The smell is better because there are toilets instead of a wall to pi$$ against.
I really don't get this rosy-spectacled longing for old and crumbling stadia not fit for human habitation. Are you all masochists or something?

| When did the game and some supporters become so snobby? Fans of certain teams will be wanting heated seats next. I know some grounds are not up to scratch but in all cases the teams are trying their hardest to rectify this. Does not make anyone better than another. A lot of teams in SL are fortunate to be in the situation the are in with stadia built by football clubs, not with much imput from themselves.

Stop being over-dramatic, you tart. Matt has a different opinion to you. Get over it.
Personally, I don't like new stadia. The only 'new' RL stadium I like, is the Galpharm. But that's only because of it's location. My two least favourite stadiums for watching any sport are SFS, DW and The Reebok. If I wanted to watch the game in a comfy seat in a serene environment, I could quite easily stay at home and save £20 plus beer money.

Allianz Arena is world class. Dortmund have a great stadium too. Eastlands and the Emirates are highly regarded too. There are many more. No RL stadium in this country comes close to matching any of these stadiums.

I agree with you (and not just the cas part) any stadium that doesnt offer the opportunity to stand immediatley goes down in my estimation ie hudds has got quite a good ground but i will never enjoying going there as you have to sit (we were made to sit down even though we were on the back row!).
Thankfully cas are planning to have one standing area for the new stadium.

That's what bugs me about fans from those clubs banging on about Wakey, Cas, Saints et al 'breaking promises' over stadia. They probably don't realise that without a football team leading your charge, it's a hell of a lot harder and long-winded process to getting a new stadium built - especially when you're going to own the stadium as these clubs will.
In fact, in SL is there any team other than Warrington who has funded their stadium build?

Without a doubt! It'll be a sad day when grounds such as Wheldon Road and The Willows are gone. I just don't enjoy it as much sat down in an all seater stadium.

I don't find RL boring just because I watch it in a stadium with seats and hygienic toilets. RL is RL, regardless of where it's played or whether you watch it stood up or sat down.

The point is perhaps that they sought private investment for the project, rather than relying on the public purse.
Leeds and Hull KR, IIRC, are the only two that spring to mind who are currently funding their own developments entirely off their own back.

Yes you were and you were doing it by being over-dramatic. I am not sure how relevant Starbug was to the point you made as you were replying to a post by Leyther Matt. By being over-dramatic, you were trying to make Matt's point seem ludicrous.
'Wading through urine'? Where? Old stadiums do not have covered stands? Really? I have evidence to prove otherwise. Have you actually been to an old-fashioned stadium? Do you actually think the DW is better than, say, Central Park? If so, in what way?
The main reasons I prefer old-fashion stadia are because of terracing for those who want to stand and because of character. Character is a big issue to me, and I would say a few others. It's like a house. I would not buy a new build. Some people like yourself, may like the straight walls, plaster board, breeze-blocks and 'boxy' feel. I prefer walls that are not straight, corniches made from lime and plaster (rather than polystyrene ones from B&Q) and high ceilings.

They aren't all covered. At Wakey (sorry to keep using them as an example), they have one covered stand, the block of flats at one end, and the rest is uncovered. There is no way that every fan in the ground could sit or stand in a covered part of the stadium.

| It would appear that the only stadiums permissable by the rabid members of these forums are those paid for ONLY by gate receipts - and in cash. No football clubs, no Councils, no Tesco's and no investment company. It's only "your" ground if it's been paid for by notes and coins through the turnstiles !

Access and infrastructure? Have you been to DW and The Reebok? Can you be clearer what you mean by infrastructure?
TBF Wheldon Road is perfectly accessible once you get to Castleford.

Again, new stadiums have toilets with urine soaked floors and smell, the roofs also leak and access is poor. Also you can quite easily get soaked sitting in a new stadium.
You talk about 'access'. You seem to focus on access for those who are driving cars. Some people want to go to games using public transport. A lot of new stadiums seem to be well out of town with only one access route.
In terms of 'access' (by public transport and car), are there many stadia that are comparable to The Willows? You would be hard-pressed to find many.

Clean, working toilets, a seat where you don't have a huge piece of iron obscuring your view, covered stands, catering outlets and bars that consist of more than one burger van.

I am focusing on access for those who attend games in cars, because that's how I tend to travel. And I generally find it easier to get parked close to new stadia than older ones as they tend to be designed with this in mind a little more than stadia built decades ago. And don't quote Salford as an example - only a fool would leave his car unattended there!

| Its a massive shame that so many RL clubs have moved out of their traditional homes into 'econo-dome' cloned stadia.
I realise that we have to move with the times, but I miss grounds like Hilton Park, Wilderspool and Naughton Park.
With a bit of perseverance and good financial management, a lot of the older grounds could easily have been upgraded to modern 'standards' in reasonable time.
IMO a club loses some of its identity when it moves into one of these boring new concrete cr*phouses.
Like I said though, we've got to move with the times I guess.
