What about Ben Westwood then? If memory serves me right, 3 of the tries came of the back of 3 of his penalties! Very poor performance from BW whilst RC will take the stick for the intercept and for the attempted 40/20 I personally thought BW was poor.

I am not Chases biggest fan but he did better than I thought today. I honestly thought he would really get shown up badly today.

I agree with Saddened, once again Sinfield has shown that he is not good enough for this level (apart from when he played at hooker, where he was actually pretty reasonable). It is hard to understand why he keeps on getting second chances.

Chase isn't good enough at International level.

The 2 on 1 steal if you look the Aussie let go of the ball when Chase covered it to stop an offload
The offload that was intercepted was just a desperation play with time running out for England to get back in it (and the England player he tried passing it to was just stood there not paying attention - something which happened numerous times throughout the game, in fact Sinfield did it twice)

I thought Chase was decent today however I thought sinfield had a poor game. The ref caused a lot of problems for us today and had he had a decent game it would have been a much closer affair.

Ben Westwood made 39 tackles today, way more than anyone else. Anyone making that many is bound to give a couple of penalties away.

Sadly the first time iv'e ever felt the need to talk about the ref in 30+ years of watching and playing the game.

Your being polite,the ref cheated.the three or four decision he got wrong against England wer outrageous.they wer massive game changing moments.totally unexeptable and on a par with whats gone on in cricket.

Sinfield doesn't offer anything like enough threat at halfback. It's a complete waste of one of three attacking positions. We've got Tomkins right in one, and I thought Chase showed in the first 20 minutes that he was a genuine threat, but Sinfield needs to go back into the forwards if he plays at all, where his lack of pace is less exposed, and Widdop or Maguire at 6.

It didn't come off though, did it and the Ozzies scored from the next set. It was a very risky play in a massive game and if you're going to take those risks you need to have the skills to back it up. Chase doesn't.

Well seems he did it on a regular basis for Cas, he does have the skills to do it - and is it his fault Wilkin watched as Heighington got put on his backside with minimal effort? Terrible defending by England in that set.

Not going to argue with the defending, as someone mentioned on another thread, Heighington isn't producing anything that young ENGLISH back-rower couldn't do.

Chase looked good in attack, but he made 3 mistakes that were all avoidable. The 20m kick, as you said if it had have come off would have been a hero, but it wasn't anywhere near the the touchline and completely the wrong time to do it.

Sinfield din't do bad i thought.

The ref is a touchie in NRL and refs in third tier over there NSW cup. England wanted him after last week can't start moaning now!!

Rangi made mistakes....unfortunately for him it led to Australian tries, but i wouldn't say he was the worst player on the field.

Bottom line is we can try different half back combinations but they won't be as good as Lockyer & Thurston, who nobody in an England shirt closed down all game

I thought Sinfield was really poor today. Really don't understand how he is our number 6, when he hasn't played there all season! The only time he's impressed for England, was when he was sub hooker in 2009, so put him there next week and that should be his final chance. Wilkin needs to go too, nowhere near good enough.

Apart from widdup for Sinfield (who had a good game but was clearly to slow for the next stages of the comp) Why would you change what we had tonight.

i thought chase had a good game, at leat you thought something was going to happen when he had the ball. Sinfield he organises the leeds side around the park, he always has whether from loose forward or 6, however he doesn't seem to be able to do it at the international stage.

Westwood was a penalty machine yeterday, i would use him from the bench as i think he would be a good impact player at international level. hopefully carvell can come in for wilkin as we need another prop and the other 16 players are carrying wilikn.

Sionfield would be a liability in the forwards against the Aussie or Kiwi pack, who would you drop Heighington, westwood or Eliis all 3 of them are tackling machines.

You cannot drop Sinfield either as with no Sinfield there is no Kicking game. Neither Reed or McGuire can overcome that deficiency.

Yet again the England coach and selectors get it wrong and that is why we are in the crap.

Chase 7, Widdop 6 has to be the combination for England for the next 5+ years! Sinfield was poor today, bombed a try and generally slow in his thinking and his passing. He is not close to being a Int class no6, never has been, never will be.
