| Birmingham would be another good area for a magic weekend if they ever get this new 55,000 seater stadium built. With it's central location in the country.
The transport network is fantastic with trains, coaches, buses, airport, trams and even canal network oh and of course the roads. So it would be easy to get to and from, and also for getting around while in the city.
Birmingham has lots to do for everyone, including families. The pubs, bars, restaurants and nightclubs are mostly in the centre so the atmosphere wouldn't get lost.
The population there is huge so there's a lot of locals to attract including the 20% Asian population.
There's plenty of hotels available but also due to it's location would be good for day trips too.
It's just a thought about another location if that stadium does get built.

The proposed site is 1.1 miles from the centre so not too long of a walk but the site is also bordered by train lines, roads, served by local transport.

Eh? There's a train taking two hours every hour, used to head down there every other weekend and never had many problems, save the odd delay.

| The whole point of the Magic weekend is to promote rugby league in the area. The RFL wants a Scottish side in SL, which is why they are promoting Murrayfield again next year. I would expect a third year in 2011, in the hope that by then there could be a side ready to be promoted to the Championship in 2012, and to the SL in 2015. It may not happen, but that is the hope.
They also want an Irish side, so after Murrayfield I would expect Dublin Diversion weekend being a possibility in 2012 at the latest.
Birmingham would be behind Dublin. And by 2012 even Dublin could be competiting with Paris and Barcelona for the honour, given the likelihood of a Paris club and a Barcelona club wanting to join the Championship after Toulouse leaves it for Super League.

| Im not a big fan of these 'Magic Weekend' at all anyway, but if we should be looking to promote the game anyway, then it should be around the West Midlands area!
Birmingham would be an ideal location to host an event. Will never happen though.

Birmingham's bigger than Dublin, bigger than Edinburgh, bigger than Glasgow, bigger than Toulouse, 20 times bigger than Bridgend. So why should it or anywhere else in the midlands be so hated by ultra-expansionists?
Of course the RFL wouldn't do this as they don't care much about the game in the midlands and deliberately killed it off at a professional level. But Birmingham has direct lines from Sheffield, Doncaster, Wakefield, Leeds, York (not always stopped at all) in Yorkshire and direct lines from Warrington, Wigan, Manchester, Liverpool among other stations in Lancashire and several stations in Cumbria. Plus many midlands rugby league fans, while generally not caring about the local game, often support a northern team (usually Wigan, Saints or Leeds), so there would be interested locals

As far as I can tell there are less than a dozen of us, two post on this forum! When I talk to the locals, they don't care about either code, but generally have a dislike of league for no particular reason. Birmingham is endless suburbs with an endless lack of enthusiasm for anything and a massively over-expensive centre.
Cov would be better than Birmingham, though the two sit on each other pretty much - trains to Cov are about as regular and fast as trains about Brum.
So, what did the RFL do then?
