| Quote ="bewareshadows"One thing I will say is that the official stats this year have been dodgy across the board.'"
Across the board? Really? I'd suggest a small handful of SL attendances have appeared dodgy, just as they did last season. I've listed the SL fixtures this season where the SL attendances appear dodgy or where there are inconsistencies as quoted by different agencies.
[uRound 1[/u: Hull V Catalans was declared as 11,400 (dodgy) by several sources including the RFL, Skysports, Superleague and Sportinglife websites. Loverugbyleague, Hull Daily Mail website and the Hull FC club itself declared the attendance as 10,178.
[uRound 3[/u: Bradford V London ended up with three different attendances. Loverugbyleague declared it at [url=http://www.bradfordbulls.co.uk/news/article/8936/bulls-bag-second-straight-win5,410 as did the Bradford Bulls club on it's official website[/url along with the Bradford Telegraph & Argus, though it has to be said that the Bradford Bulls club also declared the attendance as [url=http://www.bradfordbulls.co.uk/fans/report/99255,100[/url. The RFL, Skysports, Superleague, Sportinglife and the BBC declared it as 5,100 (dodgy). The BBC also declared it as 8,500 (even dodgier) on one of their pages and 5,100 on another page.
[uRound 3[/u: Catalans V Leeds was quoted by every RL source as 6,300. JonB95 trawled the net to discover a single quote of 8,500 on youtube and decided to go with that figure.
[uRound 6[/u: Catalans V Huddersfield was quoted as 6,600 by every RL source apart from League Express and it's match reporter Ricky Wilby who claimed it was announced as 6,510.
[uRound 9[/u: Warrington V Widnes was quoted by every RL source as 10,500 but the Warrington Wolves club upgraded it later to 10,750. All the other sources still quoting 10,500.
Quote ="bewareshadows"The low attendance at bradford was tweeted but not published.'"
Absolute rubbish as I've demonstrated above.
Quote ="bewareshadows"It's one thing to put up attendances, I would have no problem doing this myself up or down, but if the usual sources are not reliable then what are we to do.'"
Make a rational judgement call and select one as opposed to selecting one in order to suit an agenda?
Quote ="bewareshadows"Even I would get fed up with William questioning the figures I used each week.'"
Aww diddums! I put up with sundry SL Moonies questioning my attendance figures throughout last season because they didn't like the truth along with heaps of personal abuse thrown in for good measure. Did I spit the dummy and quit producing the attendance figures?
Quote ="bewareshadows"I'm sure Catalan went with one match having 3 differing attendances. Well it's not the OP's fault or who evers fault if the independant reporters can't get the figures right.'"
Incorrect, it had one quoted attendance of 6,300. The OP trawled the net and discovered an even dodgier quote of 8,500 on youtube and decided to go with that figure.
Quote ="bewareshadows"If I get a moment in the next few weeks I will bang em up and catch up. but quite simply I will be going with just the weekly rounds ie round 1 v round 1. I'm not going to look for equivalent fixtures as come the end of the season they all even out. An I would probably exclude the MM weekend given the arguments over double headers in the WC and just treat it as a stand alone fixture set against last years stand alone fixture.'"
I'll post the current attendance figures up to and including Round 10 as a one-off in the next 24 hours or so after the completion of today's fixtures as a gesture of goodwill. However, I'm not prepared to produce figures each week on an ongoing basis only for my attendance threads to be locked due to cry-baby, dummy-spitting pressure from the usual SL Moonie suspects in here.
Happy Easter BTW

| What you need to know about attendances is that whatever the Press Association publish, BBC, Sky, Sporting Life all publish it too, even if it's erroneous.
Only if PA issue an amendment will these probably be changed

I don't generally go down the line of quotathones, as they do get tedious. But
across the board well I was meaning that not just the attendances, as I said some of the match stats have also been questionable. Therefore across the board (meaning not down to just the attendances)
I take the part about Bradford on board and yes I am wrong it was published.
I have picked my stats from
www.rugbyleagueproject.org/seaso ... mmary.html
for both season apart from the last 3 rounds in 2014 as they have not published them yet and the Bradford Cas game as for some reason they have missed it in 2014.
Those came from
www.superleague.co.uk/
I have not picked them for any other reason than I've always used them when looking at historical data. They maybe right or wrong but I am not picking them to put the figures up or down.
Fine I'm wrong again Catalan had 2 figures not 3.
People are more than welcome to question anything I post (as they do) my point is I would not be bothered to spend hours arguing why I am using one site over another. If they don't like them they are more than welcome to put out what ever figures they like.
Thanks for taking the time to put out your own.

| Always believe the figure from the club. which, in this case, is 5,410. (and from all pictures I saw, the crowd was nowhere near 8k)

1) You will know that once an attendance is published (dodgy or not) it is used by all 'RL sources' - BBC, Sky Sports, Sporting Life, etc etc. - the only figure that came from the Catalans club themselves via their official youtube channel was 8,500. If they would just confirm the attendance then we can settle this ridiculous issue. As it is, I have no reason to use 6,300 as the Catalans club have given absolutely no indication of this figure.
2) Amended this to 6,510 in my figures as the Dragons have not even given an attendance figure here.

