Had problems in the past with aggressive stewards at HKR when away fans were in the golf stand.
However, hope all involved get a ban from all RL stadiums. Don't want these people in any stadium causing problems.

Good suggestion as long as Security Industry Association qualified its been done at some football clubs to good effect although it will cost as you'll need at least a dozen plus the stewards.

At Leeds there is a separate squad who's job is to intervene when there's violence. They usually wear green jackets as opposed to the stewards orange. The stewards are just there to help people find their seat/a space and stop the gangways getting crowded.
I think the separate squad are directly employed by Leeds whereas the other stewards are contracted out to G4S.

There is a similiar situation at Warrington. Stewards (employed by Warrington) wear yellow, "security" (contractor) wear orange. Go on the Warrington board after any trouble and you will often see comments about "aggressive stewards" when in fact its the security firm involved.....and then its often because they had to get involved.

How wonderful that, in the majority, we can behave so that we don't need a visible police presence.

Agreed, but having a heavier police presence costs a lot more than having stewards.

And I can also remember a real 'set to' under the stands at Elland Road for a CC semi final in the early 1980s when Wigan went onto win the game.

IIRC it was Wigan v York.

I would guess thats the best picture which shows them clearly.
I'm guessing they have other shots of them windmilling or whatever so dont need to show them to the public

Regarding the pictures, old enough to know better spring to mind.

Bit of a stretch to use this as a stick to beat Wakey with. I'm fairly certain that I've seen trouble involving fans of every club in Super League bar maybe Broncos and Catalans, and once with Fev- it's not acceptable but it's not confined to any one club.

The guy responsible for starting the fight wore a plain white shirt, I'm not sure if it's the guy on the stairs running back for more.

The Widnes following of 50 were having harmless banter with 5 or 6 close Wakey fans but the lad in a white shirt kept getting a bit touchy feely with them, he probably didn't mean any harm but in the end there was a bit of shoving and pushing and a few blows exchanged, seeing the lad outnumbered a nearby fan wearing an old blue away replica shirt ran in with a huge haymaker, the rest is history.

Yet again Key Security could have prevented the flare up, half of the Northstand were watching events unfold why not the stewards? There was a smaller incident amongst the Widnes fans 15 minutes or so before the brawl so why didn't Key Security position staff there after like they did at the Hull FC game after trouble had flared up at the exact same area. Stewards have to Police the toilet area now as both home and away fans use them and many are worse for wear.

It's hard to be too cynical regarding those older fans who ran in as Stewards were taking a long time to get the situation under control and the Wakey lads involved were horribly outnumbered. One bloke near us who went down said he saw women and children being hit.

Vasty - as Fully points out it clearly states "This guy on the steps had been continually goading the Widnes fans and had to be escorted out of the bottom pen by stewards". Somebody must know this guy ?

I believe they already know this guy from what I'm told. What they want is witnesses for any court case I'm guessing - not all the people in that photo are connected to each other or the violence.

If I were you I wouldn't throw stones as I've witnessed just as much violence from Leeds fans at Sheadingley as I have Wakefield fans at BV - but I suspect you turn a blind eye on your own turf.

As for Leeds, I have seen problems in the past but a long time has past since I last saw any especially at Headingley

But don't worry Vasty, there is no problem at Wakefield, really, there isn't....

In what way did I defend them, they have not been found guilty of anything as yet - basic rule of British law



They have been asked to come forward and give any info they have as far as I read it - they have not been asked to give themselves in to the Police.
