| Very sad, didn't like him when he played against us. But it took my breath away when I heard it on the radio. Condolences to his partner and 2 young girls.

| Terry being forced to leave Wakefield was the start of a terrible year at the club. Up until that point all I ever heard were fantastic reports of his impeccable behaviour and his positivity in the dressing room. He seemed to have truly found his enthusiasm for the game once more and was 'well up for it'.
I have no doubt that my club would have been a very different place this season if Terry had still been there, but that seems insignificant compared to how different his own life would have been if things had not gone as they did.
Very much saddened by this and very much thinking of those he has left behind.
RIP Terry!

One can't imagine what he was going through, RIP Terry, peace be with you, and with your family.

| As a player, he was a man I loved to hate. Another was Shaun Edwards. If a player makes you feel something like that its because they had the ability to hurt your team, Terry Newton had that.
Id have loved to play in the same team as him.
One of the enduring images of the Super League era is his tears at a Grand Final loss. He crossed the line yes, but he wanted to win so much - and there is nothing wrong in that.
Those in our game will remember your talent Terry, not the other stuff. Your truly one of us.
God bless, hope you have some peace now. You wont be forgotten x

As a Wigan fan I loved him - similar to how Saints fans loved Longy, Warrington fans love Lee Briers, Rhinos fans with Bailey etc. To the opposition fans, Terry was a man everyone loved to hate, but for the fans of which ever club he played for they adored him.
His sheer determination, his willingness to stand up and be counted, his fearless attitude and win at all costs ethos - very much similar to Lombardiasm.
As a young player who was new to RL I looked upto the likes of Terry Newton, Terry O'Connor and Andy Farrell. I adored them and I wanted to play like them everytime I turned out for my team.
RIP Terry. Sit yourself down with the Big Guy upstairs, we'll remember you for who and what you were - a Warrior in every sense of the word.

| Only just found out.
I echo the thoughts of every right minded person on here. Couldn't stand him whe he was playing against us, loved him when he was playing for GB. He was a good, good player.
Sad, sad loss, far too young to go.

Jimmy Lowes had just ended his career with a trademark try from dummy half, and as Terry was shown crying on the big screen I turned to the wife and said "that's who we need to repalce Jimmy". I was so pleased when he did.
He was a hero to me, RIP Terry.

| Terrible, Terrible news was gutted when i heard, and even more upset when i seen Carney's reaction.
Sometimes i would hate him as a player for some of his antics, but then he would put me back in my place by doing something magical, and i have never seen a player show such emotion and enthusiasm for the game, when Wigan lost seeing newton cry was one of the most moving scenes i have ever seen on a sports field.
Gutted for him, Gutted for his family but feel so sorry for his parents lost both a daughter and son what a tragedy.
I hope they have a minute silence/applause in the grand final, i for one want to show my respect for a true legend of rugby league.
R.I.P Terry Newton

| What more can be said other than what is already on here?
Growing up I always wanted to be a player that everyone wanted in their team but never to play against (unfortunately I got them mixed up and nobody wanted to play alongside me!!!!). His determination to win often got the better of him but that is the sort of character that made him the player he was, with out that he would have been just another up the middle hooker. Every team needs a Terry Newton, at HKR we have Ben Cockayne, at Hull Lauaki, Leeds have Bailey...etc how boring would our sport be if it was filled with players that have no character?
Sometimes the word "drugs" is seen as such a dirty word and he admitted to being a "cheat" himself, but what we need to remember is he wasn't doing heroin or other serious illegal drugs. The growth hormone he was using is not illegal other than a banned substance in sport and many players apparently use it because it is so hard to detect. Yes he cheated in his later years and his honest assessment of it (that his body needed the extra help to cope with the demands of the sport) really puts into perspective just how hard it is for players to play the game at such a high level for so long.
More to the point though I guess his personal problems off the pitch lead to this incident and to feel so low in himself to do this just makes you thankful that you dont have the worries he must have had.
Condolances to his family, friends and all that knew him personally.
R.I.P Terry.
