Why?
This is RL, not boxing.

Sometimes RL is just boxing with bigger teams
At this kind of level, it's OK. Uni sides probably train more than most semi pro sides anyway. If it were SL 1st teamers vs amateurs, that would be something else.

I'm not suggesting anything other than when this type of thing happens , it should be investigated , especially if as I have pointed out it is potentially a team consisting of relatively young players

| So stop knock-out competitions. Never let amateurs play semi-pros or semi-pros play full-time pros. Have 3 stages of the CC: Stage 1 for amateurs - but no matter how well they do, never let them get to Stage 2, where only semi-pro clubs from the championships will play, but no matter how well they do, never let them get to stage 3, which will be for professional Super League clubs only. Of course, only those clubs in Stage 3 will be allowed to go on and actually win it.

What I am suggesting is that we seem to have a system in place that artificially allows a team that is totally unsuitable and unprepared , to reach the stage of a competition that could even prove dangerous to the team members , RL is not like most other sports , it is sold as the hardest , toughest game on the planet , it is not something that you should mess about with , IMO of course

But, coming back to the original post, Thorman hasn't actually broken the all-time record anyway - so George West of Hull KR still stands on the top of the pile.

Yes he has. he got 54 points to West's 53.
He has not broken the amended record taking into account the old scoring system. But his name will go into the record books and rightly so. Well done CT.

Erm, may I be as bold as to suggest that the "amended record" is the one where tries are somehow magically worth 33% more points even though the same physical event took place, rather than the other way round. On a like-for-like basis, the only valid basis for any scoring record, West beats Thorman by either 53 vs 50 or 64 vs 54, whichever way you prefer to cut it.
C'mon you Rovers!

| Update : the RFL website now has Thorman kicking all 20 goals, as well as scoring 4 tries, so taking his tally to 56.
[urlhttp://www.therfl.co.uk/history_of_the_sport/all_time_records[/url
Sky Sports ScoreCentre had Presley kicking 1 of the goals when I first posted, and in fact the Sporting Life website still does.

I'm sure the record books will be able to count as well as I can, no concerns there (eventually, when someone has pointed out the obvious to them...)

| You can only score using the points avaliable at the time of the game, so congratulations to Thorman on the World Record. West still hold the record for tries in a match though.

| :smm6xpauMost in a Match The fastest hat-trick of tries scored from the start of a match is 6 min 54 sec by Chris Thorman (UK) playing for Huddersfield Giants against Doncaster Dragons in the semi-final of the Buddies National League Cup at Doncaster, South Yorkshire, UK on 19 May 2002.
Well done CT
