It does though. New chairman this year (albeit he's leaving at the end of the season) who has focused on making ends meet.

| The Top 6 all had 11 games against their fellow High Flyers. At the seasosns start any pudit would have probably seeded the games the way the fixtures came out....Toronto and Leigh being the favourites, London and Toulouse being the other full- time pro clubs and Fax and Fev being the next best sides.....at the seasons end for this mini league of 33 games:
Toronto have 20 points
Toulouse 11
Leigh have 10
Fax have 10
London have 9
Fev have 6
I've heard Leigh fans complain that their 3rd game v Toronto is the reason they missed out, but the reality is that it's their performances against non-top sides that have cost them, because their performances against London, fev, fax and Toulouse have been enough to get them to 3rd...but the loss to Barrow was the real reason they (will probably) fail.
As for next year, if the owner walks then that'll be them spent as a challenging force....it seems the elderado of SL and the hunt for it will be the undoing of another club......

Attendances are not great, but are slowly increasing. It's only a few every week, but getting closer to 2000 home fans. As a part-time club at the top of the Championship, 2000 attending is good. I believe the budgeted figure is around 1400 for Fax to break even.
Slow and steady, but if we can get those extra 600 bodies every week then the momentum builds.

| All I've got to say is well done to Halifax, who've (last game permitting) made the top 4. They won't get promoted to SL but I'm pretty sure they are well aware of that themselves. Hopefully they'll continue to get stronger each season until they may be in a position to make a genuine push to reach the top flight.
Unlike Leigh, who've made a pigs ear of it this year & that's the bottom line! DB has caused this mess & now he's walking away. He's the not first & won't be the last, but it's nowt to do with the system, just rank bad management.

Yes Derek unfortunatley put Keiron Cunningham in charge of recruitment , who felt it neccessary to decimate last years squad and install his own , who have proved they are no where near as good as they thought they were

It's called having AMBITION. I'd rather have the last 4 years as a Leigh fan, rather than a Halifax one.

That's your call, but I wouldn't. At some point we are going to start losing clubs & people will start banging on about the system when it's bad management, certainly on this occasion. They didn't have to blow their entire budget on a suicide mission. The parachute payment plus hopefully top 4 money could've funded sensible recruitment for a few years.

| My feelings for Leigh are well known. However, I feel sorry for their fans. Even boyroy. That said I can’t stand Beaumont. He’s a keyboard warrior, happy to threaten people over twitter with violence. Leigh fans deserve better

| That was not meant at a dig about Halifax. But surely at any sports club, ambition is better than just surviving. If Leigh had another 2 points, I doubt todays events would have happened. Beaumont has 'walked before' and he's done it again. Always best to have a 'consortium' in charge, rather than one individual I know. It's not like businessmen will be queing up to take over our club, or many other RL clubs for that matter. **** happens I guess, and it just did today.

Do they have dictionaries in Leigh or calculators for that matter?
The funny thing is in 12 to 18 months we'll have the usual suspects on here saying that Leigh has thousands of fans waiting to crawl out of the woodwork & a great stadium, let us back in SL.

| It is partly the fault of the structure, as to make it work, the Championship has to produce teams capable of challenging the super league clubs in the Middle 8's. The problem is that to be sustainable, they have to work on the assumption that they might not make the Middle 8's and budget accordingly. We saw with Bradford and now Leigh that if you spend on the expectation of the top 4 and you don't make it, you are in deep doodahs. The reality for the ones who are there is that the Super League teams will beat them with relative ease, and the Middle 8's will just be about who plays Toronto in the MPG.
The only sustainable way forward is franchising, but the emphasis was wrong last time. It should be based on inclusion, not exclusion. What I mean is that last time there were a finite number of places and more applicants than places. It meant teams who were perceived to be vulnerable couldn't attract investment or players.
Instead, they should re-introduce franchising with the current top flight, and if any clubs want to join, they are considered as additional clubs. That is, the effort goes into how to manage a bigger league. It could be through a conference set-up, and with an increased overseas quota, in case the talent pool is too thin. Then clubs can attract investment, knowing that the future is about security and growth, which would be good for the sport.
Or we could introduce a gimmicky new structure that we want to abandon after a few seasons.

1. 6 Wins is a disgrace......Salford with 6 wins this year are propped up by Widnes and you were propped up by Widnes.....all three clubs have not a snowballs chance in Hell of winning SL, but they are canon fodder for those trying to reach the Holy Grail that is the safety of the Super 8's......
2. It's not the buying of the Lottery ticket of the betting slip....it's whose money is used to buy it and the expected returns......Del spent money, Del arranged to get more money when Leigh went down, Del has spent that money and now Leigh look to be heading part time at best......I have no doubt the short term buzz of SL was great, but I am also sure that the long term damage it did will hurt for a fair few years.....like the 3k fans who haven't bothered this year.....attendances will shrink and the SL trip will fade into time.....

it's not our fault our ego maniac of an owner has no interest in owning a part time championship side that can only hope they make the top 4. He isn't prepared to 'cash up' on us staying full time, and having a chance of getting into SL...that's the problem.

Ah....so when you follow the egomaniac to SL it's cool, but when he dummy spits it's his fault
6 Wins v sides who made the top 8 is great.....but as I say, at what cost to the club has the drubbing of Wigan come at?

| Leigh have a very nice little stadium. They deserve to be in the top 6 of the Championship. But next year, with Derek Beaumont gone, will they be in the top 6?
Of the current top 4, Toronto is likely to be promoted to Super League in 2019 and Toulouse is a possibility. That means that in 2019 either 2 clubs (London and Halifax) or 3 clubs (London, Halifax, and Toulouse) of the Championship teams will each be getting £1.25 million and Leigh will be on £200k
So Leigh will almost certainly not make the MPG, and may not make the top 6, in 2019.
Derek Beaumont just wanted the glory of Super League. Without that he is not prepared to support Leigh. He is not a real club man. He is just a glory seeker and a quitter.

I think you'll find that they will get 750K and not 1.25m. Leigh received that this year due to 750K central funding and 500k parachute payment.

| I've said this before and I'll say it again, I'd rather the people running the sport put all of their effort into making the game as good as it can be for the people who are actually interested in it (heartlands supporters), instead of chasing expansion. Build from the bottom up. I'll probably say it again when we have the magic weekend being played in an empty stadium in new york and us lot watching it on tv.

| As a Leigh fan of well over 50 years let me give you my version of these past few Beaumont years.
Firstly it is quite enlightening to read some of the comments directed in Mr Beaumont's direction from people who hide behind a pseudonym so they cannot be identified when they vent the pent up anger on those who have at least stood up to be counted.
Mr Beaumont is no different to most who write on this site, he loves the game of RL and he loves the club of the town of his birth and where he still resides.
Am I angry at him, yes I am, I would gladly stand face to face with him and argue that his decision process on the appointments he made are the reasons we are were we are at this present moment, but I am also savvy enough to realise he took all those decisions for what he thought was the best way forward for the club, and backed them up with a lot of his own money, he is a fan of the club first and foremost and everything he did he did with the best of intentions albeit they backfired, there are a lot of Leigh fan's hurting at this present time, none I expect as much as Mr Beaumont is.
I fully expect him to resurface as a paying fan and will see him stood in the Northstand along with all the other diehards still in attendance next season, I will make a point of thanking him for all his efforts, but I wished he had been a little more shrewd in his thinking.
