Dont be so soft
If Laffranchi had banjo'd Mcllorum you would have been loving it. There would have been threads a go-go about how that orrible little Tez Newton clone had got what he deserved.
I bet you all loved it when Perry smashed his elbow into Lima's face. Not that you would admit it on here mind, you are all to busy jumping on the soap box.

Reading the report on the BBC website makes it sound a bit weird...
Quote After initially allowing play to continue, Alibert stopped play after the next tackle to enable Kirke to receive treatment and, during the delay, he delivered a warning to O'Donnell.
The Australian forward was then replaced but, several minutes later, was recalled to the field by the referee and, once Kirke had been carried from the field on a stretcher on his way to hospital, was shown the red card. '"
WTF? It sounds like Alibert didn't make that call then, so that makes it 2 referees this weekend that have sent players off without actually making the call themselves.

That sounds exactly like the Alibert we all know and love.
A hideous referee.

Well you're wrong about Child, because on the Sky transmission you can quite clearly him say that he'd seen the incident and full marks to him for taking the correct action. Mickey Mac!! more like Mickey Mouse. The longer the ban, the better.

He saw the late challenge, he was allowing play on FFS! If Saints had scored off that play McIlorum would've stayed on the field most likely. You can hear him conversing with (mostly likely) the VR.

| O'Donnell on Kirke was nothing, but an accidental clash of heads (albeit a bad one). Should never have been a sending off and doubt there will be any further action.

LOL, and yet this "unintelligent" coach takes a relatively unfancied - at the start of the season - squad to the top of League (Even Wigan fans thought 4th would be OK). A clueless individual obviously.

| Rather than anything from the match, the thing that disgusted me was Eddie Hemming's comments relating to the young school choir singing the Joining Jack song. He introduced them as Sacred Heart School singing 'Grandma we love you'.
Disgraceful comments from a 'supposedly' professional commentator.

I doubt he knew the severity of the challenge and was conversing with someone, could have been VR, could have been touch judge. Either way the correct decision was reached, I find it difficult to criticise a ref for using all assets available to him to make the right decision.
He was allowing advantage not play on, and I doubt the outcome of that advantage would have made any difference, in fact it would give the ref, TJ's and VR longer to converse.

That's what many people have been calling for all season, myself included.
I'm not a terrific fan of Mr Child, but I thougt he got that one right; played advantage, took advice and the resulting decision was spot on. Good work from the officials.

Spot on. I can't stand him as a referee, and he should have been dropped on many, many occasions this year but sadly the standard of refereeing of late is as poor as I've ever seen it.
No complaints about the red card though, and if he got a word in his ear from someone, I haven't got any issue with that as the correct decisions should be enforced.

| It's only been a couple of weeks since there was a ref on GMR saying that the video ref won't feed the referee any information, or prompt him unless he puts the square in the air.

If Saints had scored, no he wouldnt have stayed on the pitch and it wasnt the VR he was conversing with. When the incident happened, it was the Saints players shouting at him, which you can clearly hear him say to them "ive seen it and will deal with it" as play was continuing.

| There was no involvement from the video ref. The referee saw it and acted upon it. He let play go on as mentioned to play advatage. When there was none, he pulled it back and sent the grub off.

Listen to what Child says after he pulls McIlorum to him, he's discussing it with someone else. I've put it on YouTube if you wanna see it dude.
FYI, I'm not disputing the red card, just that Child and his touchies didn't realise the severity of it! No VR = on report. Fact.

I agree, he's def talking to someone, whether it's the VR I don't know but I'd agree it's more likely as the refs tend to speak to the TJ's face to face.
It's not a fact it'd be on report with no VR, the ref might well have had the balls to send him off.
Quote ="rob_a"I haven't seen this particular incident but I have heard other referees asking the VR to check incidents of suspected foul play this season'"
Yep so have I, IIRC the Webb tackle in the Wakey v Leeds game wasn't even given as a penalty initially and if play hadn't been stopped due to the Wakey player needing treatment then I reckon play would have carried on. In that stoppage in play I'm sure the ref is talking to someone over the mic about the tackle. Again I can't 100% say it was the VR but I don't know who else he'd be talking to.

| Would people be happy to have the video ref more actively involved?
By that if he sees something he relays it to the ref during play, i would but only if an infringement was dealt with when there is a genuine stop in play. We all want the right decisions going on plus how many of us are sick of the 'cop out' report system.

I wouldn't mind but the Tanseygate came about from the VR doing exactly that but getting it wrong.

| O' donnell did nothing wrong it was all in the imagination of the match officials who decided that because kirke was lying injured then foul play must have been involved, not nice seeing a player prone like kirke was, but it was an unfortunate clash of heads, we are still awaiting official response from cummings/ RFL as to why LOD was sent off when none of the officials saw anything wrong at the time,it wasnt even a penalty, but decided nearly 10 mins later that he must have done something!
Disgracful, farcical and corrupt decision and not one word of apology or explanation, twice now LOD has been sent off v leeds for nothing.

One word - Alibert.
A pathetic excuse for a referee.
