in major finals suggests otherwise.

I said this when Leeds won the Grand Final but the only reason they won - or got remotely close to the final was Rob Burrow, take him out of the game and Leeds offer little in attack

Wigan controlled Burrow tonight and Leeds didnt look like scoring

Chomp, chomp! Leeds have been much more successful than Wigan in recent years. I don't suppose they give a tuppeny t who they beat in the many grand finals they've contested.

At least half of these were when Wigan were the only full time pro team in the country, so when you consider the full picture, it's a little more balanced than you'd like to paint.

Wigan were by far the better team tonight, but you don't win SL in round 2...

Leeds went full-time professional before Wigan did. The 0 against Leeds suggests there's no balance at all.

Did anyone else think it would be worth an 8 point try when Lee Smith slid in legs first into Charnley?

I must admit I was happy to see him in pain not long after, he is an utterly despicable character the way he behaves on the pitch (usually throwing a punch after "winning" a penalty etc) so to see his game shortened was a happy sight.

BTW, I am also a little disappointed that McIlorum had the tenacity to do something similar to Hauraki when he was given a penalty for being held down. We need a rule change which stops this sort of behaviour. At the moment you can only give a scrum against a penalty in this situation, it needs to be a reversed penalty.

Wanna bet? I remember distinctly that time. I guess I've been around a bit longer than you, so you might want to be totally sure of your facts. The best person to ask would be Alf Davies, he's an oracle on rugby of that era. I've done this in the past by the way.

I'm sure the oracle that is Rogues will happy put you right, from what I remember you lot went a few months before Wigan. Leeds is the one team you can't use the full-time argument as a way of explaining the 6-0.

Then we will have to disagree, as we are both as sure as each other. Unless Rogues is actually Alf, and he may be, then I'm happy to stick with the word of a person who was involved at the time, and the events as I remember them actually happening.

Whilst the 6-0 is categoric fact, that's far too simplistic a way to measure the success of the two clubs.

The 6-0 was just to put someone right (not a Leeds fan either) who did the Leeds win when it matters against Wigan thing who when put right did the I was just trolling bit to hide their own embarrassment. Bless him.

I think he had 1 good game vs St helens then he was terrible for the rest of his time here..

Eddie and Stevo are also very poor, just give it to Carney + John Wells. Get the likes of Noble and others rotating alongside them, people who can actually string a decent sentence together.

A lot of people have been crying out for the top team contests to be televised. To be honest I thought that the one sided nature of last nights contest made the game the worst to view of the four so far. Even Saints and Salford had a long period of competetiveness.

Did you not know Ellery Hanley had to get a part time job as a bin man when he went to Leeds!

Phil Clarke can be pretty cringe worthy but Stevo is just as bad. For instance Maguire blatantly taking Richards out going for a high kick, Maguire clearly looks at Pat not the ball, gets in his way yet Stevo had a good cry about it and claims he was clearly going for the ball!??... they are all as bad as each other but it certainly wasnt all pro wigan as some people have made out.

Alibert as usual made some dodgy calls, infact, he doesn't seem to know the rules at times. but it goes for both sides, the lima ptb was a penalty.. the burrows pass was a bad one but other than that a lot of the calls where 50/50 just for once the 50/50s went to wigan for a change.


Either way, Wigan where the better team on the night and no one can argue about that. No matter how poor Alibert was I don't think it changed the result.
