately after both Emmerdale and Coronation Street on Thursday (February 11) at 7.28pm and 8.59pm. Other times include the mid-show break of the ITN Evening News on Tuesday (6.45pm), during This Morning on Wednesday (10.30am) and the half-time break during Lion Country on Wednesday (19.45).....[continues'"
Great news and looks to be a nicely targeted ad for ticket sales. I hope they include some game footage and not just flying logos though!

| good idea. but why dont they advertise each round of SL instead to encourage people to go to regular games as well or even invest in a season launching advert nationally like the nrl have every year.

Probably because the RFL are organising this match and because it's the first time they've tried something like this (as far as I know). Also, a lot of (probably all of) the NRL advertising on TV is part of their deal with the broadcasters, not a case of the NRL handing over money.
If rounds of Super League were to be advertised (with the exception of the Magic Weekend) it would be up to the clubs to contribute their share of the costs.
A 30 second advert just in Yorkshire during Coronation Street costed #4500 in 2008 so the RFL need to ration ads.

Of course. Who knew Union 'saved' South Africa?
Good to see the RFL trying something new. Hopefully it works, and if not, they had a go! (Easier to promote your event when you get free adverts on the BBC between every bloody progranne and as thinly disguised news stories.)

Yes, from the amount of times I've seen that advert they must have given the 6 Nations 2 million+ worth of advertising.
There was a thread on totalrl about 10 years later from the media petition. Perhaps we ought to have a Freedom of Information campaign and go after memos, minutes and budget, scheduling information for the Super League Show, 6 Nations adverts etc. I'm not sure what sort of info the BBC is required to give under the FOI Act though.

As I commented on twitter..
Why doesn't Clint Eastwood direct a film about Union and it's affiliation with the Vichy government? No, didn't think he would be interested in that one..

I was thinking about this today as I was listening to people who I know couldn't care lesss about rugby talking about the 6 Nations game. I doubt Rugby Union would have anywhere near the popularity if people knew its history and the fact that it is founded on corruption in the majority of nations. It's almost criminal that people don't really.
