How did you get to that conclusion from what appears to be a very sincere grievance about the nature of the thread conversation?

It struck me as precisely the kind of blustering, faux-outrage that typifies exactly what I was trying to describe - the habit that some people have developed of being offended on other peoples behalf.

So we shouldn't argue against people who like to put others down on commodify people on accounts of their gender.

Precisely my point - no decent person would condone or apologise for the things you've described, neither of which have happened in this thread; hence my suggestion that the habit of simpering, guardian-reading, local authority employees who become outrageously offended on other peoples behalf, regardless of whether that person is offended or not, is not especially helpful.

Maybe because it gives half the posters the opportunity to observe what a good appointment this is, and that she is a highly capable presenter; and the other half, another opportunity to make fools of themselves?

I'm sure Tanya is quite used to shrugging off comments about her voice, and the inevitable innuendos that follow; in the same way she probably does not get very excited either about folk observing they find her attractive, and the inevitable innuendos that in some cases seem to follow THAT? My guess is she would be more concerned if folk were saying she was not capable at her job, and was picked for some other reason. So, if she was minded to read this thread, I suspect she'd be pleased that her appointment on professional grounds has been widely applauded?

Much prefer her to Angela 'danger' Powers, on a more serious note.

It could be argued that the more 'sexist attitude' is the damning / abuse of any comments about her looks / ability / appearance when this is a RL forum absolutely full of that stuff on nearly every thread regarding players / staff and officials

I think I get the point you're trying to make though. 'Cheap-shot' humour abounds on most message boards. Some of it can be quite amusing but most of it is... well...cheap.

there seems to be a definite sense of humour implosion on this thread. we (most of us anyway) are fully functioning adults and dont need The Thought/Humour or indeed blanket, knee jerk offence police to tell us what is and is not offensive in general terms.
granted, repeated quips about her voice have all been done to death long before this thread came along, and if thats all certain people have to say then they should be frowned upon. However, the response generally has been positive, indeed extremely positive with regards her appointment. Yes, i have branded her a 'MILF' but also commented on her professionalism. I happen to think she is attractive in her own way, some may disagree with the use of 'Milf' but i fail to see how in any way it is derogatory in any real sense. And no amount of philosophising on the nature of offence, or trying to make some academic, conceptual leap to racism will change that.

Saying she is good or bad at her job is just opinion.
Saying she is a Milf is not bad particularly, but I doubt anyone would like someone to suggest you were actually more like the opposite sex than you say you are.
