| Michael Oldfield and Ben Pomeroy joining Vincent Duport in the Catalans three quarter line is going to create a lot of headaches for the opposing teams, esp. top 8 aspirants like Salford.

| Quote ="Biff Tannen"They probably wont finish top 5 but like i say if things fall right it is more than possible.Who would have predicted Hudds. to finish top of the pile last season or even top 4 for that matter before the season began? certainly not me.The way the bigger sides approach the regular season these days, aiming to peak for the play offs then the opportunity is there early on for a team like Salford to make a good solid start and hang on for a decent finish.
Like i say, things will have to go in their favour for that to happen and as Salford fans have said themselves a top 8 finish will do them nicely, and i expect them to at least achieve that now with the quality they have brought in.'"
That's true for everyone though surely? If the entire Leeds team fall down with a mysterious illness for 6 months and castleford hit a great run of form, it's entirely possible they will finish top 4 instead of Leeds. It's unlikely to happen though. That's the beauty of sport!
As for Huddersfield, I think most would agree they've been underperforming for a few years (they did as Salford did in 2005 in that they started like a house on fire, only they finished off a hell of a lot worse) - they were surprising to finish top, but were definitely capable of top 4 for the last few years. Salfords team so far isn't as good as the Huddersfield team of the last couple of years,
The problem you have is gelling the team together for that good start, you have quite a few players who are used to having to win it on their own, and have to learn to be part of a team capable of winning. Willie Manu was dire at the start of last season for saints, because he was trying to play the same role as he was used in hull, aka the go to match winner, when he wasn't needed to. It too 6 months to get him out of that mindset, and it's something Salford would need to look at.
I think there are some Salford fans getting a little ahead of themselves, I entirely understand how exciting all these signings must be given where you were a year ago, but talking about resting players in your first game (as was posted on the Salford board) is a little premature!

Can I just point out that that is one poster who has been shot down by myself and many others. It is in fact one of the most ludicrous things I've ever read on these boards and that’s saying something.

I know but it's an accumulation, you have other posts talking about odds of Salford winning a trophy etc and I was nice and didn't mention anything red league has ever said!
It's nice to see optimism in league at the moment, some saints fans were capable of finding negatives in us re-signing roby!

| And to get this thread back on track:
Liam Finn ---> castleford
Are castleford just hoarding halfbacks?!? If so can saints borrow one please
I think most teams recruitment is very nearly over, are people happy with their teams signings for 2014? Anyone you feel you missed out on/ wanted to sign/ saw another club signing with envy?

Huddersfield have finished in the top four 3 times from the last 5 seasons..

Be interesting to see how much patience the good dr has if Salford are 8 - 10 th in 6 - 8 games. Lots of pressure on Noble

one thing pita godinet isn't and thats a halve, he is a hooker all day. But one that you would have to say is better than paul aiton. another pretty immense signing for wakefield.

I thought he was an outstanding young half before he was pushed into the hooking role

i think he is a good runner but at the top level i don't think has that same snap also i think he seriously lacks any kicking skills. don't get me wrong you could get him playing in a structure and he would do it reasonably well but i don't think he looks as good there as at a hooker.
Very good signing for wakefield either way.

He's an out and out halfback not a hooker though I realise the lines are very blurred these days. He played the hooking roll in an emergency situation at the start of the season.
TBH with the lack of British HB's he'd frankly look brilliant at 7 if he were a converted prop!

i dont agree i have seen him play both positions and he still looks a lot better player at hooker. for me a half back needs a kicking game and he always looks tidy at the play of the ball.

Well most Warriors fans don't seem to agree - however as I said! the lines are blurred these days between 6,7,9 and even 13 that it hardly matters especially in SL where as I said an NRL Prop would look good

| All these overseas signings are showing the way the game is going in this country.
Enjoy whilst it lasts and forget any competitive home nation international teams for the foreseeable future.
I see that there are new shades of sand available , always available in different grit sizes to suit all heads.
Also available new blinkers in many colours but still designed to ensure you can only have one narrow view.

To be fair its a case of four out three in for Trinity. Unless the RFL are changing things thats Trinity's non-fed quota full.

can't seem to find any links to Nesi Mataitonga at Cronulla last year? Was he NSW Cup (if he was, he didn't play in the final) or was he on the fringes of the 20's?
