A game in which Leeds could potentially have secured 1st place isn't a big game anymore?
I also find it funny that the people who say Hall has to be in the team because of past performances think that this only applies to the wing positions and not the FB position. FB must be picked on form but wing on past performance.

My point being that a high scoring winger from a 'popular' team at or near the top of the league shouldn't be a gimme, Charnley was a prime example of that. Burgess whilst great against lacklustre SL defences and scoring plenty of tries quite possibly in the same way Charnley wasn't, might not be up to spec against the likes of NZ and Australia. Can you not see the similarities between the two situations?

No they couldn't have secured top spot and Leeds clearly weren't fired up for it, for whatever reason. Not to take anything away from Catalans, who were on fire and would've beaten anyone yesterday, but I get the feeling Leeds have been taking it easy in training since Wembley. Fully expect them to ramp it up for next week and the semis though.

Hall's pace is no different, he's never been a paced winger.
And no, others can't finish just as well as him.

| McGillivray brings the ball out of defence better than any other winger in the game including Hall.
His 4 tries today against Warrington make him the Leagues top try scorer.
Defensively I reckon he hits harder than most forwards and is positionaly very sound
He's head and shoulders better than Charnley and Burgess.

| I wouldn't say he's head and shoulders above Burgess. Over 100m no one would catch Burgess and under the high ball he's faultless now. If Burgess hadn't been injured/rested he would've run away with top try scorer.
I do hope we see McGilvaray in the England team but not at the expense of a 20 year old who I reckon will go on to become one of the best English wingers for decades.

100% agree. Best post on this thread. Burgess is the future and already is the best winger in the comp.
Mcgillvary should be given a chance to show the players you can get in on form. You will be given a shot. I think it's certainly improve super league.

| Ask Warrington if they don't think Jerry's defence is good?
They were petrified of him today and poor penny is probably still quaking and refusing to get on the bus home

Burgess is quicker and marginally better under the high ball, that's it!
Playing on the wing is about so much more than that in the modern game. If you're looking for your back three to bring the ball back then Hall, McGillveray and Hardaker at Full Back is the way to go.
In international RL it's a rarity for a winger to score tries without having to beat one or many defenders especially from close in, Hall and McGillveray are the best in that respect because of their sheer size and power.

| 4 more and another all-round performance from Jerry today, some of the hits he put in had Wire players wondering what day it was.....i am biased but, maybe Burgess aprt, there isn't anyone in this league to get anywhere near Jerry McGillvary form wise at the moment...his stats and his performances are backing it up...he cannot do anymore at the moment. I'd love to see him have a crack at the Aussies and Kiwis !!

which is exactly what Jerry did today, at one point he looked to have just crashed through 3 or 4 warrington defenders!
as Daz says, on current form, there isn't a winger to touch him in SL.
and also cudjoe is back to his best now, he was devastating today.
good for us certainly, could also be a boost for England too.
on another note, some of the England regulars were embarrassing for wire today!

| Westwood, clark, ratchford were shocking
as for penny, wheeler, monaghan, sandow, and "Sh*t Eorl crabtree" their bank managers must be absolutely wetting themselves!
feel a bit sorry for wire fans, well the long standing ones, they looked a complete shambolic bunch of misfits today and had we put 70 on them it wouldn't have been harsh, apart from a 10 minute spell where child gave them a chance by sending a man off for us and giving some questionable decisions to make it a bit easier for them, they never looked like troubling the try line, i fact im surprised they didn't faint at the sight of it.

How can you tell if Wire were so bad?
I'd probably look like England standard playing against this Wire team.

| It's fantastic for England with the choices McNamara has.
Hall has been a regular and always plays well for England.
Briscoes been playing well since his return from injury and played really well in the CCF.
Jerrys the form winger and top try scorer.
Burgess is the future, with tons of pace and try scoring ability.
Then you have Lineham, Charnley and Makinson etc
at this moment in time I would choose Hall & Jerry but with the big games (Semis and Final) coming up, everything could easily change.

Although Briscoe has speed, I don't rate him as much as the other three.

hall is strong near the line but a bit one dimensional. burgess is quick but still has a way to go to prove he's top quality and mcgilvray has had a great season but needs to do it consistently for a few seasons. briscoe is pretty quick, exceptionally strong, has a great offload, backs up better than most wingers and defensively is very good. He's so good he even looked special on the wing for Hull which takes some doing. I honestly don't think any of the others would have scored all of those 5 tries he did at wembley

Mcgillvary needs to perform over a few seasons. Is 20 tries plus for the last three seasons not consistency?
