| Quote ="TrentBarrett"It would also make the Welshies at Wigan eligible. I think it's more a southern hemisphere team v England game, rather than the Rest of The World v England, but Brough out performing Sinfield and proving McBanana is a incompetent fool would be a great spectacle.'"
Presumably that is why they don't have players who could also play for England playing for the Exiles. It should be England -v- Super League, then any player of any nationality not selected by McNamara would be eligible.
It would give it an extra bit of spice, with 5 or 6 players rejected by McNamara playing against his selections.

| Underwhelmed by this announcement.
No doubt the usual media suspects will now be proclaiming England's World Cup campaign dead and buried now Brough has made himself ineligible

| Just a thought on Brough choosing Scotland, if Sinfield gets injured, who are England going to have as their kicker. And I don't mean goal kicker

Indeed. But he's thrown a paddy after being left out of the Autumn Internationals last year, a year where he wasn't in form at the end of the season.
If he hadn't thrown his paddy then maybe he'd be in the next squad picked.

You can add Joe Wardle to that squad too, he played for them last year.

| Myler has been brilliant for Wire this season and from what I have seen of Brough and Myler I would chose Myler, and with Briers out for so long his kicking game has been great as well. Also as said earlier I have always questioned his temperament, he seems to be shunted around quite a bit from club to club Hull, Wakefield, Cas ??, Hudd.

Brough has the talent and is in good form but you do have to question why none of the 'top' clubs have been in for him when he has been available due to one reason or another, what were the reason for him leaving castleford and then wakefield, didn't he get booted out of Wakefield or is my memory failing me?

| He wasn't 'available' from Wakefield, we offered a transfer fee/deal for him which was reluctantly accepted.
He came to Huddersfield because we had him as a transfer target and got our man.
Since he has been with us his attitude, temperament and all round game has improved massively, hence why he got given our captaincy last year as even though the club was falling apart, Brough was the one who was trying to keep it all together. The problems he had in the past have gone.

Good on him, he'll be a great asset to the Scotland set up then where he doesn't have to play 'second fiddle' to anyone.
Also my apologies it was Hull where was booted out from. He left Wakefield just after the start of a season I believe.

| "I understand that can cause a bit of confusion in a World Cup year," said McNamara, who persuaded Brough to switch allegiance from Scotland to England when he included him in the ETS in 2011. "But again, we want players who really want to play for England."
found this quote from McNamara from March
maybe the last sentence has some clue as to the issue?

How do you know?
What we do know is Brough has made sure he definitely wont get picked.
Some more quotes from Mcnamara just today on the BBC website, it all sounds to me like Brough wanted to be first choice or not in at all which is not what Id want from a squad member in the England side.
"You will have to clarify that with Danny" he said. "You'll need to ask him what his plans are, but I only want players who are 100% committed to what we are doing."
"That's an irrelevant question. It seems he's not convinced what he wants to do but good luck to him on whatever he decides."

Don't remotely suggest otherwise
Yeah, Brough played last year. In what, one game? Then was dropped like a hot potato and has been made to feel very unwelcome since

Has he? where has McNamarra said Brough definitely wouldn't feature in the world cup squad?
He's said he only wants players that are 100% committed, and rightly so.
He wasnt dropped like a hot potato. Danny's form at the back end of last season didn't warrant him getting picked at number 6, did you not witness Sinfields form at the back end of the season, you know when Leeds won the GF from 5th.
Brough I believe was also playing with an injury near the end of the campaign.
He's spat his dummy and made sure he wont play for England.

And on the basis of Sinfields form he should not be near the squad either along with some others , YET certain players seem to get picked regardless of what they have done and form has never been an issue for Mcnamara.

I think for a proven player such as Sinfield, whose performance hinges greatly on motivating and leading a team not just the core rugby skills, form is not so much an issue.
Don't get me wrong, it's still a concern, but you don't drop the captain just because he's had 4 or 5 mediocre club games.
On the flip side, I'd hope a less proven/successful player with fewer traits to their game wouldn't get the nod if their form slipped massively.
It's to easy to say "he's not playing well, he shouldn't be picked', when in reality there are more factors to take into consideration.
