O'Connor was League. He played League as a Jnr but slipped through the net. Was told he was too small to make 1st grade. The new franchise in Brisbane say his a player they would want to sign if they get an NRL license. His favourite player is Andrew Johns and has worked with him now his moving to number 10.



The rules do give the union side an advantage.

Playing for a team who lacked enthusiasm, ideas and seemingly the most basic skills, largely ignored by his teamates and still manages a try. Well done Sam Tomkins.

He's been wasted on the wing if you ask me. Why invite one of the top players from the other code over only to play him in a position where he has no positional sense about anyway (even in RL) and where he will only get 7 or 8 touches in the whole game? You could hear the crowd noise raise every time time the ball was shipped his way just through the anticipation of what might happen. He couldn't have done any worse at FB than what the Barbarians 15 did.

Gotta say I'm well pleased for him to get that. I cant say whether it's a good exercise or not as we can't judge the perceptions of ALL league and union fans and administrators, but he's done himself proud.

Yeah, im honestly not surprised. He has the basic skill set that makes you look very good in Union and on top of that is a very good player. I hope he does come back to league one day. I reckon he'd do very well.

Tompkins looked good in attack, but struggled in defence. At least he knows the downsides as well as the upsides of the other code.

Tomkins was complete rubbish. Habana is miles better as is the Aussie winger. Some very good players on show in the game, much more impressive athletes than you see in league these days.

Tomkins has his work cut out to prepare for his move to Union. At the moment he's not up to international rugby Union.

Not too different to way plenty of Union fans for ages tried to criticise and ignore the ability of SBW until they saw him offloading for fun and then started waxing lyrical as they dont see much of that in there game.

I didn't watch the game. However, Tomkins is a Fullback/Stand Off in League, meaning that he would never be at his best when shoved out on the wing, especially against a good side like Aus and it only being his first game, although the article on the BBC about the game said that he played well.

Judging by the scoreline the entire Barbarians team was outclassed.
