The post is a couple of metres back from the dead ball line in that sport, the bend in the upright puts the crossbar directly over the end line in the end-zone.

No no no, we're Americanised enough already with club names, badges, mascots etc. Nowt wrong with the posts, they've always been there and should always be there IMO.

I remember reading a report about the New Hunslet posts. I think it was Workington who 'scored' 4 tries only to discover that the post was on the dead ball line and therefore they were disallowed. Hunslet also the try scoring area marked with criss cross lines.

Given the sheer amount of horrific injuries suffered on a weekly basis by RL players because of the shape and positioning of the posts, we should change them immediately.

American football changed to the deadball posts with the rise in prominense of the pass for a td that's it, it obstructed scoring. Rl doesn't have this problem as the post is the goaline

How about instead of placing the ball on the ground behind the try line, lets award a try when a player in possession of the ball simply crosses the try line?

Imagine the Premier league when a goalkeeper disappears down a hole in the middle of his goal!!!

Thats very true and they also had a lot of players getting injured running into the post ironically.

Couldn't we have them held in place by powerful magnetic fields so that the posts wouldn't need to have legs and just be a 'U' Shape?

having watched games at New Hunslet and seen many schools American football games ,,,,,,i can tell you that the "target area" for a successful goal kick move ....not a lot but they do move ....this can get worse if the opposition are stood close to them

What then stops Amos or any other player clattering themselves against the singular post? Sure the odds are reduced but the risk is still there! The posts are padded and it was just an unfortunate occurance for Roberts no reason to spend thousands of pounds on new posts IMO.

Plenty better things for us to copy from NFL than posts on the pitch.

I reckon after every tackle,the game should stop for a couple of minutes to get the defense back in place and also allowing players to celebrate and hit each other on the bum if more than 5 yards are made.

Possibly if they've had home games there. I think I remember the Russian national team playing a game at the stadium in Moscow ,Luinski (??? - not sure of name) stadium or something and it was the first time American Football style posts had been used in RL.

New Hunslet were playing with American Football Posts circ 1975 ..... which is a long time before the game was ever played in Russia at a national level
