It is fair that a journalist has a job in journalism. However it isn’t fair how he abuses his position by writing amateur articles on a professional publication. Don’t we need professional articles for professional publication?

The point is, he’s become far too complacent and it’s this complacency that has allowed him to write the dribble that he writes. No one can deny how journalism has declined in recent times and it’s all thanks to the likes of Marc Padgett hanging around because of what he’s done in the past. His job is secured till retirement which is a good thing, but is it really fair?

Good journalism warrants professional publication.

Amateur journalism warrants amateur publication.

And not

Amateur journalism warranting a professional publication like in Marc Padgett’s case.

The difference being of course that most of us wouldn't consider ourselves qualified to build a wall and would therefore be happy to get someone skilled in to do it.

I suspect most of us could knock up an article of equal quality to those which appear under Padgett's name, but it wouldn't be seen by anything like the same number of people because we don't have his privileged position in terms of access to an audience.

I don't understand why any business reliant on selling to customers would want to alienate and insult a section of those customers. Seems a very strange marketing model to me!

People will read the independent just because it’s the independent regardless of what content is published inside of it. I think it’s something you can call a bad habit you can’t get out of.

My overall point proven. I was nearly short listed for the comedy tent at Glastonbury last year because I was with someone who puts people forward for that kind of stuff. Right people, but with them at the wrong time of year. I still got to dance in the BBC Leeds Radio studios anyhow for consolation.

I suppose it depends how Padgett sees his role. If it's to increase the hits on his site then he has probably succeeded. His articles seem a bit tongue in cheek and unless he regularly singles out RL there is no real harm. If he takes the micky out of everyone aren't we being a bit OTT in biting?

It might also be worth noting that he seemed to refer to the launch event of the NRC as being less enjoyable than sticking pins in his eyes, rather than the games themselves …

lets face it the rfl are not very good at these things.
i remember a lot of people on here last year, giving the rfl grief after the launch of the CC.
cant remember what happened but it was rubbish.
