Barring a few obvious errors, the overall standard of officiating isn't too bad. Certainly no worse than other sports. Petitions like this are usually the work of those trying to make excuses for the shortcomings of their team.

If you look on the Hull KR website you will actually see some fans of the club biking to headingley from Craven Park on Friday raising money for charity. Yes all clubs have a minority of idiots but some hard workers as well

Slightly merging threads here. If you have thrown a bottle onto the pitch during a game then yes you are an idiot, if you haven't then no you are not

Wouldn't dream of it.
I'd ban the clowns for life. Don't drink at games anyway.

| Quote ="ScottHKR"Did you read the petition? There were plenty of suggestions in there.
This is what was there:
Some example areas that can be resolved:
* Technology used at all games - something that was trialed and used and then disappeared.
* Forward passes to be looked at on the video screen - technology is advanced enough to be able to have moveable lines on a screen to check where a ball was passed and caught.
* Two referees - a system tried and tested in the NRL
* Changes to video ref system - asking the video ref to prove the decision wrong, rather than to make it. Having multiple video refs/consultants
* More responsibility on linesmen
* Using the sin bin correctly, and not putting players on report as a cop out
Can you honestly disagree with any of those?
If Rugby Union can look at a screen for a forward pass (without any added technology I may add) then why can't we?'"
I agree with all these but the simple fact is, there aint enough money in RL to support them.

Where is the money from this coming from?
Quote ="ScottHKR"* Forward passes to be looked at on the video screen - technology is advanced enough to be able to have moveable lines on a screen to check where a ball was passed and caught.'"
Irrelevant to the current law on forward passes. And if you changed the law to make forward relative to the ground rather than the passing player it would kill the game.
Quote ="ScottHKR"* Two referees - a system tried and tested in the NRL'"
Not a bad idea but there are barely enough refs for one at each game let alone two.
Quote ="ScottHKR"* Changes to video ref system - asking the video ref to prove the decision wrong, rather than to make it. Having multiple video refs/consultants'"
How would that work? Like DRS in Cricket with a limited number of challenges? In any case the ref currently asks for confirmation or clarification from the VR not for the decision to be made as such - try listening to what gets asked.
Quote ="ScottHKR"* More responsibility on linesmen'"
Examples?
Quote ="ScottHKR"* Using the sin bin correctly, and not putting players on report as a cop out'"
On Report, while over-used IMO, is not used in place of the Sin Bin.
Quote ="ScottHKR"If Rugby Union can look at a screen for a forward pass (without any added technology I may add) then why can't we?'"
Hmmmmm...
Quote “Unless there is a clear incident of a forward pass I would not expect the TMO to get too involved in that,” said Morrison.
“Camera angles can be very deceptive and we’ve got to be very careful in that regard. It’s still a fundamental principle that the match referee is in charge and much will depend on his instinct.”'"
So they are only allowing the VR (TMO) to rule on [iblatant[/i forward passes. The immediate problem there is who decides how blatant the forward pass is?
Oh - and they have the exact same rule on forward passes that we do.

This isn't difficult.
If the VR can see the ball is clearly thrown forward out of the hands then it's disallowed.
If there is any doubt, benefit has to go to attacking side.

| Regarding listening to what they ask, asking the VR to "check the grounding" is passing the book.
The on field ref should say, for example, I think Tomkins has grounded that ball before he is in touch. Can you tell me otherwise.
Then if the VR says, well actually Richard, his foot is in touch.
Then the on field ref has had his decision proved wrong.

This is absolutely no different to what happens now. The assumption is that a try has been scored, so when the VR is asked to "check the grounding" - or indeed anything else - he is looking to confirm or deny the decision already made by the on field ref. It's just semantics.
Quite a lot of fans' anger at decisions comes from not actually understanding what is going on and/or the relevant laws.
Which is not to say that I think the current crop of officials are much cop, by the way. But at least focus on the real problems - numbers of referees and training - rather than tinkering with mechanisms that are mostly working as intended.

