Are you being serious?
Without looking, since we've I'd say we have survived being relegated on the last game of the season at least 3 times, been in the bottom 2 maybe 6 times and been in administration/IVA a couple of times. With a return of 0 Silverware 0 Finals and 2 playoff appearances - hardly regular mid table side!

| i laughed when i first heard it.... he may have been serious, but it was never going to happen.. But lets be honest, the offer did what it was designed to do. It showed everyone he is serious and and got RL some much needed publicity. The more wealthy owners we have in RL trying to buy the best players the better.
Salford will now be an attractive proposition for decent players, as they know that there will be plenty more on the way.... Hopefully with these decent players bigger crowds will come... Having another competitive team in the league will do it the world of good.
Well player sir.

| The Tomkins bid reminds me of when Jack Walker took over Blackburn Rovers and one of the 1st things they did was to make a bid for Gary Lineker and all the press and football public thought they were joking so Walker went out and brought in Kenny Dalglish as manager then everybody sat up and took notice. All Salford need to do is to bring in 1 big name player or coach and others will follow.

| As long as Manchester has a team that is winning the Premier League or being a close second, i dont think Salford have a chance.
Great that the mad Dr has come in and saved them but as many have said it is a long process. They need consistency, and the upheval of players wont help that.
Good luck to them mind, if they do get 8-10k crowds ill feel rather ashamed of myself.

Well said that man! You show me a club whove been whipping boys for the past 30 years and get above what Salford are getting?
Simple answer is the public like to follow success and iff Salford are successful you'll be seeing a huge rise in attendances ill put my house on it!'"
Totally agree, success and star quality. Let's hope he convinces people to restructure the cap - far from protecting the smaller clubs ( totally failed ) it prevents a turnaround by guys like this. The "steady growth is better" argument is a red herring. Yes, its better if it actually worked, but it hardly ever does. Salford ( and London ) need an injection of rocket fuel to get them going. Its hard to "steadily grow a fanbase" when you get stuffed most weeks. You can have plenty rules to prevent unsustainable debt on a club - a flat, hard cap is not the only way.

Manchester's a big old place you know. More than enough people to acheive 25k Salford fans in principle. ( not easy, I'll grant you that). Even a little town like Wigan copes.

| Perhaps a winning Salford team would stop all those mancunians going to watch the likes of Wigan and Saints like many have over the years.
A successful team won't bring those who already support Wigan etc... to us, but it might encourage new supporters of RL to support their local SL team.

.....25k!!!!??...
Not a chance - I've always maintained, having spent plenty of time in the area working, the main problem with Salford is that the vast majority of their population don't even realise they have a rugby team and have little interest in discovering them either.
I compare it to places like Wigan, Widnes, Wakefield and Castleford, where even if their crowds may dip, the non attendees are still aware of their existance and take an interest in their progress.....If, when in Salford, I bring up Rugby League, most folk just look at me as though I'm talking about tiddlywinks.
Overall, its going to be a massive job to get the people of Salford (or Manchester) interested in their club....It doesn't help that you built your ground on a piece of wasteland, in the middle of nowhere..

Yeah because they really struggle to get people over to the Trafford Centre built in the middle of nowhere on a piece of wasteland!!!!!
Whilst I will agree 25k may be asking a bit much. If Salford are able to capitalise on the RL community of Greater Manchester. And come across as the only Greater Manchester team ( yes I do realise Wigan is also GM) then 25k may not actually be to big a pipe dream!

.....A huge shopping centre location is vastly different to that of Rugby club that aspires to attract the local population.
Look at the locations of Warrington's and St Helens' new stadiums....Both built in the heart of the towns, both easily accessible to the vast majority of those towns.
Salford chose to move their ground a significant distance from their old ground, to a piece of wasteland that isn't exactly easily accessible by foot....It wasn't the greatest idea.

Yeah I agree. But when the TC was built the amount if local people who always said I'm never going there only to state years later what a fantastic place it was. I was just showing how your wasteland statement was really a non argument.
Position wise whilst not as central as it was it's still accessible albiet more difficult. A lot of work will be going on into building more infrastructure such as the extra access roads, bridge over the ship canal etc.... buses are being put on very cheaply from the willows, walkden, eccles etc....... to all help make getting to he ground easier.
Unfortunately SL dictated that that The Willows was obselete, All the away fans moaned about damage to their property from the local scallies. This was according to the council the only brownfield site available to develop. Teh rest is history as they say.
