| Quote ="belgianxiii"For me, the interesting point here is that the RFL are setting the groundworks for possibly swapping 3 clubs out of the SL. Unlikely, but they could turn conventional wisdom of only relegating 0/1 clubs from SL on its head and drop 3 for 3. Remember, those dropped clubs could be in again the following round.'" My thoughts as well. This would probably mean Widnes and Toulouse plus A.N. Other, possibly Halifax as the Shay will be finished in time.

Tell a lie, if they expressing an interest then the might have to do some sort of pre-tender questionnaire to show they are suitable for the work so the tenders won't go out early August according to this article.

Yes clearing has been happening on site for a while.
To be fair without firm planning permission, and without final plans no amount of ground work is going to achieve anything.

common sense would say that cas and wakey pool their financial resources to finish off a stadium which both can share and guarantee both clubs SL position.'"
Maybe it’s because I’m partial, but with SL looking to expand why on earth would they be happy with two clubs operating from the same stadium?
Both clubs seem to be happy with developing their own venues so let them get on with it. Both have land to use as guarantees for loans to fund the developments and both seem well on the way to getting something built. Of course until people are actually sitting in it there will always be sceptics and with past proposals on the stadium front that is their prerogative. The local council is involved in both developments so any PP will be looked upon favourably.
Sport England objected to the planning permission proposal to turn BV into a housing development because of the loss of the pitch, they were, however, satisfied that the loss of the pitch would be more then made up by the construction of the new stadium and surrounding sporting facilities that will be built in Stanley. Having said that they have insisted that the new facilities must be constructed before the existing pitch can be dug up.

theres a very good chance neither will get a stadium done in time for the next round of franchising.
cas certainly have issues with finance, wakey as well.
together with their assets pooled they would have a better chance of getting it done than going solo.
australian clubs do share stadiums so its not that big a deal.

Again utter crap, good god man you could throw a stadium up in 12 months never mind groundworks the work going on there would have to be done no matter what gets built there be that a warehouse or a stadium, the teams you mention may be able to compete given the 12 million or so your club have had off sky, yet they still manage to get decent stadiums. I know for a fact pulermo will not buy the jungle, you are nowhere near getting a stadium, Richard wright keeps drip feeding you lot and the rfl bull

Agree with you on this one. Can't see the benefit to the area by having two white elephants so close to each other. Pool resources, build a better stadium and share it 50/50. Inter Milan/AC Milan fans aren't that fond of each other and neither are the two sets from Turin, but as a business venture, it makes sense.
Alternative is to dire to think of, because if one of the two (or both) get bounced out, it'll be a long time before they get back in to SL. Given Widnes would seem to be a shoe in next time, I would be very concerned if I were the fans of the clubs warned. Salford would seem to be in trouble, but if the RFL do insist on fast tracking 2lose into SL, then something has to give.
As for "the recession" being used as an excuse....sorry, but the assurances were given before we had a recession and if the rug has been pulled afterwards....well, such is life.

I can't see how anyone – even a cockney with no knowledge who should know better – can describe a 13,000 seat stadium, with community sports facilities including a swimming pool, located at the second most visited attraction in the country as a white elephant.
And of course the other stadium shows no sign of being built

Why should I know better? Mark my words, one of Castleford and Wakefield will come unstuck over this stadium malarky. Origami stadiums will not get you SL licence in 2011. Bricks and Mortar will! HTH

Edited for accuracy.
I think for Halifax to get admitted into Super League they will need to improve their crowds. At the moment they just aren't big enough to suggest that they will be any higher than they were last time around. Another 1500 or so would do your application a world of good.
I feel for Fax as they are in an area even more claustrophobic than Widnes' is. Therefore they will really have to present a good case. I don't think a stadium on it's own is enough.
If you continue to dominate the league next year though that will only help your application.

I was under the assumption that Salford had full planning permission and stadia design. That would make them further along than Cas in my book.

The council have approved the new road access, and a pedestrian footbridge to the town centre. The site has been cleared and tenders have been invited for the building work.

| I love Fax as a rugby league venue. Everything about the place is top class. I even like the baby blue and white hooped kit, very easy on the eye. I have some terrific memories of going to watch Saints win (usually) exciting games there as a kid, when Fax had the likes of Moana and Bentley.
I'd have them in now. They've got to be above Wakefield and Salford in the running, as have Widnes. (And there is no bitterness in there despite Saints recent results)

| SL will want to have at least one new club in for next time. They will not expand numbers from 14 because this will lead to a hefty cut in Sky money. No SL club would vote for a cut in their SL money.
The success of Saints and the strategic value of Celtics mean the other 3 clubs are most vunerable.
The RFL have very publically put down a marker. Clubs and fans cannot say they did not know that grounds are a critical issue. A letter like this will have to be approved by the RFL board. The clear indication is that if your stadium is rank then you will not be considered.
The race is now on between 3 clubs. By Feb 2011 who will be furthest on with their stadium? With fax and Widnes likely to have strong bids - and good facilities - the 2 slowest SL clubs re stadia are likely to go.
They have been warned!
