Confusing him with Silverwood is worse than anything McManus has thrown his way...

| Well this scandal of a chairman writing in a programme has made zero headlines on the bbc.
I don't mind other fans taking issue with it, we'd do the same for the Wigan chairman. But sky saying it undermined referees after their week in week out undermining for 20 years was too much hypocrisy

With Mr Hicks being in the legal profession I would think finance isn't an issue. If it is,I am certain that rugby league followers,at least in Britain, will add to one of those Go Fund Me collections.
Many followers of the sport enjoyed the game and the manner in which it was played and won.
The aftermath has been disgraceful and has taken the lustre from even the thought of enjoying any further games, this season.
With Elstone taking staff from the RFL,and only managing to pinch ideas from Australia, and chase away television coverage from Catalans Dragons,I am surprised by his absence from any meaningful statement. The broadcast companies may also be watching with interest;other than Sky.

Give over.
Sky haven’t once inferred the ref was bent. Your clubs chairman has though. That’s the problem.

That’s because it’s not a response to McManus questions. If he has questions he can put them to the RFL directly. The statement is one regarding the rules in the same way as when a coach makes comments about the ref in the media the RFL doesn't answer them in the media, they investigate if rules have been broken.
It’s really not that difficult to understand unless you’re deliberately trying to.

I actually thought the statement went too far. There was no need for the RFL to “defend” themselves, Warrington, Hicks or themselves. A simple “The RFL are aware of comments made by Eamon McManus and have referred this matter to the RFL Compliance Team” would have sufficed and been more in keeping with the game’s governing body.

What an absolutely despicable piece! The man should be ashamed of himself.
Never mind the decision to send the decision up to the VR, what he’s said there should see him fined heavily.
And onto the decision:
Show me one camera shot that shows evidence Knowles definitely grounded the ball that would have definitely overturned the ref’s decision... because he would have sent it up as No Try and the camera angle the BBC showed only showed like it looked like he might have grounded it, it did not show that he irrefutably grounded it... so it would have remained No Try unless there is another camera angle other than the one that was zoomed in from 100m away on the wrong side of the ball.'"
Agreed
At best he brushed the side of his hand on the ball, no contolled downward pressure. If the video ref gave that, hen Warrington would have felt hard done to, and we would all be on here saying how did the video ref give that.
The linham try was wronging disallowed, this is childish behaviour and Mcmanus cannot except his side bottled it and we're well beaton.

Give over it was a clear try.

He also says saints have to learn lessons to win finals and we were not at our usual standard. (I. E. Bottled it).

Not to mention Saints try was allowed despite obstruction on a Wire defender.
Saints should be rightly annoyed about the early decision. It’s clear to everyone it should have gone to the video ref. They’re right to ask questions about that and they deserve answers. It’s a massive cocky pin a massive game.
However Saints have created this myth amongst themselves that they were harshly done to for the rest of the game. They weren’t. Their biggest issue by far was not the referee but their own inability to play high quality conservative sets consistently through the game to grind Warrington down. They wanted to score straight away and weren’t earning the right to do that.
Ironically they played in a similar manner to that which Leeds did against them the previous week.
Warrington played playoff style rugby. Saints didn’t and suffered for it.

No it wasn't in real time it looked a clear no try, nobody except knowles disagreed with it, if they had not shown in 2-3 minutes later on the big screen and Tv replay, nobody would have batted an eyelid, no clear evidence that he got a controlled downward pressure in the ball. Like I said be brushed it with the side of his hand cannot give that as a try. No way would the video ref over turned the onfield decision, the only debate here is should the ref referred it to the video ref, probably, but the onfield decision would still stand.
Probably 80-90% of people commenting on the subject think it was no try

| Forget all the distracting Saints packaging of the Knowles no try incident.
The pertinent point is that Hicks, the match referee , was a whopping 2 yards from the incident, with a direct line of sight and in perfect position.
Therefore with Hicks being the perfect eye-witness, if he was clear in his own mind it was no try, then why would he want to send it upstairs.
Sort of defeats the object.
Now in view of the embarrassing mess St. Helens are digging deeper into, I think it’s about time Morgan Knowles stood up like a man and admitted he didn’t get a lawful try, as Hicks indicated.
Step up Morgan

Whichever way you wish to try and spin this, he calls into question the impartiality of the ref.
The rest of anyone else's flannel/spin doesn't change that and as a Chairman of one of the top SL clubs, he should not beg doing this.
Simple really
The main point regarding impartiality will come from the lack of action from the RFL when one of the big clubs crosses the line.
They need to grow a pair and deal with it and perhaps a little stronger than they dealt with Catalan/Warrington following the recent crowd trouble.

