| Salford have failed to impress so far.
They have beaten Celtic at home and then got thumped by the lowly Wakefield. (Take the Aussies Demetriou, Drew, and Blanch, and the Scottish heritage Danny Brough out of the side and Wakefield is not a SL standard team).
Their first home ground attendance of 4,026 was abysmal. It was exceeded by the home game crowd of Celtic Crusaders and Harlequins this weekend.
Salford have some very good players but a poor coach and administration. The coach, who is personally a lovely man and a good TV commentator for sure, is not respected in Australia as a coach. The administration of Steve Simms has a lot of question marks around it. If the new stadium does not get under construction by early 2011, and their crowds do not increase to over 6,000, then I would expect that the RFL has every right to dump them.

| Were only two games into the season so far too early to be making judgements on how teams are going to fair, particularly Salford and Celtic who will take some type to adjust to the pace and physicality of superleague, or are you saying that Wigan will finish bottom because they got beat at home by lowly Wakefield?
As for your comments about Wakey, they have managed to stay in superleague for the last 10 years and last season spent long periods without Drew and Demetriou in the side, yet still managed to finish well clear of bottom. So in what way are they not superleague standard?

Good idea - now let's apply that simple rule across the rest of the SL and see how many 'good teams' are left! I hate to say it, but that bloke from Manly is right, it is a second rate comp in comparison to the Aussie league and EVERY ONE of the SL teams needs to wake up to that fact. An injury ravaged Wakey side held Englands finest to a respectable score - if we'd been playing almost any of the Aussie teams we'd have had a hiding! I don't think Leeds or Saints (Englands 2 best teams - ouch that hurts) would impress in the Aussie league if you took their imports out.

The RFL dont have ' the right ' to dump anybody
Do you mean ' Lowly Wakefield ' who beat W1g4n at the JJB
Take 3 aussies out of the Celtic or Catalans team and they are not SL standard
Are any coaches over here ' respected ' in Australia
Give it a rest Albert

I agree with that though.
Let's remember that Salford is expansion territory. Let's hope that they continue to improve their crowds and that a franchise spot will allow them to develop some home-grown players.

| What a load of e! How can you be so judgemental after they have only played 2 games. Talk about hanging a man without a trial, you could argue they have a 50% success rate, Muppet. The whole ethos with the 3 year franchising of the league is to let them buid up a decent team and some long term support.

| When you look at where we have come from last year starting again with an almost completely new team not forgeting competing with a young squad, i think this first year back is about finding our feet again, look at Catalans they were disgraceful in there first year and not so good in there second but in the third year when they were given chance to build from the previous two they didn’t do to bad did they, same with us when we came back in 2004 it took us a year or so to get back upto speed and we ended up making the playoffs two years after, i think you will see the best of Salford over the next two years with the stadium and money being pumped into our club, we will be just fine were building for the future, don’t forget a clubs future isn’t judged on one season and especially not the first season back to the elite league, lets just see how the next three years go then people can come back and judge.

| to be fair i thought salford played some decent stuff in that second half, enough to indicate to me they will be alright this season. wakey's scrambling defence was excellent or it would have been a much closer finish.
must admit dont know what happened to em for the first half hour

| Salford shouldn't have been considered until the new stadium was available. They are an amateur outfit, but it's reflective of the shocking overall standard of the clubs in Super League.
There are only Wigan, Hull and Warrington that have the facilities and support required. None of the other clubs have both.

Amature? Salford are one of the best run clubs in the game from a business point of view, same could be said for all the teams with bog standard stadia.

Look at the crowds - they are the only SL side in the third biggest city in England in the heart of the RL corridor - the inability to get a crowd doesn't suggest a well run club to me

Also not forgetting we have the biggest football team in the world about half a mile away from us who are currently dominating at the moment, its always going to be hard to compete! And if you haven’t realised Salford have never had a competitive team in Super League so how do you expect us to build a big fan base when what they are watching is average? We wont get a decent sized crowd until we compete on the pitch and we cant compete on the pitch until we can spend the full cap and we cant do that until we get the crowds so really if anything the salary cap is doing nothing for teams like us its just a big vicious circle?
