| Quote ="gutterfax"And again I will answer PERCEPTION!
Let's say COMPANY A want to launch a new service that covers the UK and have decided to sponsor a comp that gives them exposure around the country. The look at the current marketplace and see Union has a naming rights sponsor that gets mentioned on TV, in the papers, on the radio and on-line as the AVIVA premiership.
Then they Look at Superleague, which hasn't had a paying naming rights sponsor for 2 years now, but will offer the same coverage as the AVIVA premiership on-line,in the papers, radio and on TV. The see that the last paying sponsor paid about 1/3 of the amount Aviva do, and will probably offer half the previous amount from 2 years ago. The RFL will decline the offer, holding out for more cash.......which when it doesn't come results in another year with no naming sponsor further devaluing the comp and making it harder to replace the money lost since Engage left.....
Instead, COMPANY A will pay 10% of the Engage figure and become the "official" mobile phone partner of the comp and like the Big Soup, Brut and Foxy Bingo deals before them, contribute to the image of the sport, in the eyes of major sponsors, that we are a tin pot organisation that can't nail down a MAJOR deal.
PERCEPTION.
Come back to me when SL announce that they have 10 little deals to replace the Engage money......until then, stop defending the indefensible!'"
I'm not defending anything. I asked why its worse to have a group of sponsors (like the Champions League) rather than 1 title sponsor if the total amount of sponsor income is the same. If its easier then think of it as a question about the CL or a random sports comp rather than SL, which seems to get you worked up. If a sports comp is receiving the same amount from several smaller sponsor deals rather than 1 big one, why is that a bad thing?

| Half our elite league is comprised of teams from northern towns. Can't be an easy job to tempt the global, blue chip companies that many fans seem to think would be queuing up, but for the incompetence of the RFL.

What a complete and utter tool. There's your answer. Why would a professional even post that? Is he some marketing intern or something? Even then I'd have him on a final warning.

| Again a very strange thing to say.
Anyway, we should all accept that you should have just one title sponsor, and definitely, not numerous sponsors because it's obvious for reasons we aren't going to say and it leaves a PERCEPTION of being tinpot.

Yes, you PERCIEVE it to be OK, while the rest of the world PERCIEVE it to be tinpot
Having a main title sponsor does not stop any other partner sponsors, have a look at a Formula 1 car, or even a SL rugby shirt

But all our clubs have main sponsors who take pride of place on the shirt and maybe elsewhere as well.
Saints have Typhoo, and they have just extended the deal for a further year. Typhoo sponsor one family stand at Langtree Park as well as being the primary shirt sponsor.
How did Saints manage to attract a nationally recognised brand like Typhoo but the RFL cannot do the same thing for the sport as a whole? Could it possibly be that the relevant staff at the RFL are simply not up to the job?

As it says on the ' wiki ' UEFA sponsorship page " Unlike most national competitions
So yes a Continent wide or worldwide competition can have the pulling power to bring in massive multinationals, and they would be stupid not to, but comparing Ford, Gazprom, Hieneken and Mastercard to ' contra ' deals with foxy bingo is quite ridiculous, then again you're good at that
At the level SL is a main sponsor should be the aim, to suggest otherwise is stupid

| So your assertion that deals with multiple partners instead of a title sponsor makes a competition look tinpot isnt disproved by what are probably the 4 biggest sports competitions in the world having multiple partners instead of a title sponsor because them having multiple sponsors is actually because they are the very opposite of tinpot. Yeah, that makes sense
can you explain why we didnt look tinpot in comparison when our title sponsor was a small northern financial firm and the RU premiership is sponsored by the 6th largest insurance firm in the entire world and the PL is sponsored by the 7th largest bank in the world?

£1.2 million a year seems like a lottery win compared to the status we have now.....and I believe that at the time it was the biggest naming rights deal for SL financially.

Exactly. Those competitions could easily have a title sponsor. My guess is that a rational economic decision was taken that it was more profitable to allow several MAJOR BRANDS to 'share the glory'. My next guess is that in the case of RFL, their problem wasn't one of being overwhelmed by brands queueing up to sponsor us, and thus their coming up with a strategy to let them all have a slice.
The problem, as usual, is the excuse making, instead of saying "you know what, I've failed, you need to let someone else have a go".

And nobody anywhere disagrees that more money is better.
If you could stop repeating that fairly self-evident fact which no-one disagrees with, there is a chance you could actually back up the point you made originally.

You do a really good job of arguing against yourself you know.
You don’t ever seem to make a post without completely undermining your own point in it.
If you are doing it on purpose and this is a weird confused schizophrenic persona, its really really well done.
