He does seem to court publicity and isn't shy of the camera, but I fail to see how he has gone from student-professor- 600 million? There are an awful lot of empty properties in the middle east...lovely office blocks, shopping malls etc that I am sure have a "book" value, but if they ain't selling, then the book value is meaningless.
He was trumpeted as the owner of a global training company and horse race owner when he arrived, so the property angle seems to have come from nowhere....the global training company has telephone numbers in the UAE and St Helens......
.....sounds familiar
'"
Sorry my bad it was the 2011 times rich list, and before you go googling it, every millionaire doesn't wish to have there personal business posted in public, so it probably won't be on googltube.

| From what I know, and it all comes from followers of the turf, a person cannot have the large number of race horses he owns without the racing authorities checking his or her worth.
When he took over, many of us began to dig to find out where he came from. We found out very little but most reds I have talked to went along with the above argument.
I'd rather have the good doctor in RL than the owner of Cardiff or Hull City.

| Quote ="bewareshadows"I've no reason to doubt he is a very rich man. He seems to make very wise investments.
I know we are looking at the cash he has splashed in terms of players, but do we know how much he bought the club for????
If he got the club cheap because they were on the edge, then in actual effect he has had to spend very little of what ever fortune he has to buy in some players.
Whilst I'm sure he will say what ever is necessary to get Salford press ( any publicity for the club is almost good publicity.) whether he believes what he says is an entire other matter.
You put out the story you want out there. Trying to hook Tomkins and SBW, whilst if he could have got them I'm sure he would have taken them. The simple profile lifting that goes with such a bid is what really benefits Salford.
He needs to keep Salford in the headlines as it's basically free marketing. The press do all the work for nothing. Again his outburst a few days ago about season tickets the press jump on it as he raised the talk about him losing patience and leaving. But then a few days later he is talking about wanting more control over SL as a chairman. Both articles reflect counter points of getting fed up with something and wanting to become more involved.
But the one consistent outcome was headlines and coverage.
He knows he needs to raise the profile of the club to get more people through the doors and whilst no balls are being kicked the easiest way is for him to make a fuss. Whether he means any of it only he will know.
Other clubs higher up the league have already secured a large fan base to help bank roll their clubs, those without that support have to find ways to pull them in. Marketing and a high public profile is one way. It can even attract people just to see what he will do next.
If you look at other teams and say who is the biggest name at each club most clubs would be players or maybe one or two coaches. But the biggest name at Salford is the owner until a player starts to make the headlines for them.
As for season ticket sales they are 3 times ahead of where they where last year, but to get big numbers in people are going to need to see on field improvements, not just some decent names on paper.'"
Well said, sir, well said. It's all about raising the club's profile. The last time Salford warranted multi-page topics on the VT (and 6 pages of hand-wringing and impotent rage on the Warrington forum), the internet was still paper-based. Obviously, it's working.
Despite what some on here would like to believe, we don't overestimate the strength of our squad, and know we're not going to be overnight successes. But if Marwan went to the press and said that, it would hardly get people flocking to the gates would it? "Roll up, roll up! Come and see us build slowly in a quiet, sustainable manner, just like Simon Moran supposedly did!" is hardly going to draw the crowds in.
As for his wealth, it was reported in one of the Aussie newspapers that he was worth some number of millions or billions of Aussie dollars (can't remember), but it was an amount that converted to somewhere in the region of £500 million. I doubt any of us know how true this is, but I guess it's the best estimate we have at the moment.

Didn't I see something online to the effect he was not happy with season ticket sales. How many have been sold as a matter of interest?
Is there a limit to the number of RL clubs / football clubs one person can "own"? He seems to own Salford, has interest in Swinton, wants / wanted to buy Oldham Athletic and the RL club, interested in Leeds United, etc - all according to reports on the internet. Are there more?

Reportedly 2500 season tickets sold so far. Given that the club was a complete basket case last season and is an unknown quantity this season, I'd say that was a pretty fair return, and will almost certainly be the greatest number of season tickets sold for many a year (the club used to keep the figure secret, possibly out of embarrassment). Whether he's genuinely disappointed or just trying to drum up a bit more publicity, we'll never know.
He does seem to be keen to build a sporting empire. The interest in Leeds United is a new one on me, and it seems the Oldham thing was just a passing thought. The Swinton deal looks more likely, and I think he has a meeting with the fans today.

| Marwan Koukash is not the only person capable of generating publicity - Phil Clarke has managed to initiate an 8-page discussion on here with just one preposterous statement. Maybe they're working together.

I’d imagine for some people this would be worse than their neighbours winning the euro millions, you know the one’s they’ve always looked down their noses at.
Long odds on this happening but if it did it would be comedy gold!!

No way near 2500 I'm afraid. Your leader has recently stated Widnes, Bradford and Wakefield have all sold more than Salford. Wakey are currently on about 1900.

He could be not telling the whole truth. Saying x y and z have sold more is a way to mobilze your support to improve their effort to give you the competitive edge.

as I have said, patience isn't this guy's strong point.
He is ME but with 600,000,000,0000,000000,000000,0000 in cash to spend. I am a convert, I love the game, I get frustrated when fans don't flock to games.....I've been at this for nearly 13 years and spent a few grand.......if this guy's got the patience then 2024 is possible!

Yes just over 2500 have been sold, I saw it with my own eyes on the stadium computer when picking up my little boys season ticket, Seems that the recent statement made by Koukash is a ploy to get more fans off their bums and get a season ticket.

Having read your posts it is obvious that you 'get it'.Well done !
If you hadn't been from Leeds and Phil Clarke had not been unlucky with his 'rugby league gods' timing and the player injury,a little chorus,to the tune of 'Knees Up Mother Brown' of 'Phil Clarke's Always Right' may have been suggested for the televised games involving Salford.
No worries.Spontaneity is best.

| The problem lies with the fickle, stick-with-tradition-and support-United, procrastinating Salford public.
It's the years and years of ingrained belief that "if you're from Salford you must follow the football" mentality, despite Salford and surrounds never ever having any kind of serious soccer fraternity. Salford [iis[/i technically an RL city.

| It's been a city since 1926. I would wager a lot that there are very few people alive who distinctly remember its status as only a town. I'd say you would have to be 93 and very alert.
