How does the joint academy work in regards to signing a player? Is it first come first serve sort of thing?

The older ones were ring-fenced to the prospective clubs they had signed for prior to the merger of the academy. I think the 17's now were originally meant to be done as a draft system, but not sure if that has transpired. Connor Wynne was the first player to be signed from the non-ringfenced players and believe me, he is going to be some player. Same with Mikey Lewis, both very talented players

| Luke Hooley - A lad I'm really impressed with, played for us in the 19's and then was loaned out to Dewsbury and Oldham where by all accounts ripped it up. Got a bit of pace behind him and can also kick goals, very well rounded already at a very early age.
Excited to see whats to come.

You can add Kershaw to that though it would take one hell of an injury crisis fir a winger to get a break at Wakefield these days. Like the look of Yusif Adin but early days.

How olf is Will Oaks? I'm assuming he's the one that used to be in Wakefields Academy - and that seems a long time ago.

Good point.
I didn't comment on Kershaw as I haven't seen too much of him but looks to have settled in well with the squad (going from Instagram and social media), the lads really seem to have taken well to him. Adin looks a big lad as well.
Hope to see them feature in the preseason, perhaps Boxing Day! Which seems to be approaching rapidly lol!

Yeah, he's still just 19, which for me is pretty scary because it seems ages ago since I used to watch him play down Eastmoor but it's only about 5 years ago.

| Widnes
Ollie Ashall(full back): Broke into the first team last season and looks to have cemented his place at FB#
Owen Buckley(winger): Made a handful of appearances on the wing impressing every time
Ryan Ince(winger): Has played for a season or two on the wing , signed on again for next season.
Joe Lyons(stand off): Stepped in at stand off in the middle 8's producing some good performances.
Ted and Jay Chapelhow(Prop): Both 22 or 23 but have been regulars in the Widnes team since coming through
Owen Farnwroth (Prop): Made a couple of appearances but looks very handy for his age
There are 4-5 others who are stepping up this year aswell as Danny Craven and Tom Gilmore who came through the academy but are now 25
We have a wealth of good talent coming through at Widnes but they need support around them and quality which we've struggled with massively.

Been reading this forum for a couple of months now and I know there was a Widnes fan a while back who couldn't speak highly enough about Ted and Jay Chapelhow.

They’re okay and will make it for Widnes in the championship. Unsure about superleague.
If he stays fit, the one who stands out is Ollie Ashall Bott

Louis Senior and Innes Senior, featured a little bit last season for Huddersfield. I do not believe they are any relation to Keith Senior.

At 22? The Chapelhow brothers are hardly Academy players anymore - they are the same age as Tom Johnstone.

Which is exactly why I said they’ve been regulars SINCE coming through the ranks, not that they are coming through.
They’ve only been around a couple of years max.

A pretty good assessment there IMO
8 very promising Leeds Rhinos U19 players have been selected in the Yorkshire academy squad to take on the Aussie Schoolboys at the Mend a Hose Jungle on Wednesday 28th November
Tyler Dupree, Tom Holroyd, Owen Trout, Muizz Mustapha, Corey Johnson, Louis McConnell, Jack Broadbent and Callum McCllellend although Harry Newman strangely hasn't been selected but i'd guess that he will be selected when England play the Aussie Schoolboys
Of those IMO Tom Holroyd,Corey Johnson,Callum McClelland and Harry Newman are all top drawer
But IMO all of the other players mentioned above could either make it at the Rhinos or at other SL clubs as they are all very talented players and as is always the case it is how they progress when they move up from academy level and start playing against men.
Morgan Smithies always looked class when I watched him play for both Siddal and Wigan and he looks to have a great future in the game (He also isn't selected in the Yorkshire side but will definitely play for England Academy)

Its not penny pinching. The amount both clubs sunk into their individual academies is been sunk into the joint academy. It was more about the shallow player pool in the area.
