You edited my post when you quoted me. You rightly said that analogies with football were innapropriate and I highlighted a previous post which did just that. Where's the problem?
I really feel the RFL shot themsleves in the foot by announcing that one Super League team would definitely lose their licence while a Championship would definitely get one. It was unecessary and has put them in the spotlight, drawing inevitable criticism from all quarters. The licences should go to the best fourteen clubs regardless of which division they are currently in.
[url=http://tonyhannan.wordpress.com/2010/11/23/fair-play-to-the-rfl/Tony Hannan's view[/url
For my own part, I would like to see some sort of all-inclusive early season competition structure from which clubs would win a place (or not) in the main ten-team Super League season proper, which would then play through to a four or five team play-off series and Old Trafford Grand Final. Those who didn’t make it this year (ah well, there’s always next season) would compete in an expanded, televised and – given the profile of some of the clubs taking part – more glamorous Super League 2, Premiership, Championship…. call it what you will. Will this happen? I doubt it – but it would kill pretty much every bird with one stone. The lower clubs would no longer have anything to moan about and could be rewarded for their efforts. We would have the greater intensity of top-level playing competition that we need and maybe even space for a mid-season tour down under. Now there’s a thought.

| Quote ="littlerich" He's just pointing out that Widnes don't have a big fan base. It's bigger than anyone elses in The Championship though and bigger than other SL clubs would '"
But no-one has claimed that we have a fanbase as big as the likes of Wigan or Leeds. Our current fan base and known SL fan base is very positive, and should be looked on optimistically. As you said yourself, we now have a man in charge that will pull out all the stops to ensure it grows. This should make us one of the best supported clubs in SL and help it become stable and possibly even profitable. This is what SL needs. Some SL clubs struggle to get much more than we do in the Championship and quite often our individual attendance figures exceed them.
Quote ="littlerich" have if they suffered the fate of being down here (save for Cas and Hkr who had a great following down here)'"
Cas did, but Cas have never spent the amount of time we have in the lower leagues. Hull KR didn’t, until their very successful promotion year. Before that they we averaging around 2,000. That just goes to show how a club can grow in Super League and just how pointless it is to make a big issue out of how many fans come through the gates in the Championship.

Quite simply they will only watch either top tier RL or watch when there is something to actually play for , like promotion decided by on field performance , you are now actually starting to annoy everybody including myself , I thought at first you were actually interested , now I am begining to think you are either an idiot or a wind up merchant , or both

The same place they came from the last time we were promoted. We were getting crowds in the NFP similar to what we get now in the championship. SL will bring the lost fans back and then SOC will get to work and we can bring in even more from within our own borough and further South in Cheshire and West in South Liverpool.
You know - expansion!

I'd go for both. Although, if I was pushed to pick just one option, I'd have to say idiot.

My apologies - call it flat-cap paranoia.
I thought you were presenting the two posts you quoted as if they contradicted each other (which they did) and as if that was somehow weird or funny since both of the posters were Widnes fans.

Eh! there's nowt wrong wi a beltin cheesecutter
Like I earlier said, I think Super League will be a much better place with a strong and vibrant Widnes club in it.
One question though. If you do get in, will [isome[/i Widnes fans still call it Sooper Dooper League?

Alarm bells rang when he repeated the 2000ish claim not once but multiple times after being corrected.

There’s no real structure to this suggestion or any explination of how it would be organised.
Quote =" Tony Hannan" I would like to see some sort of all-inclusive early season competition structure from which clubs would win a place (or not) in the main ten-team Super League season proper, '"
Wouldn’t it be better to do this at the end of the season, thus give the promoted side a chance to build a squad for Super league? Why at the beginning of the season?
How can it be fair for a lower league club, with a team made up of part-time players and a much lower salary cap, to compete with a full-time SL club and the financial might it will have behind it? Is he suggesting that SL1 & SL2 should operate at the same level of TV money and salary cap?
Quote =" Tony Hannan" Will this happen? I doubt it '"
You don’t say, Tony?

| Excellent news, only the most hardcore of the Peoples Protectionist Flatcappers Front could see this as a bad thing. The club showed real promise last year in every way and with Wales making the 4 nations next year a Welsh SL presence is vital.

I’m not knocking the idea but, in order to decide whether it can actually work, we need a bit more flesh on the bones. As it stands, it seems pretty meaningless.

probably a bit of both if the truth be known but thanks for giving some kind of explanation.I'm not criticising, belittling or mocking any contributors it's just that it doesn't matter to me personally if my team is top or bottom of whichever league,I will always support them so I find it difficult to accept the fickleness of sports fans - it's the same at TO - they will have their hardcore 1.5K supporters win or lose which would double if they were top of the league. The club chairman believes when they eventually hit the SL they will guarantee crowds of between 5K - 10K ! It sounds twaddle to me but who knows ?

Interesting that there is talk in that piece of potential interest from 'a South Wales-based consortium'. Hopefully not including Leighton Samuel!

The ' real ' story will probably never come out , was he really as bad as he has been portraid , or was he , how shall we say ' misled '
One thing is probably for certain doing something as an act of ' revenge ' against an organisation that upset you isn't a good enough reason to be allowed,to run a RL club , if in the future we ' expand ' again lets hope its done better

Setting them up was one thing and in fairness looked like a great project but as soon as he made noises about leaving if no SL (3 years in) they should of smelt a rat!
