it was reported yesterday that souths have something like 18,000 members so im not surprised they get a crowd like this

if their form holds up they should get a few more over 30,000, especially tigers or dragons.

dally I'm aware of what goes on with free tickets and I applaud them, but if sl had the staduims and the free ticket oppertunities at the game last night for some of their big games we'd have seen a few 30,000 attendences.

Any way what I haven't noticed before is kids only pay $5 a great idea.

Given the crowd was 60-40 to the Doggies and most of them would have got in for free then yes it does make a heck of a difference. I'm sure if the KC was 40,000 and HKR fans got in for free then it would be full every derby. the other point is it doesn't help the clubs income (in the short term) as they are on set fee per appearance regardless of if 10,000 or 50,000 turn up.

It's a good crowd but lets not claim it to be something it isn't.

Every empty seat at an NRL or Superleague game is a lost opportunity.
Sorry, but how anyone can try to rip into a 30k gate for a Monday evening game is beyond me.

personally I wasn't ripping into it I was very proud to be part of such a atmosphere. My point was, again, that super league could have had a few 30,000 attendences.

Whenever you get Quins & Salford at home in the same round the gate avg is severly reduced.

As an aside Hull have now had 50 consecutive league and playoff games in a row with 10,000+ crowds now.

hey! i wasn't mocking it, just stating facts that that stadium often looks pretty empty even with a good crowd inside it, as we have seen at test matches - it was a great crowd, no complaints from me on that score

I would set a min expectation. For me if you can't get more than 5000 people to a game you have no place in the elite league of RL, simple as that.

I'd make it 10,000. 5,000 is embarrassing

The whole sport just needs to do more. The days of having a "Next game is Vs St Helens" poster on the wall near the ground as your advertising for the week are long gone. They are so many distractions at home and at other entertainment venues that league really does have to do more to get people interested. I'm not just referring to one off initiatives either, those are good starts but they need to be followed up.

The level of community involvement from SL sides is terrible. I live in Warrington and their on field success is their only advertising tool. Nothing has ever come through my door about the Wolfs and I've never seen them in town drumming up new supporters either. They've also never bothered to visit the school my son goes to, but Sale Sharks RU and Blackburn Rovers FC have. Locally and nationally it just needs to be ramped up. Richard Lewis needs to start being more proactive when it comes to sports coverage, handing content to newpapers, online sites and news stations. All of those outlets have massive audiences and given their willingness to cut costs, pre delivered and interesting content would be lapped up.

In 59 games at the stoop since Quins RL were born there have been 6 x 5k+ gates at home. 6 games in nearly 5 years. These include the first game v Saints and 3 matches that Wigan discounted travel down to London........and no gate over 5k at the stoop in 2009......so not really moving in the right direction aren't they with a current average of 2,770...
