Question - After the Stones Bitter Championship, you were champions for finishing top, then we had a 8 team play-off for Old Trafford. Win that and you were Premiership winners. Other than the wording, what has changed ?

What's changed is who are considered to be champions for that season. Back then it was whoever finished top. Now it's who wins the Grand Final.

Also it's not really Sky's trophy. We of course had a playoff system to decide the champions well before TV even existed never mind Sky.

No one cares about the hubcap. Even the players looked embarrassed celebrating.

Correct lm afraid. You can't just change the importance of the two trophies to suit. Cas like everyone else started the season wanting to get to the GF. This LLS thing only became a priority for Cas fans when they looked certain to win it, how odd.

How anyone can say finishing top after the regular season is more difficult than beating the top sides to win what in effect is an elite mini league beggars belief.

The latter is far harder especially if you did it from say 8th certainly IMO

As for this "no one remembers of cares in a year or two" argument well that's the same whatever trophy you win! Sport is about the here & now; no one outside of Leeds cares if/when they did the treble anymore, or alternatively if the last piece of silverware a club won was some "tin pot" regional trophy when Noah was a lad (sarcasm spoiler)!

No, what you have here is the fans of one club trying to talk up there achievements.

I for one think as LLS winners go Cas this season are probably the most emphatic winners ever and thus it's a brilliant achievement. I for one have not used the derogatory 'hub cap' comment. The opening poster is being a snobbish a*se for doing so.

However his overall point is correct, the GF is the ultimate acholade by far. It's not anti-Cas or Hudds or whoever else has won it. it's the truth.

Cas fans need to take a step back, enjoy the moment then roll up the sleeves and take on the ultimate challenge, Then you can shove it tight down the OP's throat, something I'd enjoy seeing. However at the moment it looks a bit like you're getting your excuses in early and judging by what I saw last Thursday you don't need to. IMHO the performance Wakefield put in last Thursday would have beaten all our other top 8 rivals.

My comments were not specifically aimed at you Vasty, more the theme of this & other similar threads.
The simple fact remains that there are three prizes on offer to all SL clubs at the start of the season, any attempt to rank these in order is futile as each one can/will mean something different to each individual fan of each individual club - no one opinion is more right than any other.
Cas have now secured one of these prizes, one that no other team in their 90+ year history has achieved; so the club, town & fans are rightly celebrating it. Winning a Grand Final would be another hell of an achievement & would be celebrated in a different fashion as it would be a double.
I love the banter, which is why I threw the "regional trophy" bit in as I knew you'd take it in the spirit intended, but persistant attempts of some to demean Cas' achievement is purely sour grapes, no matter how much they try to drag fans into semantic based arguments.

It will be appreciated by player and fans when you get to a Grand Final, being dismissive is not the way to go.

The LLS shield is a cherry on top trophy. When combined, preferably with a GF win it adds satisfaction, that your team was able to perform in the pressure games and back up the consistency in the regular season.

On its own however, it's nothing but a token reward. No one gives a flying f*ck about hudds in 2013 or Warrington in 2011 and 2016. It's a safe bet that Warrington fans aren't looking back on last season as vintage and successful.


Yet still, we hear the same old claptrap from cas fans as hudds in 2013, and to a lesser extent Warrington in 2011.

No doubt we will in the future from the likes of Salford etc.

Never ever bought into this G.F Winners are best team $#!T€, 1st over a full season are rightfully CHAMPIONS in my view & about time that RL returned to rewarding it as such with the best tropy & financial rewards.

It's been GF winners champions for 20 years and will likely be that way for another 20 years and beyond so you need to come to terms with reality.

That said, well done Cas the most deserving LLS winners since Warrington in 2011 imo.

The traditional method of crowning Champions in RL is via a playoff. This isn't football.

The SL Champions have to firstly get into the playoffs and then win the GF at Old Trafford. They're the rules that are laid down before the first game of the season kicks off. because of this reason, some sides will target the GF, an not be too bothered about finishing top, but making sure they finish in the playoffs and peak at the right time (Leeds for example).

It's certainly an achievement to come top and Cas have been the best & most consistent team this year, but a Champion RL side keeps themselves in the fight, peak when it matters, and they win the big, high pressured games. That's the way it's been for 20 years (& the vast proportion of seasons prior to that), and just because people feel Cas deserve it so far, we can't retrospectively apply more kudos to the LLS.

Quite frankly, I don't give a flying frig what any opposition fans think.

It ranks of bitterness. I'm immensely proud of what my side have achieved this season, it's more than most expected, and we've done it a convincing, satisfying and comprehensive style. I'd love to go on and win the Grand Final just to ram it down people's throats but in reality, even if we go on to win absolute naff all after this, I'll still be proud of it.

It means a lot to us fans when we nearly lost our club and I'm pretty sure fans of Salford, Wakefield would also revel in winning the League Leaders' Shield too and finishing top of the pile. When you've seen the dark days, you enjoy the glory days even more.

Over the years we've been treated as little Cas, always treated with contempt and as a 'team we should be beating'. Not anymore. It's about time we got some payback and I'm glad we have. Fans of the big clubs don't like other clubs roughing up the norm now and that for me is the most satisfying part.

When fans of clubs like Hull, Wigan and Leeds have seen your club get relegated, really, really struggle and fear for the future - when you've walked through the days of admin like fans of smaller clubs - only then come back and tell us why we shouldn't be euphoric about what our teams have achieved.

No one remembers the LLS. Well I remember Huddersfield won it, clearly other people do, I'm sure our fans will remember it. It means more to us and we're going to celebrate this achievement.

Ok Il bite. What did happen in 1999? From a FC fan pov? Never went down and no real change to the average punter.Im seeing fc merchandise with 150 years proudly displayed. The real irony of it is the then Rovers chairman vetoed Fcs application to the then Northern Ford thinking that was the death of them until Richardson/Mccrae last minute franchise fiasco.Thats a whole other story.
