wigan are prob the best organised team i have seen for years. everyone knows there place and job and they have been a bloody good side. there is no doubt lima, who i really rate as a go forward prop, does have a questionable 'tackling' technique and i'm not sure how he has escaped lengthy bans.
also with hoffman and coley gone players will be be able to keep there heads on there shoulders again.

but really the fault lies with the spineless RFL. if they clamped down and hammered players, from all teams not just wigan, then deliberate foul play would stop almost overnight

Speaking to some of the parents at St Judes last weekend even they are concerned about the technique and don,t want it creeping into the young amateur game.

I didn't like him purely because he was a smaller, slitty mouthed version of Arsene wenger. Never saw anything wrong with any of his players, was the only man on the planet that saw nothing wrong with Hocks gouging or other incidents. He wasn't even a good coach, the last month has proved that. Without the RFL and referees on his side he relinquinshed the Champions title without so much as a whimper. When public opinion forced the referees to enforce the rules Wigan looked a very average team. Wigan are a one man outfit and when the aussies smash him to pieces this winter they won't even be that.

And can you imagine if he comes badged up as "Man of Steel" against the aussies, you might as well stick a fairground coconut on his head....right now.

Absolutely agree - Maguire has poisoned SL with a brand of rugby that may well have won some games, but has made an unpleasant and unedifying spectacle; several well respected coaches, countless observers and a group of players can't all be wrong. A lot of the criticism of Maguire is way OTT. He brought in an NRL-style defence to Wigan, which has worked wonders for the side. I have no problem with a coach playing to the rules with the intention of winning.

So is winning okay if it means you are likely to maim an opposition player? As Mick Potter said, most clubs would have an ethical opposition to that.

You've seen plenty of tackles, but you have no idea as to what the tackler intended to do at that moment - none of us do. Parents are quite correct to be ''concerned about the technique'', but that isn't to say that it's a deliberate attempt to injure people, more that the technique itself can be dangerous if not carefully and properly managed and applied.

Are you seriously suggesting that Maguire has trained the likes of Lima and Hoffman to 'carefully and properly manage and apply' their tackle technique?! That's the most ridiculous statement I've heard throughout this discussion and is not in any way borne out by the evidence that's before our very eyes on a weekly basis.

Two men hold up the tackled player - a third man barrels into his standing leg with no regard to the possible consequences; there is nothing careful or managed about that, as you well know.
