I think he's the most talented player in SL but don't think he should be MOS this season

He has by far been the best player in Super League this season and by his standards he has still had quiet games. Sam Tomkins stats speak for themselves and if he doesn't win it this year, then it will be a travesty.

Why a travesty? He doesn't have the god divine right to win it because he plays for Wigan.
He's played in the best team so far this year and is constantly on the front foot running at battered teams. Yes, he has been superb, there's no questioning that but would he have had the same impact in a team on the back foot quite like Rangi Chase managed at Cas last year? Who knows. Not saying he doesn't deserve it either, but I'd go with someone else.

FWIW Michael Monaghan was by far the best player in the competition last year IMO but he didn't win it. Hardly a travesty - just showed the players respect for Rangi's efforts.

For me it should be James Roby, without him I believe Saints would have been distinctly average and would be nothing more than a mid-table team this year. Everything seems to go through him, completely. Instead he's managed to keep them chasing 2nd until Monday's defeat.

What the hell has it got to do with the fact that he plays for Wigan? Doesn't always have to be about Wigan, now matter how much you would like it to be. Fact is, he has been the best player in Super League this year. 2nd top try scorer, 1st in try assists, 1st in clean breaks, 1st in tackle busts, its impressive stuff.

I'd agree Roby has been consistently good over the past 3 or 4 seasons, but I reckon this season may have possible been his worse, but still far better than any other hooker in Super League.

Any quick player with basic ball skills would have similar stats playing FB in that Wigan team. The hysteria around Tomkins is laughable. Cant catch bombs, average in defence, terrible attitude. When he plays well in a grand final, c cup final or in an England shirt Ill reconsider. In the meantime everyone needs to get over the fact we have a quick player who's English.

but I'll admit he does have to much of a winning attitude and he needs to tune it down a bit.

hes already been hes fantastic normal self in a grand final against saints and it was only a fantastic performance from Tommy who stopped him winning man of the match. wouldn't exactly say he played poor against Leeds in the challenge cup final he did set Joel up for that fantastic try but he did play a lot better against wire in the semi. he played fantastic against the Aussies in the 1st game of the last 4 nations with a lot of Aussies fans calling him a "Gun", i suggest you watch the highlights on YouTube.

there is plenty of fast England players i would say Atkins is the fastest, but if you just think Sam is just fast what do you think of billy Slater? or is Inglis just big and strong?

good to see there is still the green eyed fans out there even if the majority have realized hes no fluke or flash in the pan.

how about Sir Steve Menzies as MOS ?

had a great season and it would be a brilliant tribute to a fine player ?

i would make a special service award for him hes not the best player in the league but he is a fantastic role model for any young player.

i do like casty, gives his all and is the beast at the front of catalans pack. hope he continues to develop, along with catalan. like you say unfortunately hes not in the most appealling position and would probably, no offense, get alot more recognition at another club.

I'd go for Menzies.

Even though I believe James Roby should be the MOS, I do think special mention should be made for Kevin Sinfield. He's been consistently good, week-in, week-out, often winning games on his own for Leeds. If Sinfield doesn't function, neither do the Rhinos.

Ive watched every big game hes played in, and hes been average or poor in all of them as youve just admitted. Over rated.

Tompkins is class, thats why he is disliked so much by other teams fans, but he does not do enough across the board for me to be a MOS.

Only 18 errors, pretty much every major play maker in each team has more. Although most other playmakers do not play at fullback, so he also has to take high balls, as well as be the creative link in attack.

Which areas does he not do enough?

I understand people not liking him but I genuinely can't see how another player can have looked better than him in someone's eyes.

Tomkins is a great player, but these stats are ridiculous. Roby topped every stat available last year and didn't win it. If stats were accurate, Phil Clarke would be entertaining...

FWIW I think the Man Of Steel, the person to have the biggest impact on the Super League in 2012, should be Mick Potter. Massive, massive, massive respect for a coach who can guide an average squad to the brink of the playoffs in normal circumstances, take away 6 points and 4 months wages and the guy should have a statue outside Odsal (subject to funding)

Tomkins has been the only real stand out. As good as Wigan have been I doubt that they'd be top if it weren't for Tomkins.

For me Tomkins and Roby have been by far the standout 2 players of the league this season...

Going on all round,consistent performances then Roby is brilliant every week, however Tomkins can be having a quiet game, then suddenly chime into it and do something brilliant to turn a game on its head that arguably no other player in SL could do.

Due to his consistency I would say Roby just edges Tomkins as MOS this season but couldnt argue too much if rat boy got it
