| Quote ="John Gilbert Reds"I can't think of many better in Super League than Harrison Hansen in what he does. As you say, he's a workhorse who does all the hard graft every successful team needs. An example of this was seen in the Wigan v Leeds game last season at the DW, Joel Moon made a break at a point in the game which would have got Leeds back in with a shout and Hansen chased the man down and not only made a try saving tackle but also knocked the ball free from Moons hands.
The lad is class pure and simple.
It's also a big thing for us as he is a Salford lad, his Dad played for us and we've just signed a player under contract from the double winning Champions who is in his prime.'"
Oh I'm not doubting his credentials, but you haven't signed Greg Inglis, you've signed a very good 2nd rower. The way Solly fans are going on you'd think the big Melbourne trio had signed and were bringing the Burgess boys with them.
And he's definitely from Swinton.
Quote ="Derek Smalls"'Mental excitement'? You're damn right.
Exactly one year ago today the club were meeting fans to explain what a hole we were in, and we were left feeling that it was very unlikely we would be able to start the 2013 season. 12 months on we have signed our 14th new player. And it's Harrison Hansen, who was due a testimonial and was set to play in a World Club Challenge match in Australia for his one and only club, the recent double winners...'"
God, don't we know it.
He's moved simply because Kashkow has thrown a fortune at him. The way I heard it H originally turned him down in order to see out his testimonial year at Wigan even though Dr K offered to beat whatever he expected to make, and then join Salford in 2015. The only thing that would change his mind is cold hard cash. No player in their right minds would make such a move unless it was a hugely rich deal.

| Obviously HH isnt anywhere near the Greg Inglis standard, but he is the best signing we have made in the last god knows how many years. We have every right to be excited.

| Of course he's moved for a decent pay rise. But hopefully because he also sees the potential of winning a trophy or two with a side that is building from nothing. Especially when we start to plunder the NRL (thanks for the tips)
And you may be bored of hearing about our how many new signings we've made, etc, but not half as tired as we Salford fans are of seeing Dr Koukash's name spelt in 'amusing' styles...

| Cronus,
Give it a break, we are entitled after god knows how many years to enjoy our time in the sun. And we have enticed a player who is in contract to leave and paid a transfer fee for him. Can't remember that happening ever for Salford, only the other way around (from us to just about every other team).
BTW, Swinton falls within the City of Salford. Splitting hairs I know but if you must go on about it just know he is from Salford.

Salford have made a good buy and its sound move to secure his future, good luck to HH just not against Wigan.

| No sign that there's a single Salford fan who isn't pleased. That feelgood factor's bound to have a knock on effect in terms of season ticket sales IMO. Neither is anyone saying he's not a decent player. Exactly what you want in a signing.

I think Cronus was spot on in his assessment of Hansen as a player. He's a good second rower who would be welcome in most teams. Not a superstar at a top club but a very good signing for a, with all due respect, "smaller" club.
Exactly the type of player Salford should be signing in my opinion. A couple more of Hansen's calibre and style is what they need. Move from the bottom end of the table to the middle.

You need a chip for your other shoulder that way you might be able to give a more balanced view, out of interest which "top" club would have had the power to entice a double winning in contract with a testimonial due national captain away from the Wigan Warriors ?

Admittedly a few intentional pokes at Salford fans, but I stand by my statement - H is outstanding at what he does - graft and tackle. He'll do it all day and he'll do it better than most, but it gets no more spectacular than that. He'll rarely break the line but then that's not been his job. I'm certainly not trying to put him down - he's been in everyone's starting 13 at Wigan for several years and is hugely admired - but honestly you'd think he was SBW the way Salford fans are going on.
Genuinely not really that fussed he's left Wigan. He missed 11 games through injury last year and Wigan are blessed when it comes to 2nd rowers, as well as kids coming through. He'll be hard to replace but the talent is there.
All that said, I truly hope he and Salford do well. We need more clubs growing in strength and challenging for honours. You won't hear me complain even if Salford beat Wigan in a final. Many friends are die-hard Salford fans and I see them as my 'second' club. I like Koukash and want him to succeed. Those are genuine sentiments, not some faux attempt to sound reasonable on an internet forum.
As for all the nauseating 'welcome home' rubbish, give over, he's a Swinton lad, went to school in Swinton, played for Folly Lane of Swinton.

Any club willing to outbid Koukash by the sound of things.

I know exactly where it is, the Mrs went there and knew H and his (very pretty) sister. Actually, did you know the school recently moved to a new site over the East Lancs?
It's in Swinton. In Salford, granted. But still Swinton. No amount of straw clutching will change that. And as a Salford fan you should understand what that means more than most - or are you choosing to ignore that rivalry to suit on this occasion?
Aye, welcome "home" to a club you've never been part of before.

Welcome home as in, he town club. The club he supported as a boy, the club he supported his dad playing for. So I'd say welcome home was pretty appropriate.

I doubt Wigan would have sold him to any club that they'd consider a threat to them, same as they did with Hock last season.

There are quite a few of us older Salford supporters who would not agree with that, and if you ask Swinton supporters which team they would most like to play and beat in the cup the great majority would say Salford. (Though in another thread on this forum and others, an appeal to sign a petition for a new ground for Swinton was well supported by Salford fans).

I hate Swinton (even though I play for Folly ) and Swinton fans are so bitter and twisted towards Salford it's untrue (in fact a bit like most rugby league fans are since the Koukash takeover) There is no on field rivalry anymore, but off the field I'd still say there's something there.

Out of interest do you know where HH was actually born? If you can tell us that then you can tell us exactly where he is from, stop bleating on about where he grew up, went to school etc, tell us where he was born please.

| Black Cat, he was born in Auckland. I am afraid you made that rather easy for Cronus and I can't blame him for taking the mickey out of your quote. I understand your point that he was raised as a Salford lad and even if he was born elsewhere home is where the heart is but at least get your facts right when you are challenging someone as you make it easy for comebacks if you don't.
Cronus, the City of Salford is run from the town of Swinton. As you probably know there are several towns and hamlets that fall in Salford's boundaries and many people in these areas choose to be classified as Salfordian as the alternative is to be ultra parochial or, god forbid, be classified as a Manc.

Salford, Swinton, Manchester... It doesn't really matter - they're all holes on the wrong side of the hills!
I really like what the Dr is doing over at Salford - yeah he's no doubt circumventing the salary cap, and he's trying to buy his way to success initially, but if he's around for the long term, it can only be a good thing for Salford and the game in general. It's no different to what Moran has done at Wire and they are in great shape now. The only difference is Moran has done it alot quieter, and the Dr seems intent on enhancing the game as a whole rather than just his club.
He tweeted recently that he'd like one of his 'friends' to get involved with the Bulls - the more the merrier for me. He's adding profile to the sport, throwing money around and seems to genuinely have fallen in love with the game.
