They failed to sufficiently promote the game. They should have known that Salford's fan base would never be enough to make up for the lack of effort on the marketing team's behalf.

| Would've took 6k before the tournament began. As mentioned however the bar has been raised since the tournament began with crowds elsewhere. It seems the north west RL fans prefer LSV to Salford Stadium judging by the attendance figures.

| Let's be honest, that was a decent enough crowd tonight. It only seems relatively poor in comparison to some of the other amazing attendances achieved so far.

Not that I'm biased(!), but I was on the back row of the South Stand tonight and the view is nowhere near as good as even being halfway up the North Stand at Leigh. Must say though that the experience this time around was far better than my last visit which was when Leigh were there for the opening game the other year. No problems parking at Eccles RL and straight on to the motorway afterwards, and the catering was much better organised than other venues have been.

| It wasn't an awful crowd but after going to the other local games and seeing much bigger crowds I would have hoped for more, especially with it being a british team. Salford is notorious for getting in and out of so maybe that put people off, although parking at eccles RL did a good job for me. I don't know :/ Although the fact that 6000 between Scotland and USA is being frowned upon just shows how well the world cup is doing.

Yeah Eccles RL is the best spot for parking. The view from the terracing is poor as stated however we did seem surprisingly switched on catering wise compared to some of the other venues.

Was chuffed that I saw they were selling Deuchar's on the concourse...until I remembered I was driving! Pies are good as well, the same supplier as Rochdale.

| Good pies at Salford.
It's a poor crowd in comparison to those especially achieved at Rochdale, Leigh and Workington and is looking like one of the worst ones of the lot. However Limerick and Neath's crowds I expect to be pretty low this weekend.

| I'd say 6k was a bad effort, but having never been to the new stadium, i can understand why now so many are critical of it, well not necessarily the stadium, but the access!
There is no stations within 2 miles of the ground, which is poor for actual trains itself, 1 an hour, isn't good enough in my personal opinion. The shuttle buses stopped 45 minutes before the game.
The Car parks were closed, and whilst walking, there are no footpaths to access the very popular Trafford Centre, which i was told 'is being built', only 3 seasons in ay boys!
Upon arriving at Irlam, I was told 'Shuttle Buses have stopped now, i'm afraid', this was at about 19:05, resulting in us missing kick off. Upon returning to the station, the train was delayed by 20 minutes, meaning missing our connection!
It may not be an actual gripe with the club itself, but they sit there, and wonder why their crowds are so low? It's because its so hard to get to!
The tram runs to the Trafford Centre, why not stretch it the extra mile to the ground?
Nevertheless, the second bad decision out of 3 of this world cup so far, sadly, and that was giving the game to Salford, (the others being Giving two to Hull KR and one in Ireland). It may of only been a 'rubbish' game, but given the fact that Scotland needed to win to stay in, and that USA were a surprise package, it was an appealing game, and a town like Castleford, Wakefield or Doncaster could have easily packed it out, other towns like St. Helens could have certainly done better than that too.
Oh Well, water under the bridge! We move on to what will be a big crowd tomorrow at Headlingley! Come on the Kumuls!

Textbook example of why stadiums need to be close to town centres.

| Nothing anybody could say or do would convince me that the attendance given was accurate. Anybody who went... think about whether you could have doubled that crowd and managed to fit them all in... as the capacity suggests that we could have done... Not a chance. Plenty over the attendance given.

Why would they announce a lower attendance than it really was, what benefit would they get from that? And don't mention for tax reasons, this isn't 1976.

I really have no idea why they would... My only suggestion would be that some tickets (maybe free or discount) weren't accounted for in the attendance. What I can tell you is that as a Salford fan, I know that stadium well enough to know that there was no way you could have got the same amount of people in again. I'd say that crowd was nearer to 8-8.5k.

| I went to both Mondays and Tuesdays games. I could have gone last night, but the teams just didnt seem as glamorous or exotic as Tonga, Samoa, PNG or the Cooks.
m sue a fair few people chose Leigh over Salford for that reason.

| I can't be too sure but the only stand that was anywhere close to being full was the smaller seated stand down the touchline, I was in the north just to the right of the sticks and to the right of me there was tons of room and even where I was stood we had a lot of space, the opposing terrace looked the same and the main stand had a lot of empty spaces too. I can't think of any reason why they would announce a lower crowd tbh.
How long will it be before all the roadworks etc are finished? It's a real shame the access is so poor.

Noticed the pump before the game but I think that was for advertisement purposes and they were actually selling it in cans. Still not a bad idea, mind.

Workington managed to increase their clubs weekly attendance by about 1000%, and that is hardly the most accessible place in Western civilization. It's called marketing.

Salford RLFC don't own the stadium. In fact, they don't even have a stake in it. Ownership is split 50-50 between the City of Salford and Peel Holdings. It was, I believe, the stadium management company that bid for the game, and therefore it's their responsibility to market it. They didn't. And they closed the car park, just to add an extra bit of numbnuttery.
Not sure how Salford RLFC are to blame for this.

There was never 8k on. I guessed at about 6.5k at the game. You could've fitted all the people who were standing in one of the terraces and both seating stands had about 2k in. It seemed busier than Salford games with similar crowds as there was a more even spread over the 4 stands rather than most home/away fans in the standing and not many in the seats.

It is in Salford RLFCs interest to market the game along with the council and stadium company. Last night was a fantastic opportunity to sell the game and the stadium to the wider Salford/Trafford/Manchester public. The vibrant occassion would entice people back, something that has been lacking on a match day for the last two seasons.
You are right about responsibility but you need to look at the bigger picture. An example. The stadium company are responsible for traffic management on the car park so allow all the pedestrians out of the stadium as a priority to vehicles. As soon as they are off the stadium area their interest disappears. Last night I walked in from Peel Green with a group including children. The motorway roundabout was dangerous with no footpath on what I would describe as the 'safer' side of the junction. Walking away from the stadium there was a flow of traffic going on to the M60 slip road while pedastrians were trying to cross safely. Most vehicles, as is the norm now a days, didnt bother indicating and were driving very quickly. We waited a good 3 mins before crossing. This may not be the responsibility of the stadium/club/council but in the wider scheme of things it does not encourage people to come back. This was a sporting 'event'. Most events encourage pedestrians and make sensible arrangements for them to get to the stadium safely.

| Salford have been plugging the game as much as they can do off their own backs. With very little backing from the stadium and council, however, there's not a lot more that could be done.
Still, it may have been the lowest so far, but it is still a very good turn out for Scotland v USA and much beyond what most of us thought we'd get.
