| Great night in Perth for RL last night.
First the WA State side beat the BARLA GB Lions.
Then the Sold Out signs went up on the gates before they opened meaning we had sold over 22k tickets to the game.
Finally over 15,000 hardy souls braved some of the worse rain in memory to watch a great game of old fashioned footy showing the NRL just how committed Perth is to getting a team back in the NRL.
We cannot be denied!

| Next time a game is played over there, make sure both teams are supplied with a set of flippers each.
Reminded me of playing junior footy in the late 70s (fun stuff). Poor kids these days have all their sports cancelled if it drizzles the night before.

| The only way that game could have been more awesome was if the players were caked in mud, and you couldn't tell who was who. Someone turned back the clock lastnihgt.

seems some of your east coast fans are as inward looking as some of "our rugby on the m62 only" fans

OK, shame though as it's available online in Oz from Newtown themselves.
Just in case you change your mind...

Gallop was impressed!
WA's tick of approval for NRL side from league boss David Gallop
LOCK in Perth for an NRL licence.
NRL chief David Gallop has given the strongest indication yet that the WA Rugby League will be granted one of two new licences in an expanded 18-team competition.
But Perth rugby league fans may have to wait until 2014 or 2015 to see regular games, with the NRL expected to delay expansion.
Perth underlined its strength when tickets were sold out and 15,371 showed up at nib Stadium, despite shocking conditions, for Friday night's clash between South Sydney and Brisbane.
The game had strong TV ratings in Queensland and NSW, probably the most important piece of the bid jigsaw.
Gallop said new franchises in Queensland and WA would snare a greater television audience for the NRL and, in turn, financially boost the code due to their location.

NRL players back Perth's inclusion
www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/leag ... 1h7rj.html
It was a different story for boom capital Perth however, with the overwhelming majority of almost 44 per cent of players declaring if the game was to expand it must be into a new state.
''I can't really see the point of expansion if we're just putting teams into areas where there's already rugby league,'' one player said. Another added: ''If we want to actually grow the game, then it would have to be in Western Australia for sure.''
On Perth, cult Manly figure George Rose said a team in Western Australia was an obvious choice.
''I think it's a good number at the moment, the competition, but if we have to go somewhere I reckon Perth,'' he said.
''If they want to throw a team in at Perth, I'd love to travel over there.''

| Not surprised, reckon Sth's wpuld have made well over $500k from the June game, probably twice what they earn from most home games. I reckon there is quite a few clubs eyeing up Perth for games over next few years till we get a team.

Meninga Backs WA for NRL Team
Quote
Rugby league legend Mal Meninga believes it is inevitable that WA will join the National Rugby League. How it happens is another matter.
The record-breaking former Australian, Queensland and Canberra Raiders captain and Maroons State of Origin coach said the new NRL commission would need to make tough decisions over the expansion that was expected to include a WA Reds side within three years.
Meninga said a priority was ensuring a good spread of talented players.
"The issue is not about Perth coming back into the competition it's about how you do that," Meninga said.
"It's inevitable and it's important that WA is included in any expansion if we are going to be a truly national rugby league.

Confirmed East stand will be stage 1
The State Government has reversed tack on the redevelopment of rectangular nib stadium in East Perth, deciding it will now include corporate facilities in the planned new eastern grandstand.
State Cabinet on Monday approved an increase in the grandstand project's budget to $95.1 million from $88.5 million so extra facilities can be included when it goes to tender later this year.
The stand will include 56 open corporate boxes, seating 420, and a 250-people barbecue terrace.
