| Quote ="Coventry Bears"icon_lol.gif What the hell has it got to do with the fact that he plays for Wigan? Doesn't always have to be about Wigan, now matter how much you would like it to be. Fact is, he has been the best player in Super League this year. 2nd top try scorer, 1st in try assists, 1st in clean breaks, 1st in tackle busts, its impressive stuff.
I'd agree Roby has been consistently good over the past 3 or 4 seasons, but I reckon this season may have possible been his worse, but still far better than any other hooker in Super League.'"
Do you think Tomkins would have looked as good this year if he was playing for London?
Wigan generally have most of the ball when they play and there pack is always on the front foot giving Tomkins the opportunity to do what he does best more often than any other player in SL.
Tomkins couldnt be close to MoS if he played for London or Widnes because the opposition would generally have most of the ball and he would be playing for a team with a pack thats going backwards. He would be defending most of the time and do what he does worst catching high kicks and not have the opportunity to shine as much as he does know!!
Brent Webb would have looked good in the Wigan team this year!!

| Pints of bitter all round here, laughable thread. Every fan would love to have Sam playing for their team, and anybody who denies this is just making themselves look silly. He is far and away, currently, the best player in the league!!!
Credit to those mentioning Potter and Menzies...... Oh, I hear that Sinfield is in for some sort of refereeing award

No he isn't but he'll be picking up a medal at Wembley in 2 weeks time thanks to Ratboy Tomkins who gifted us the first 16 points in the semi final. Tomkins is a flat track bully who has failed miserably in his last few big games against decent teams. He was like a turnstile against St Helens in the 2 playoff games last september and capped that by dropping anything and everything against Australia in the Four Nations Final. He hasn't fared much better this season when it really matters and was the weak link against Leeds in the semi. Did nowt today and is well overrated despite all the hype. We'll let you polish the hubcap and just laugh at you when the big trophies and medals are shared by other bigger teams.

You cant play well if your forwards or backs forgot how to pass, tackle, keep hold of the ball.

What award would that be? or is it just a lazy jibe at an opposition player.
As for Man of Steel. i would go with tomkins he is brilliant.
Though i would like to see two awards one for a forward and one for a back.

Luckily the losing team gets medals also, because from the sounds of your post you seem to imply that Leeds have the cup final in the bag already.
Obviously that would be a ridiculously daft thing to say.

Ben Westwood is one of my favourite forwards in the game. The man is just a machine. I would love to have him at us. As I would Sam Tomkins, who is the best player in Super League, and the best English player we've got.

i wouldn't be able to name a single player that would enjoy going up against westwood the way he tackles and the strength he runs the ball in at. he is just the ultimate forward

agreed the only difference i would bring up is that under smith westwood has learned to control his agression you dont get as many penalties from him any more, hock needs to reign it in sometimes as can still have brainfarts and go nuts

Both great players (minus the penalties count above). Love watching the passion and controlled agression from Hock, and the strength / machine like qualities of Westwood. Could do with some of that at Widnes!

Westwood penalties are tactical errors, generally hanging on too long, going to high when trying a ball and all tackle, its his role. Hock's are aggressive overreactions, bloke needs to reign himself in, but I love to watch him, he's very talented.

| Westwood is a true [iMan of Steel[/i. After watching him chew up the yards against 1st and 3rd placed teams (which happen to be my team and our derby rivals) and lead the way to dominate up front, I recon he'd be very deserving of such an award.
I don't see him every week, but i don't think consistancy is a problem for him.

seems a fair assessment
TBF Hill has had a superb season as well so far with Westwood very consistent (it hurts me to admit the truth !) but I can't figure out how BW didn't get MOM against W***n, it must have been one of his best games for the Wires ?

No consistency isn't a problem, his only problem seems to be being in the most unfashionable position on the field.
Westwood usually has about 3 bad games a season, easily the most consistent performer of the last few years at Wire.
