| It was an ex rugby union man that came up with the idea, so he will not have heard an atmosphere at a union club match. The clubs were even told what music they had to play!

| It was great at the old Odsal. Players walking down the terraces from the old changing rooms through the crowd, stinking of sweat, beer & fags.

| You certainly lose some of the drama when the teams come through the tunnel together.
The old way of having the away team come out first and then home team to rapturous applause & cheering has to be better.
Maybe coming out together is ok for cup finals but, not for the regular season games.

I have a vague recollection at the start of Super League we used to do that, with Stevo calling the players out on to the field individually....

| The current way makes no sense, especially if the game is not televised. The players line up for no reason, at least if it is on TV the camera can pan down the line past all the players from both teams.

About as annoying as when the announcer gives each of them a nickname to go with it. And then the name of the sponsor. The nicknames tend to get dropped when a team starts losing more than winning.

Ooh, saucy!
T' Steam Pigs had at least one season when the players came out individually to their own self chosen music. It took forever and exposed an incredibly terrible taste in music.

I think the nicknames would get better after a run of defeats, 'butterfingers', 'turnstile' and ' for brains' would make a decent front row of nicknames! Bring it back!!
But I agree, bring the teams out one at a time, no music, just the crowd noise. That would intimidate a few, especially at the grounds like Cas where you're right on top of the pitch!

Indeed. It was painful. Only lasted a few games, if I remember rightly. The margin meter of its day.

Interestingly enough, that's the same smell I experienced walking through the Wheldon Road End 2 weeks ago.

| I hate the modern way, it totally ruins the pre match atmosphere and build up etc.
there was nothing better than booing the opposition onto the field and cheering your boys onto it, the atmosphere built up from that. these days most people are just sat down waiting for the game to start by the time all the standing around looking bored and confused is done.
i appreciate it's for the kids etc etc but it's e!

might be a bit gimmicky, but that's exactly the kind of thing that's missing in the modern, sterile, game.

| Perhaps a bit disrespectful but a few years back I remember Trinity playing music to suit the away team when they ran out. eg Salford ran out to the Coronation Street theme.
I'm sure someone could have a bit of fun with that concept.

| Yeh I think the build up to the teams coming out should be more dramatic. I would like 'hungry like the wolf' played at some point for wire games.

| Good topic. Running out one team at a time is a great little earmark for our game and should return. Great during big derby games particularly.

| Can't the players be made to lead more kids onto the field? The current total of 34 adds very little to the spectacle.

| I assumed it was only me being a miserable old man but, I go to the game to watch rugby everything else is a distraction. Please go back to the ref out then the away team. Make them wait & then the home side come out to hopefully a bit of noise. I would prefer them to warm up out of site as well. But I suppose the sponsors want their piece of the limelight. Coming out together for internationals & finals are different as it highlights that it is something special.

Not for me. It had a bit of theatre about it for the first few players. Then after five or six you'd be thinking 'okay, let's get on with it'. By the time the subs from the second team out were being introduced everyone was cringing to death.
Personally I'm a believer in letting the rugby speak for itself. Some games are naturally more low key than others, and that's fine with me. They can't all be big matches. When there's a lot at stake and there's anxiety and tension about what's about to take place, you get a big game atmosphere. Trying to manufacture one with American-style hype and dramatic anticipation music just comes across as desperate to me.
