Its not a good kick if its goes dead though, is it?

I'm not saying to get rid of the conversion, I am saying that we need to stop the clock when the try is scored. The goal kicker gets a minute to set the ball up, have a break, shine his shoes, pull his socks up, before the clock is stopped. Stop it when the try is scored then restart it when the player is ready to kick the ball

Equally, this could be cured by taking the tap on the 30 metre or even the halfway line.
Although this sounds extreme, it would instantly prevent teams kicking the ball dead.

Why not penalise kicking into touch while you're at it? After all, teams use that as a tactic to their advantage too.

Why do we need to cure anything?

Kicking the ball dead is not a skill though is it? Its lumping the ball down field as hard as you can. You end up rewarded for a poor kick.

Whether it goes dead or in touch kicking the ball out of play isn't a skill is it, so why not penalise both?

Presuming the OP is not on a wind up. I would like to see tries from kicks to be reduced to 2 points in junior or development competitions as at the moment a kick to the corner is a far to familiar tactic. But in the profesional or open age group keep it at 4 points.

Regarding stopping the clock, yes fine, but then we'll have to reduce the game to 60 minutes, otherwise it will be too much for the players, the ball-in-play time will then be too long, it's tough enough at the moment.

Yes. They've also been saying that the number of players should be reduced to 11, the game should be played in quarters, that England/GB should play NSW or Queensland instead of Australia, that scrums should be abolished etc. They're fu(king crazy. That's why we sent them to Australia.

I would like to see set times on goal kicks, drop outs and re starts.

Scrums to be replaced by a tap re start and if not, a penalty awarded if a team fails to pack a scrum correctly.

A 20m re start to be allowed anywhere behind the 20m line, not just centrally as it is now.

Because the Roosters scored too many from them last yr. And they used the kick to the corner too much, Manly-Warringah deserved to have bn closer in the GF than what they were, under the scoring system that I suggested the score in the GF would have bn 14 all. Daly Cherry-Evans won the Clive Churchill.

What do you mean they scored too many from them? How many becomes too many and, more importantly, why?? I'm really struggling to understand why a certain number of tries from kicks is a problem.

As for the GF being 14 all, that's precisely the problem with your hare brained idea. The teams were competing on a level playing field and both had the option to try to score from kicks. One team scored the most so deserved to be in the lead!

FURTHERMORE, I would suggest that rather than tinker with the game and the way it is played, we'd be better off working on the off-field stuff and securing the games future as a professional sport in the UK with a decent list of sponsors and investors.

A team should be allowed to play the ball from wherever within their 20 regardless of where the ref is or the opposition as soon as they chose.

I don't like the current (new) ruling whereby the 20m restart is affected by whether or not the ball is "passed" by the team about to restart when the ball isn't even in play! It suggests that we are "in play" even when we aren't and seems counter intuitive to me. The ball is dead until it's tapped on the 20m so nothing that players do with the ball within that time should matter.

I'd change the rule on tap 20 to the good old fashioned tap it as soon as you're there, if your defence is sleeping tough.

That is the rule still, its the offence and officials that cause the delay .

You have to run it in yourself, I'd allow them to pass it to another player, forget everyone else being set, just tap and go.

The kicks to the corner is too aussie rules for me.

Of course theres high skill but too see it as a finishing play time and again in a game is boring me.

And it just means no place for smaller outside backs.

Also the arm wrestle of constant repeat sets.

I think theres 2 rule changes that would lessen their impact.

1 When you kick the ball forward the ball either has to hit the ground or the opposition before you can regather.

2 You only get 1 repeat set from a drop out. No consecutive drop outs.

I would like to see less time wasting in the game too.

3 Video ref 1 min max then handed back to ref if no decision.

4 30 seconds max on the clock for tries and kicks.

And finally Id like to see the last play rule put back - if the balls in play when the hooter sounds its still game on until it goes dead.

We should get the full 80 mins I hate tight games that finish 60-90 seconds early because that jeopardy has been taken away.
