| Thats a bad un.
Its up there with Barrie Mac on Paul Sironin or Cassidy on Morley. Not quite Hopoati mind, that was sickening
His arm was raised so high it would be hard to defend that as poor technique. His little gloat after the contact was made was a bit rude also.
6 matches i would have thought.

| 'Rangi Chase breaks Tangi Ropati's jaw ' on the tube of you.
Ban almost certain, I would say. Terrible shot.

| Coming off the back of a 5 minute period where they couldn't score and his kick just went to Andy Kain.
Next tackle Ropati's off with a broken face.
8 matches minimum for me, but taking into account his history, England player of course, slap on the wrist.
Should never ever be allowed to play for England again, he's not got the right mentality to take England to the next level.

| Quote ="Him"Having watched it again, I'd agree with you. Although I'd say 3-4 games rather than 2-3 since it's not the first time he's misjudged a "big hit". I don't think he intentionally hit him high, but if he's going to go in to tackles like that he has to be a lot more careful.'"
Well, I have posted elsewhere about 3 matches, A hefty fine and a severe warning about his technique, Lets face it. If he got done again, He would be in for a 6-8 game ban after the warning.
I dont think he tried attacking the head with the Elbow/Forearm, Which is different to the Terry Newton incidents. I think he goes for a massive shot to lift his team, And BADLY misjudges it.
I wouldn't defend it, I dont think the initial contact was the elbow, And i wont argue a ban, But these saying months bans are pathetic. 3 or 4 games, And he will have to take it on the chin. May do him good.

| More you watch it the worse it looks. He only received a caution from the disaplinary about three weeks ago for striking as well. Should be a lengthy ban, especially when you take into account the severity of the injury caused.

Pause it at 11 seconds and you'll see first contact is Chase's shoulder, but it's still high.
So if he gets a ban it will be the same as what Moa got for the same challenge.

Your view on the challenge by a Wkefield player on Friday night that left Rob Burrow with a suspectyed fractured cheekbone?
Did you post your disgust about that or is it just reserved for alleged fouls from Cas players?

Why?, when it's been confirmed as an accidental clash of heads with Kirmond

You really do need to watch both incidents again, there's no comparison with the Moa/Rinaldi incident

They were both sloppy going for a shoulder charge and hit someone in the head.
The only difference is one was a red card, the other the ref and touch judge deemed fair...so the problem here is the consistency of officials.

| Unless you are watching a different tackle you must be blind. There is no shoulder charge because his arm is lifted so far away from his body.
A shoulder charge leads with the shoulder.
This is a lead with the forearm / elbow. I think it is the elbow that connects.
However without the bemefit of slow mo frame by frame it is difficult to tell.

| Just watched it again on youtube. What a cowardly assault. Anyone excusing that as 'mistimed' or 'reckless' need their eyes testing. It was assault.

There's a video on the Cas board of it on slow mo, pause it at 11 seconds the contact is with his shoulder.
The problem is, Chase has a horrible technique for shoulder charging which involves limbs all over the place so at full speed (and knowing what happens as a result) it looks horrible.
However, one thing people haven't mentioned - early guilty plea if he gets charged, so 1 game.

The fact first contact with the shoulder gives a big clue to say it wasn't intentional...if he wanted to take his head off he would have clotheslined him wouldn't you think?
EDIT:
Watched it again, contact is with his bicep, and with the angle both players are on (Ropati is side stepping and slightly lowered)...purely mistimed.

| Early guilty plea only counts if the player has a clean record in the last 12 months. Chase hasn't.

| It looked like a deliberate head shot to me, as has already been said, the ban received should reflect the length of time the injured player is out for, if Ropati is going to be out for 8 weeks, so should Chase.

| Chase had obviously lost his head and went in with the intention of hurting the ball carrier. I think it was a rush of blood and obviously I doubt his intentions were to be that serious. Although Chase does have past form for losing his head and putting cheap shots in. I think the RFL gradings prevent big bans. I wouldn't have him playing for England till he grows up.

Ands it also gets you the lower end of the sanction range, and is only useable on a grade A-C charge.
Intentional strike with elbow while tackling is D-F, which caries minimum of 3-5 (Grade D) to 8+ or period suspesion (Grade F)
[urlhttp://www.therfl.co.uk/~rflmedia/docs/On%20Field%20Compliance%20Sentencing%20Guidelines%202012%20-%20Final.pdf[/url
Section 2.3.4 also refers to injury to the fouled player as being as agrivating factor in the decision.

So what would an unintentional strike with a bicep be?
Seems if you watch the slow mo replay, you would see Chase's elbow never actually makes contact with Ropati, it's just his daft technique makes it look that way at full speed.

Just watched it, several times, and saw it (and repl;ayed it yesterday) several times. How anyone can defend that as being an accidental shoulder/bicep, is quite frankly laughable.

It's amazing what knowing the outcome does to peoples judgement, isn't it?
Like I've said numerous times now, pause it at 11 seconds and you'll see his elbow isn't what hits Ropati.
