Jesus I came up with something a lot like that once...
I'm pretty sure mine opened with Great Britain All Stars vs Super League All Stars to mimick the Aussies now.
I'm really hoping this sort of thing is the direction we take. Although I disagree on some points the whole looks promising

Simple fixture list, teams play each other home and away. 3 points for a win, 2 points for an over time win, 1 point for an over time loss. Over time is 10 minutes each way, penalties and drop goals only count after full 20 minutes, a try wins the game outright.
Top 8 go into play offs, which will be in the same system as currently, without the choice nonsense. Lowest 2 losers go into the shield competition.
Bottom 6 go into shield competition to be joined by week 1 losers. System as follows:
[uPlay offs[/u
Week 1
a) 1st v 4th
b) 2nd v 3rd
c) 5th v 8th (loser into shield)
d) 6th v 7th (loser into shield)
Week 2
e) Loser a v Winner d (loser eliminated)
f) Loser b v Winner c (loser eliminated)
Week 3
Winner a v Winner f (Winner to GF)
Winner b v Winner e (Winner to GF)
[uShield Competition[/u
Pool A
9th
13th
14th
Pool B
10th
11th
12th
Teams play each other once with highest placed team having home advantage. This will be played alongside week 1 and 2 of the play offs. Pools winners advance to semi finals with the system as follows:
Highest place play off losers v Lowest place pool winners
Lowest placed play off losers v Highest placed pools winners
The winners advance to the shield final which will be played at a neutral venue the day after the grand final
[uMagic Weekend[/u
This will be scrapped in it's league format and replaced with Challenge Cup semi final/Nines tournament and will be moved to the first weekend in July, so the semi final is about halfway between the quarters and final. The venue can change annually, with hosts announced 2-3 years in advance.
The cup semi finalists will not have to supply a team into the Nines competition. The remaining SL clubs will and a 16 team competition will be made up of lower league teams (6 teams if all 4 semi teams are from, etc.
Only one quota player will be allowed in a squad, 5 federation players and the remainder homegrown players, of which 3 must be SL squad players. A squad of 20 must be announced for the entire competition.
The format will be along similar lines as the IRB 7's, with everyone involved on day one, group losers go into day 2 shield, winners into day 2 full competition).
Each day will be ended by one of the semi finals of the Challenge Cup
[uWorld Club Championship[/u
This will be played the week after the European grand final in the country of the hosting nation of the upcoming international tour/world cup/4 Nations. Both teams must announce their strongest possible squads.
[uExtras[/u
Super League week 26 fixtures will all kick off at 3pm on the Sunday.
Only matches covered by Sky can be played on a Friday at 8pm or Saturday at 6pm barring the following:
[iGames between clubs in the same region (northwest team v northwest team, etc)
Catalans home fixtures, which are to be played on the Saturday evening[/i
All other games to be played at 3pm on a Sunday
A mid season international will be played against an antipodean XIII (SL based overseas players) on what was previously the cup semi final weekend, with no league fixtures to take place on that weekend. Other Nations have this weekend to play friendlies also.
Once a nation has been represented at full level, a player can not change nationalities, ever
Quota rules as follows:
3 quota players
5 overseas players (including 3 quota)
10 homegrown player minimum.
Remainder to be made up of federation trained
25 player squad announced before week 1 of the season
Homegrown players under 21 do not need to be announced in squad
Only federation and homegrown players can be added to a squad until 31st May.
Only homegrown players can be added after 31st of May
Salary cap rules as follows:
Quota players: No more than £300k
Overseas players (including 3 quotas): No more than £500k
50% of homegrown players wages not to count against the cap
Overall salary cap: £1.4m
and finally....
[uFranchising[/u
All league points will be tallied up over a 3 year period. The team with the lowest amount of points will be replaced by the team with the highest amount of points in the Championship.
The second lowest points scorers over the 3 years will face a post-season play off against teams 2, 3 and 4 from the Championship (SL shield competition will have the newly promoted team replacing the 13th best team, who will contest this play off)
Promoted teams will only be confirmed in SL if they meet minimum franchise criteria (based on facilities, youth and finances). That play off will be as follows:
Only teams who fill the criteria at the time of the play off will be allowed to contest the competition:
1) SL13 v C4 (Winner to progress to final)
2) C2 v C3 (Winner to progress to final)
Final winner to be given SL franchise. If a team does not meet the criteria, their opponents will be given a bye to the final.
Championship and Championship 1 to be made up of 14 teams each.
Championship grand final winners will accrue 5 league points for system outlined above
Championship 1 league points will be cut in half when considering promotion to SL
Championship 1 grand final winners receive 2 additional league points for promotion system detailed above
New clubs will be placed in Championship 1 and will have to make their own way up the league
Northern Rail Cup to be replaced with midweek competition for homegrown players only.
Championship and Championship representation at the Magic Nines comp will be based on the best performers from this competition
Winner of this competition will receive 2 extra points in the franchise league table detailed above.
Under 20's championship winners will receive 2 points for it's franchise league table
Under 18's championship winners will receive 2 points for it's franchise league table
Under 16's championship winners will receive 2 points for it's franchise league table
Long and winded maybe and a tad complicated, possibly some of it won't work, but hey, it hasn't stopped the RFL

