I watched it and really enjoyed it, what a club we once were and those who remember it well you don’t know how luck you are. I’m not a young man I’m in my mid fifties and I’m to young to remember it all so shows how long ago it all was.

Needs to change and I think the team and the club know it. Whether they are capable I don’t know. They certainly have time to think at the moment.

The only bit I didn’t like was when the Trinity lad (forgot name) was telling Leeds lad that he must know that he didn’t deserve his winners medal. That was unfair and in sportsmanlike. I know the point he was trying to make but that individual did earn that medal end of. Whatever went wrong and it’s clear to see it did it wasn’t the Leeds players faults.

Kind of sums up what’s been wrong with Trinity ever since. This hard done by we are owed attitude, well we are not.

In recent times we’ve suffered from being a small club but in 1968 we were the giants not Leeds. No conspiracy just a very bad day at the office especially for one poor lad but that’s sport.

We need to move on, the Watersplash is not just ancient history it’s the kiind of history you shouldn’t dwell on its counter productive.

Instead remember the 3 CCups and 2 titles we did win in that glorious decade.

Fair points from your perspective, Vasty, but if you happened to be around at the time and a Trinity fan into the bargain, it's easier said than done. To reflect the times, the whole city was plunged into a depression. That's how much it meant. Some conspiracies are unfounded, others have elements of truth behind them. The "Watersplash" final fits into the latter category, I'm afraid.

That I’m not denying but it’s time to forget. Whilst I get what the Trinity player meant he did kind of rubbish the Leeds players achievement and to me that was unfair. It was probably the highlight of his career, in the same way Don Fox should not be remembered for slipping the Leeds team should not be tainted by a bad ref, they still played well.

Just had a look on the Leeds board and find it strange that no comments have been made. You can look at that game however you like but my impression is we were robbed and it took years for the club to get over it.
Many club goes through periods that are concidered a golden age and then have nothing for years the more recent that spring to mind are Widnes and Bradford .
Unfortunatly the game in more recent years have been dominated by 3 or 4 clubs who manage to keep the momentum going leaving all others to have an occasional victory and something to brag about.
My wush is that Trinity can manage to enter in to that winning bracket but i honestly live in hope along with supporteds of the majority of clubs..
It used to be great to attend matches in the Cc , players trophy and the flood light cup but those days are long gone

Just spoke to my dad about the years after 68 he says the lose rocked the whole foundation of the club, players left who were the spine of team then it went into freefall ,agree redscat the whole city was in depression ,in my dads words "it still bloody hurts"

It doesn’t register with Leeds fans for two very good reasons. One they won and history is written by the victors. Two they have won it many times since.

Trinity win it this year, if this year ever happens and you’ll soon forget it and we move on. Would be strangely Trinity to break our losing streak in a plague year.

This bit isn't quite true. Leeds were a big club.
They finished top of the league and won the challenge cup this year.
They followed but with the Championship the year after.
All their back line were internationals including a former British Lion at fullback.

Most of the current Leeds fans weren't born in 1968. There world started at the start of Super League.

I go back some 25 years before the start of SL but there are plenty on our board (and yours) who weren't born then, true.
I don't have a problem agreeing on the penalty try, I don't remember ever seeing one awarded where a try looked less like being scored or where a less obvious foul was committed. Should never have been given.
I've been lucky enough to see Leeds win a few finals since, in probably half there were turning points where a bad decision by the ref or a bad mistake by the opposition turned the game our way. You were unlucky to get stuck with one of each in that game.
FWIW I'd love to see you lot lift the CC, it'd actually give the comp a hell of a facelift.

It is best forgotten because it still hurts. Hopefully now, after resurrections last year and this, it can be put to bed.

Luckily whenever I think of that match I think of the thrilling last minute try the great Ken Hirst scored. I blank the rest out.

Maybe if Kenny Hirst hadn't scored the try Don Fox wouldn't have missed the kick.

Interestingly, in one of the finals highlighted on Saturday, there was a chance for Saints to win the game with a 3 on 1 overlap on their right.
If the centre takes the pass, they score and win the game.
As it happened he knocked on and Saint's lost.

It was the dramatic nature of the Watersplash final that makes it so compelling and it's still one of RL and Sports most memorable moments, albeit for the wrong reasons, as far as Trinity are concerned.

There were some absolute comedy gold moments in the game too.

Apart from swimming, you will never again see a major sporting event take place in such conditions, mind you, if they'd played till the end, the abandoned game against Widnes a few years ago would have come close.

Thank you. At last an acknowledgement from a Leeds fan of the injustice of the penalty try. If there were more like you, and indeed the same sort of attitude displayed from the Leeds players of the time, I wouldn't have had this grudge for all those years.

Remember that vividly, and we were a bit lucky. We were missing our usual kicker but Mick Redfearn put his hand up to take over the duties and kept us in the game.
Hardisty had been quiet all game but late on he got the one half chance he needed and it was game over.

Back to the watersplash final and it was never a penalty try.
I always seemed to remember that Don seemed to take an unnecessary long fast run at that missed kick but this was the first time I've seen it in slow motion. His standing foot seems to be farther away from the ball than normal. Tragic all the same.

On a different subject to the 1968 final. I have to mention how much I enjoyed those CC final games that the beeb showed on Saturday.
I don't know if I was wearing rose-tinted glasses or that the BBC had somehow "speeded up" the action by enhancing the tape, but the games seemed much faster and, dare I say, more entertaining than the games of today. A lot of the winger tries seemed to be scored over over a long distance rather than the short distance finishes nowadays. It hurts me to say it but I didn't quite realise just how good a player Robbie Paul was in his day.

Smith comes across as a complete booty.

It still makes me a little angry. Mainly because, despite what a great player Don Fox was, he was haunted by this moment to the end. He was never allowed to forget or escape from it. It was the first thing people mentioned whenever he met them. All his other achievements paled into insignificance in their eyes. Other sports people have made mistakes and, although they are reminded of it, it doesn't become the defining moment of their career. Maradonna's 'hand of god', the England soccer players who missed world cup penalties, etc. There was some perspective with the rest of their careers.

Anyway, it's all ifs, couldv'es, should'ves and wouldv'es now.