Mate, both of those sites are not trustworthy for attendances as they just copy their figures from other sites - I would guess Sporting Life or BBC. Both of these sites still have the Halifax v Swinton crowd as 200, which just shows how trustworthy they are.

| Well like I say people wanted the thread starting again. I'm happy to bang some figures up if people want it, but I'm not going to be checking them for how good they are. It would be pointless as I would not know which would be a more valid or trustworthy site.
If someone else wants to take on the figures I'm not overly precious.

| In the next 10 minutes, I shall be posting the current SL attendance stats.
For those of a delicate and precious persuasion who may have issues with that, feel free to stay clear of this thread because plenty of grown-up's are interested in viewing SL attendances and discussing them accordingly. This thread does not need your constant moonie-esque wailing, bellyaching and crying wolf to the mods in order to get threads locked.
Tick, tock, tick, tock... the stopwatch is now running.

| [uDodgy SL attendances 2014[/u
[uRound 1[/u: Hull V Catalans was declared as 11,400 (dodgy) by several sources including the RFL, Skysports, Superleague and Sportinglife websites. Loverugbyleague, Hull Daily Mail website and the Hull FC club itself declared the attendance as 10,178. The judgement call I made on this one was to select the officially announced attendance of 10,178 by the club and it's local newspaper.
I've selected the 5,410 attendance on the basis of it actually being officially announced at the ground on the day.
[uRound 3[/u: Catalans V Leeds was quoted by every RL source as 6,300. JonB95 trawled the net to discover a single quote of 8,500 on youtube and decided to go with that figure. I'm not about to replace one dodgy attendance of 6,300 with an even more dodgier attendance of 8,500 based on a youtube video when it's the only source of such crap. Every other source says 6,300. I watched the game on TV when I still had Sky and there didn't appear to be very many in attendance (significantly less than 6,300 IMO). I'm not happy with 6,300 but a judgement call has to be made so 6,300 it is.
[uRound 6[/u: Catalans V Huddersfield was quoted as 6,600 by every RL source apart from League Express and it's match reporter Ricky Wilby who claimed it was announced as 6,510. One single source for the 6,510 figure isn't enough, therefore I've begrudgingly selected the 6,600 figure. Majority rules in this instance.
[uRound 9[/u: Warrington V Widnes was quoted by every RL source as 10,500 but the Warrington Wolves club upgraded it later to 10,750. All the other sources still quoting 10,500 and I'm sticking with that for no other reason that I really do not want to replace one dodgy attendance figure with another. Majority rules in this instance.
Those are the reasons for the judgement calls I've had to make on the dodgy SL attendances this season.
SL attendances now coming shortly...

Unfortunately, the Loverugbyleague website does not concur as it did in the Hull V Catalans instance from Round 1, therefore majority rules in this instance given the number of sources going with the unsatisfactory figure of 10,500. Moreover, there's something rather comforting about selecting 10,178 in favour of a dodgy 11,400. There is nothing comforting about having to select one dodgy attendance figure of 10,750 over sundry others claiming a dodgy 10,500.
Your agenda in this instance is duly noted however.
PS: That RL publication you used to work for which is based in Brighouse has also gone with the dodgy 10,500.

So you choose (your judgement call) the club figure and the local paper figure for Hull v Catalans Rd 1 (lower figure)
You ignore (your judgement call) the club figure and the local paper figure for Warrington v Widnes Rd 9 (lower figure)
okay, good logic.
I never worked for any Brighouse publication only regional and national newspapers. Crowds are down - we know that - no-one is pretending otherwise. You won't get those hours of your life back documenting the bl*****g obvious.

Logic does appear to have escaped you... or perhaps your obtuseness in this instance is deliberate? The logic applied is that I'm not prepared to replace one dodgy attendance (10,500) with another dodgy attendance (10,750). This is a radically different situation to replacing one dodgy attendance (11,400) with a more realistic attendance (10,17icon_cool.gif.

Crowds are down marginally this year, yet some had been pretending otherwise a little earlier in this thread. Thanks for your continued interest in attendances. Don't worry about me and my life... my summer off-season is rapidly approaching

The fact remains that the thread was started to counter Billy's 2013 thread.....as soon as the attendances dropped, the updates dried up......I have no doubt that when the attendances rise, so will the faithful.

Which one of you two is Bonnie and which one is Clyde? Or do you take turns wearing the dress?

People who were saying that the WC would have a knock-on effect on SL crowds were being absolutely deluded. For a start, very few of the WC stars were actually playing in SL week in week out.
The quality of the football is dropping and when that happens people will pick and choose games. The new system coming in will see people pick and choose even more.
If this sort of pattern is replicated next year, then Hull KR, Salford and Catalans would be looking ahead to games with Doncaster, Leigh, Dewsbury etc. How is that going to get people through the door?

Yes but Doncaster,Leigh and Dewsbury fans will be looking ahead to games against HKR,Salford and Catalans, so things balance out, providing of course your fan base is loyal, not just SL centric

Yes I can see that, but the sad fact is that those SL clubs secured in the bottom four will see crowds dwindle in the last few weeks before the split. So in effect, Doncaster, Leigh and Dewsbury fans might be looking forward to those games but won't be seeing those clubs at their best - which is a real shame.
Take Bradford now as an example, by 20 games in their home attendances may be down to 4-5k per game. If they could only muster that for Hull KR, Widnes, Warrington etc - how many will go for the second group of 8 games against Doncaster and Leigh? The fact it all takes place in the same season will always impact on the interest.

Interesting to see in all these views of it being the league format/player loss to NRL/recession etc,......how it can sometimes come down to the simple and basic.....how well is your team playing, note the increase at Castleford vs the decrease at Warrington.
London/Bradford/Wakey is what we expected.
If they look less and less likely as Playoff contenders what will the Salford average end up as?
Catalans continue to be poor and questions need to be asked about what's happening with them before they slide further back.