| If we're merging clubs or trying to rename teams so they can have bigger fanbases, how about:
Cheshire Cougars - Widnes and Warrington
Cumbria Condors - Workington, Barrow, Whitehaven et al.
Merseyside Meerkats - St. Helens
Greater Manchester Gulls - Wigan, Salford, et al.
Trinity Tigers - Wakefield, Castleford.
Catalans Dragons - Catalans
Toulouse Olympique - Toulouse
Pennine Panthers - Huddersfield, Batley, Halifax.
South Yorkshire Sharks -Sheffield, Doncaster.
Leeds-Bradford Leopards - Leeds, Bradford
East Yorkshire Enigmas - Hull and Hull KR
North Wales - Crusaders
South Wales Scorpions - As is.
London RL - London Skolars, Harlequins.
14 team (and strong) SL. Also, everyone's happy and no one can complain about mergers because they all have.

You have 5 teams out of 14 that are not in the M62 corridor. That's an improvement on three, as it stands. And I included a tasty looking Welsh derby too.

| Super League to be expanded to 16 teams, with the top six playing off; Challenge Cup rounds played closer together and better promoted via the BBC; and the introduction of a pre season cup competition, to get rid of the meaningless friendlies.
1. Wigan. You cannot miss out Wigan.
2. St Helens. Because it's a good derby
3. Warrington
4. Salford, rebranded as 'Manchester Reds'. Look, I know that's not popular amongst Salford fans - "Cos Salford's a CITEH you know, we're not paaaaaar' o' Man-ches-toh", but it's for the good of the game's profile. It's called progress - deal with it. People have heard of Manchester. They've not heard of Salford. Even "Mr Manchester" Anthony H. Wilson was a Salfordian, really, you know.
5. Crusaders. They deserve it for the great strides they have made. They should be relocated back in South Wales OR if they stay in Wrexham...
6. Another team in South Wales. The Welsh are very competitive when it comes to rugby - either code. Two Welsh SL teams battling it out will be like a red rag to a bull for those men. Plus it won't do the Welsh national team any harm.
7. Leeds
8. Bradford
9. Harlequins
10. London Skolars. This team MUST be backed well and fast-tracked. If we're going to get national exposure, we MUST have adequate presence in London, and a local derby. Plus, I spoke to two of the lads than run the team when I watched them lose heavily to Saints reserves in Dublin a few years ago, and they were top lads. I want them to do well. They deserve it.
11. Hull FC
12. Hull KR
13. Cumbria. A difficult one, as whilst Cumbria is undoubtedly a heartland, where they love their RL, it's a motley collection of thinly spread out small towns. So the obvious question is where to site it, and which club to base it on. However, Barrow have recently come good, and that town is fairly populous, so it has to have the best shot. Also, if the proposed new road across Morecambe Bay goes ahead, then Barrow becomes a one hour drive to get to, instead of over two hours, which is a plus for them and us.
14. Castleford. More interesting than Huddersfield, and more passionate than Wakey. Plus, last time I went to Belle Vue, it rained and I got soaked.
15. Catalans
16. Toulouse Olympique. Yes, a second French team. I'm sick of Les Catalans dressing up in blue shirts every so often and calling themselves 'France'. That's not a national side - that's Catalans in a different shirt! The burn, however, is that in Robboworld, Catalans and Toulouse will be kicked out in 3, possibly six years, to spearhead a new professional French Super League, replaced by two teams from...
17. Huddersfield. But only if they can find a way to fill at least a third of their ground, gain a selling point, and be less boring. They are currently Super League's equivalent of Birmingham City, and less interesting than a slice of brown bread. I won't even go to a Wigan game involving Huddersfield because they bore me.
18. Widnes. They'd defo be invited to submit an application, but I would be tempted to decline them, just to p155 them off again. I've never really forgiven Widnes for breaking my heart on many occasions, and I've certainly not forgiven Jim Mills for bellyaching about Widnes missing out on the creation of super league because in his view they were historically one of the best teams. At that precise moment, however, they were horse, and couldn't win the toss, never mind a game.
19. Dublin Storm. I've invented this team, because it would be a magnificent up.

