| No the Japanese are probably not a threat as any RL player will be "coerced" by the Union boys.
It happened before and will again!
Bigotry is STILL alive in RU don't forget that.

| Japan, top level sport will never catch on.
I'll keep my Decca telly and Austin Maxi, I can't see Japan being able to compete with these b'Best of British' products like these.

| Could be wrong....but I think the yellow peril was originally coined to describe Chinese people and it was only a religious zealot who used it to describe all people from that neck of the woods in the early 1900's.

| The average Japanese on the street is interested in (in order) baseball, golf, soccer and sumo wrestling. Even RU doesn't appear on their radar.

| The craziest thing is that the Japanese are far more suited to league than union. They simply don't produce big enough forwards for union, but they would be easily big enough for league. Its odd that Japanese companies are still apparently pouring cash into the sport during the current recession.

y'see this is the problem with new media and the blogosphere: in the rush to write something everyday, rubbish which would never see the light of day in a proper news environment gets published.
I'll lay odds that any story which basically uses "rugby league player might or might not sign for Japanese rugby union club, if an offer were made, though there's no evidence that one has been" to claim "rugby league is big in Japan" would get no further than the spike in a newspaper where every story has to justify its space and fight off competitive real news.
