Can't speak for other clubs' imports as I only get to see them on Sky or when they play Wire - but for me Wire's "best" overseas signing of the past decade (I would have said Langer if you'd said last 15 years) is M. Monaghan. While the "best value for money" overseas signing was Chris Hicks.

Jamie Lyon, Pat Richard, M Monaghan, Trent Barrett, Vainakolo, Henry/Robbie Paul to name but a few in the top bracket.

Wigan fans are mentioning Barrett, but from outide looking in, I'd say Lam was better.

Lam played in a far better trophy winning team. Barrett carried our team for two season. Individually he was better than Lam. He was 30 when he went home to the NRL, he still gained a starting spot for an NRL club and walked straight back into origin.

Barrett in a good super league team would have been frightening.

Trent Barrett was for us what Rangi Chase currently is for Castleford - a one man team.

Adrian Lam however is the best halfback I've seen play for Wigan in the Super League era.

I'd have to say Jason Smith for us. The guy was pure class.

Didn't the majority of the team Barrett played with go on to win the competition in 2010? How were they not a good SL team?

So I would certainly not say Barrett was playing in a strong team. The biggest difference of all turned out to be the coaching set up. Madge and Wane worked wonders with what they had, and made most of the players what they are today. whilst under Noble the players were not making the most of what they had.

This is a friend of a friend said thing...but he said the reason why Trent left Wigan early was because of the culture the club was in at the time. i.e the drinking not training correctly. Imagine what would happen if he worked under Madge, but also would Sam of come through?

In Superleague as a whole i'd say Lyon or Barrett, loved watching them both

Yes, we was told from the horses mouth himself (Noble) during the 2008 World Cup that in 2009 Sam would get at least 10 games.

One of my fave overseas players was Brett Dallas, ran his blood to the water every match and was a very good winger for us and had blistering pace.

I'll put a vote in for Brett Hodgson if i can.......came to Huddersfield and risked his high reputation from Oz to play for an unfancied team that was trying to break into the top 6-8, played out of his skin and won man of steel in his 1st season.....and even at 30 something still managed to land a contract and perform superbly for one of the top teams.

Other than someone that my team benefited from it has to be Pat Richards.

Not a particularly flashy player so he probably flew under the radar compared with the likes of Lyon, but I would argue Richard Swain was more important to his team than anyone.

Not read the whole thread, so not sure if anyone has mentioned Darren Albert yet? Loads of praise for Lyon and what he did for Saints, but Albert has to be up there with the best wingers during the last 10 years!!

Mainly from fans sticking to players from recent eras.

Vainikolo (IMO) was the most feared, if not the best winger in SL (never mind imports), and that includes the likes of Richards, Albert, King and Hall etc. Like Lyon, Vainikolo also came over at his peak, which distances those two from many of the other contenders being discussed in the thread.

He was unreal. A beast. A winger that could single handedly turn a game. A shame for Super League he went to union.

Maybe, but his knees appeared to have gone by then. We had the best of him, for sure.