| Seeing as obscenely long posts are becoming commonplace in this thread, I'll throw this into the mix:
[i[uDomestic Season[/u[/i - Approx 32 weeks.
[iAll Star Challenge[/i
Season Opener in the Union Rose Stadium. If no effort is made to create a home stadium for Rugby League, allow the fixture to travel for maximum attendance.
Great Britain All Stars vs Super League All Stars
SL All Stars from all non-GB players in Super League teams.
To ideally be played the same weekend as the NRL All Stars match.
[iRed Rose Super League[/i - Franchise entry. Home and Away matches within League, one match against all WRSL teams.
Wigan Warriors
Warrington Wolves
St. Helens
Cumbria Raiders
North Wales Reds
South Wales Blues
Catalans Dragons
Toulouse Olympique
[iWhite Rose Super League[/i - Franchise entry. Home and Away matches within League, one match against all RRSL teams.
Bradford Bulls
Leeds Rhinos
Hull FC
Hull KR
Huddersfield Giants
Trinity Tigers/Calder Cougars/whatever
Harlequins RL
Stratford Skolors
Total Matches per team in regular rounds of SL: 22. Winners of each league earn respective trophies.
In addition to this lower number, a player restriction of 18 regular SL games would be in place to ensure greater squad utilisation. This would aim not only to increase the amount of SL games young players would be a part of, but could reduce the impact of injuries to teams, and to encourage greater squad rotation to keep players fresh. Banned players will count as if playing on this requirement.
It would also allow for greater absorbtion of losses when the War of the Roses matches are on.
[i Super League Playoff Structure [/i - Similar to now
Week One
1st RRSL vs 2nd WRSL - Winner Week off

Whoever finishes top of the league are crowned Champions, top 6 are entered into play off series for the all new Super Cup with final at old Trafford, and the Challenge cup remains as is. The Rugby League trebble is possible!'"
Or alternatively....

| Simply bring back P&R with the stipulation expansion teams can't get relegated. Its not ideal but clubs would rather have that than no P&R altogether.
I feel sorry for Cas and Wakey fans. How can someone in a suit play God and decide who he wants in Super League and affecting thousands of peoples lives. Bring back P&R, its not perfect, but its the sporting way.

Old fasioned P&R based solely on performance is outdated and bad business and is therefore bad for the game. Especially when one league is fully pro and one is largely semi-pro. Its one thing that puts us ahead of other major sports in this country and will stand us in good health for years to come.
Why is it sporting to reward a club to that channels all of its dosh into the playing squad and punish those that invest in strengthening all aspects of their RL club?

| Quote ="ROBINSON"17. Huddersfield. But only if they can find a way to fill at least a third of their ground, gain a selling point, and be less boring. They are currently Super League's equivalent of Birmingham City, and less interesting than a slice of brown bread. I won't even go to a Wigan game involving Huddersfield because they bore me.'"
Hold on a darned minute! We are much better than Castleford; We have a ground! I don't think it holds any argument that we have this idea about Huddersfield being boring, we're boring because we've recieved little attention (to the extent Sky we're using our old badge for 2 years after we replaced it) and we've had our nearest thing to a rival, Halifax, kicked out of Super League. If your going to keep Cas, keep Wakey as well, or kick them both out.

19. Dublin Storm. I've invented this team, because it would be a magnificent up.'"
Agreed.
