This whole ginger thing is very interesting

A little while ago, probably about 5 or 6 years, there was a poster campaign for a gas company that showed a ginger couple with a ginger a baby and the tag line was “there are some things in life you can’t choose!” There was no mistaking the context and it was meant to be humorous

I found that fascinating – if that had been about the colour of their skin, the outrage would have been immediate and huge

Many people will say it is just a bit of fun but I bet it isn’t for the young kid who gets bullied every day because society has now decided that it is OK to deride one part of community for a physical characteristic and not another

Joel Monaghan has ginger hair and I would be a hell of a lot more comfortable with him receiving stick about his dog sex simulation activities than part of his appearance

And there is the difference, you know when people insult your gingerness it is either banter at best and petty name calling at worst. You are big enough and strong enough to have comments made about you and rise above it, as we all should be.

However racist and homophobic comments arent simply banter or name calling, they are expressions of real and abhorrent discrimination.

I'm defending the majority of Cas supporters who didn't subject Thomas to homophobic abuse and are getting a touch fed up when we are all thrown under one label because of a handful of idiots.

What I was trying to get across with reference to the Monaghan thing is that there is no sliding scale in the 'RESPECT' policy and all abuse/banter should be treat equally...but in our experience this is not the case.
