Now, now Disco. Stop it. You know perfectly well that we can't be having anything sensible said to disturb the circle jerk on this forum about how awful (somebody else's) crowds are.

| Everyone knows we aren't the biggest supported club, so why our gates should be of any concern to anybody.... We got 4,000 fans for a Saturday night.... on TV.... On Valentines night... with no away support. Had we played say Wigan or Leeds and the gate was 8,000.... nobody would be questioning anything.
For the fool suggesting Widnes should have been in in front of us.... on what basis ?... average attendance or the fact that they have such a great history when it comes to running the business.
Fact is.... had the franchise process not been in place we would be here on merit anyway.... Salford deserve to be in SL.... get used to it.... we may be here for some time.

I was going to say that id we (Leeds) had been there an extra 3k or so would have been in the ground and no one would have mentioned the 1k below your last average rubbish. At the end of the day all but 3 or 4 will take less than 1k there and 3 or 4 will take around 3k or more. the rest will be somewhere inbetween giving an average of around 5-6k IMO.

| You have to be worried about that attendance. First game of the season is always an inflated crowd, so it looks as though Salford are going to have around 3,000 'homies'. It's not enough.
If they can get the stadium and 7,000 dial-a-fans then fine, but there is no way they should be in Super League without it.
And Celtic are going to have massive problems too, I can't see them winning a single game this season. One wonders what that would do the attendances in Wales, they could end up smaller than Salfords.
Neither club should be in Super League in their current state, it makes a mockery of the whole thing. But having said that the likes of Wakefield, Huddersfield and Saints don't belong in a 'Super' league either, so we'll have to fumble blindly onwards.

Not too sure about that. I think he's not far off the mark here.

Folk will have to pay to get into The Willows this seaon, hence tonights drop from last years 'average'.
Anyway, what a bloody good game it was. Yon lad Myler is a great talent for his age. Very enjoyable and a world away from the garbage shown on BBC1 an hour or so earlier.

| Freezing cold Saturday night that happens to be Valentines night playing a new team from the other end of the country could the scheduling have possibly been any worse, given all that I thought the crowd was ok.

| 17% up on Salford's last Saturday evening televised Superleague game (v Bradford). A step in the right direction no?
Nice to see that in 4 pages on this thread we've managed a handful of comments on the game. I think both teams showed that they can play good rugby in patches but need to up the intensity and consistency.

It was a most entertaining game, and I'd agree with your analysis. As Alexs Dad has already pointed out, Myler looks a great prospect. Celtic need to learn how to start a game, but showed some very good rugby when they finally warmed to the pace.
The atmosphere seemed good – and it was interesting to see Thierry Alibert have a very good, confident (he's not scared to make a call himself) game in charge after all the claims about how awful he is and how he can't speak the lingo etc.

I thought he did alright. When he reffed us last year he really did seem to rely on the touchies (or crowd) far too much but backed himself last night. Don't know how he'll go with the likes of Leeds and Saints where he'll have players in his face after every decision.

No the players don't do that!

My thoughts too.
They'll improve and pick up a few scalps along the way, same goes for Salford.

| Celtic will beat a few teams this year. They've got plenty of talent and play very attractive rugby when they throw the ball about.
I was surprised we got as many as 4,000 there last night. I'm a Salford season ticket holder but as soon as the game was switched to Valentine's Day my desire to remain attached to my wedding tackle exceeded my desire to attend the match.

4,000 clearly (as I'd be surprised if Celtic had 26 there*) which will, on better times and dates no doubt increase by a good few hundred maybe a thousand.
*that's not a dig at Celtic BTW.

| Questions need to be asked of Sky IMO. In the past few years we've been on TV at home against the likes of Harlequins, Catalans and Wakefield on a regular basis. Not only does it not present Salford in a good light but it doesn't present SL in a good light either. Clearly they want to meet their contractual obligations to the teams as early in the season as possible but some common sense wouldn't go amiss.