I think the OP is still a little down about Hull beating his team on Sunday. But lets take one of the incidents which they are moaning about into consideration.
For Rich Whitings try, at first glace, Holdsworths pass appears forward. From a static camera angle, the ball appears to drift forward in comparison to the grass lines on the pitch. The fact is, when you see holdsworths hand position on the ball at the point of passing, he throws it in a backward direction and his own speed inertia is what makes the ball appear to go forward in comparison to the ground.
All of which is irrelevant as its the motion of the ball in comparison to the block chucking it.

lol...when he was asked where the cash would come from he kind of shot himself in the foot on the London board
Quote ="ScottHKR"Tbh, a lot of it has gone into trying to keep a London team in super league.'"
Hello there Scott.
I'd very much appreciate a breakdown of the money London Broncos versions 1 and 2, together with Harlequins Rugby League have received that are over and above those received by any of the other 21 teams that have graced the Superleague between 1996 and the current season.
If you can't provide links to these payments, a summary of where and when you think they have been made and the amounts you believe the club have received would be helpful in identifying at what stage of your stunted development you came to believe in these payments as well as Santa and the Tooth fairy.
Scott, I get the impression that your one man campaign to stand up against wrong doers in RL and make it an even simpler game, makes you feel special. Well guess what Scott? I don't care what other people say about you. I don't care if you interfere with farmyard animals or even if you lick windscreens.
You hang in there mate....because you truly are special

It's "touch judges" not linesmen.
Your petition is pathetic, move on and get over it.

I think I disagree with just about every point there, which is good work from both of us:
* Technology used at all games - something that was trialed and used and then disappeared.
=#FF0000How would work at say Oldham where there's barely facilities to stand. Whose paying for it there?
* Forward passes to be looked at on the video screen - technology is advanced enough to be able to have moveable lines on a screen to check where a ball was passed and caught.
=#FF0000www.youtube.com/watch?v=box08lq9ylg
* Two referees - a system tried and tested in the NRL
=#FF0000The biggest problem with refereeing in RL for me is the inconsistency of the officials from week to week, but at least they are generally consistent within any individual game. Adding two referees would make rule enforcement inconsistent even within any single match
* Changes to video ref system - asking the video ref to prove the decision wrong, rather than to make it. Having multiple video refs/consultants
=#FF0000Like in the cricket where it has proved faultless?
* More responsibility on linesmen
=#FF0000I actually agree with this one, althoguh we should remember that in general touch-judges are less qualified and experienced than referees
* Using the sin bin correctly, and not putting players on report as a cop out
=#FF0000Agree 100%, a report should be for when the incident was not seen only
=#FF0000In general we have to accept that referees are human and make mistakes, but on the whole I would say Super League referees are pretty good. I have the advantage of watching SL games as a neutral and I very rarely finish a game thinking that the ref had a stinker, and never do it think they were bias. When you are supporting one team you are always going to sway one way. Of course there are odd occasions where a refereeing decision right at the end of a game may or may not have cost a team a win but these are a lot less frequent than when a dropped ball bombs a match winning chance, or a missed tackle lets a team win, should we start a petition to improve handling and tackling technique?

A TJ's job is, first and foremost, to rule on touch and touch in-goal. Anything else is only advisory to the referee. In addition, today's TJ's are wired up using the communication system. Yes, hand and flag signals are used in the lower leagues and away from the television cameras, but that doesn't mean SL touch judges don't give input to the referee.
Non televised Super League matches are all recorded by RFL representatives, and the match official's audio is recorded alongside it. If you ever get the chance to view one of these recordings, you'll then understand just how much the referee and TJ's communicate with each other.
Quote ="Jemmo"* Using the sin bin correctly, and not putting players on report as a cop out
=#FF0000Agree 100%, a report should be for when the incident was not seen only'"
I thought the on-report system was fairly explained by Steve Ganson in last week's Boots 'n' All. In the case of the Catalan player of Gareth O'Brien, it was used because the officials were unsure of the point of contact on O'Brien. Had Ben Thaler sent the Catalan player off, he would then have to describe the point of contact in his dismissal report which would be used in the disciplinary process.
Like a barrister in a court of law, every tiny detail is picked out at RFL disciplinary hearings by the defense. So if Thaler had said in his report, "the Catalan player deliberately made contact with his elbow on O'Brien's head" when on the video it is clear he deliberately used his forearm, the Catalan player would get off scott-free because the report was not accurate.
By placing the incident on report, it ensures the incident is looked at in Leeds by the Match Review Panel, and the guilty player is more likely to get a suspension for his actions and it doesn't question the integrity of the match officials.
