| Quote ="right said father ted"It is in Salford RLFCs interest to market the game along with the council and stadium company. Last night was a fantastic opportunity to sell the game and the stadium to the wider Salford/Trafford/Manchester public. The vibrant occassion would entice people back, something that has been lacking on a match day for the last two seasons.
You are right about responsibility but you need to look at the bigger picture. An example. The stadium company are responsible for traffic management on the car park so allow all the pedestrians out of the stadium as a priority to vehicles. As soon as they are off the stadium area their interest disappears. Last night I walked in from Peel Green with a group including children. The motorway roundabout was dangerous with no footpath on what I would describe as the 'safer' side of the junction. Walking away from the stadium there was a flow of traffic going on to the M60 slip road while pedastrians were trying to cross safely. Most vehicles, as is the norm now a days, didnt bother indicating and were driving very quickly. We waited a good 3 mins before crossing. This may not be the responsibility of the stadium/club/council but in the wider scheme of things it does not encourage people to come back. This was a sporting 'event'. Most events encourage pedestrians and make sensible arrangements for them to get to the stadium safely.'"
As has already been said, the club went as far as it could but it can't do everything, and the stadium owners did diddly squat to promote the event. In that context, 6000 doesn't seem a bad turn out.
I don't think any Salford fans are happy with the way the stadium is managed, but I really don't think you can expect someone from the stadium to hold your hand all the way back to your car. Once you're off the site, you're no longer their responsibility. If anything more than that was needed, the organisers would have to pay for it, and the organisers were the RFL and the stadium management company, not Salford RLFC.
As for that junction, though, I walk that way every home game and it's an accident waiting to happen. It needs either a pelican crossing or police traffic control on match days. The club have been very open with the public and have held Q&A sessions, so, even though it's not directly their responsibility, I'll ask about it if they do another one.

think the England game at Hull is close to sold out. No idea about the game in Ireland though.
I'm looking forward to the game tonight, hope there is close to 20k there

No need. Leigh have done that job for us. When many of the newbies from the 10k who attended are looking to watch top level rugby I'm sure the doctor will be happy to welcome them.

I hopefully will attend the Walkden Gateway Q & A next Thursday so if I can make it I will ask.
Agreed the 6000 is a decent turn out. The stadium company bid to host a world cup match and beat off competition. Its a shame they havent put in anywhere near the effort other venues have. The council/club/stadium company have invested a lot of money and if they do not work together and communicate we have no future. I dont expect the stadium to hold my hand back to my car/home/pub but I would appreciate everyone working in tandem. Weve got G4S overkill on the lead up to the ground and diddly squat when you reach the main road.

It's difficult to know what anyone involved in the stadium could do about it though. Once you're off the stadium premises, you're on your own. I think it really needs a police presence, not only on the dangerous junction on to the motorway, but on the first part of the road away from the stadium in that direction (outside the reclamation place), where the pavement is narrow but is where we all spill out on to.
I think we just have to accept that, for the time being, access to the stadium is crap. A lot of us had misgivings about the location because of its 'one road in, one road out' vibe, but we accepted it because the stadium was going to be like something out of a sci-fi movie. Then we got the 'kid on work experience at the architects' design, so we're just left with the misgivings. Let's hope the new road helps, particularly if Marwan's plans for total world domination for the club and Disneyland Salford on the land surrounding the stadium come to fruition.

A delusional bite at that. Leaving a resurgent Leigh aside, if you are going to take your pick from Wire, Wigan, Saints, or Salford in the area - its hardly a tough decision, is it? No matter how long Koukash wants to flog the dead horse. Quite simply, "Salford" has zero cache and no matter how many big name signings you have, it is very difficult to acquire it. Change the name to Manchester and it might be a different proposition.

Anyway, back on topic what crowd are we expecting tonight?

The fact is that Salford have the lowest WC gate trophy and are consistently the worst heartland supported club who don't produce players either

I don't know where you got that idea, but the tram doesn't run to the Trafford Centre. It might do by about 2020, and the plans include the line going to the port being built next to the stadium and a tram stop at the stadium.

Quite right, Leigh averaged 4500 and the lowest crowd was 3300 in thate fateful SL season.
Not bad when you get pasted week in and week out.
Now remind me, what are Salfords gates, especially with a half decent team and a great coach last season ?
Was your lowest gate (ie London I presume) as low as 3300 ??