Step up Morgan'" the sooner we revert back to the rules in which when the ball is place on the ground by the hand in control not including little pinkie tries sooner the better,
the rules have been distorted now for years and we have lost control of the game through slow mo pictures

| More from McManus,
[urlhttps://www.saintsrlfc.com/2019/09/01/statement-chairman-strongly-reiterates-view-on-wembley-referee-selection/?utm_source=pushnotification[/url
St.Helens R.F.C. Chairman, Eamonn McManus, has reaffirmed his view on the RFL’s selection of Robert Hicks as the match referee for the Coral Challenge Cup Final as being unwise and inappropriate given the worrisome background events that occurred.
Following the RFL’s statement that they will be referring the Saints’ Chairman’s matchday programme comments to their Compliance Team, McManus has released the following statement:
“My matchday programme notes seem to have created a lot of heat and light, which is probably a good thing as the core issue at hand could not be more serious for our game.
“Firstly I reiterate my expressed congratulations to Warrington Wolves who were worthy winners of the Challenge Cup.
“I was very clearly making the point that Robert Hicks had been placed in an invidious position due to recent death threats from a Warrington fan and his subsequent close dealings with that fan and the Warrington Club in the period leading up to the Challenge Cup Final. He also appeared voluntarily on an ITV interview shortly before the game to explain this experience in some detail to express how upset he and his family had been by this.
“It is impossible to assess to what extent he had been emotionally affected by this during his high profile dealings with Warrington and their fan. For that reason he should not have been appointed in such a high pressure and demanding and game in which Warrington were a participating club. Perceptions of even handedness and impartiality are as important as reality. This can be no more so than in the instance of refereeing where integrity and the perception of integrity is paramount. No other professional sport would have made such an appointment given these prior disturbing events and facts.
“It was therefore inevitable that his decisions would be under heightened scrutiny from both sets of fans and that any incorrect decisions would be questioned at accentuated levels, particularly if any were inexplicable. This unfortunate and predictable scenario did indeed eventuate, and to the benefit of no one. It was entirely avoidable and should indeed have been avoided.
“I am certainly not causing anger by legitimately expressing my firmly held views, which are based on fact, common sense and good practice. I am merely reflecting very widely held views. I can only hope that some very obvious lessons are learnt from this by the RFL. We will continue our discussions with them on this and other related matters, at all the appropriate levels.
“I also look forward to hearing from the RFL’s Compliance team to which it seems I have been referred, although I have not been informed why and for what.”
McManus and the club will be making no further comment on this matter at this time.

| The only people questioning Hicks’ appointment is McManus.
No neutral person has expressed any concern. Either before or since.
Crucially If saints had won I doubt neither would McManus be questioning it.

| There’s a thread on TRL with a mention of Walmsley paying the ball incorrectly prior to the no-try call.
Watching the match back you can see he doesn’t get up before he plays it so should have been a Warrington penalty.
Whats McManus’ views on that one I wonder? Conveniently ignored?

| So he’s continuing to accuse Hicks of cheating because he made “inexplicable” decisions that favoured Warrington. His claim is that because Hicks received a death threat from a Warrington supporter, he made incorrect decisions in their favour.
He’s getting himself in deeper water. Clubs cannot accuse officials of cheating. He can say he thought Hicks’ contact with Warrington was inappropriate I think, but not that it resulted in the the referee cheating.
The man seems to have completely lost the plot. I have seen nobody but him question the impartiality of the referee.

| Clearly McManus knew that Hicks' appointment was a terrible one and I'm sure he voiced such a strong opinion before the CC Final.
I presume he released a statement before the final. Can anyone find one? Anyone? No?
