So, how self sustainable are Sts Academy?
Or the vast majority of SL clubs for that matter?

| Quote ="dirtbag83"..... The U20's is a poor competition and the vast majority of games are one-sided blowouts. Young players on both sides will learn nothing from a 70-0 drubbing so a link-up with a Championship club instead will provide a more consistent test, as well as allowing Championship teams to have a bigger pool of talented youngsters to play for them'"
So you'll have the same players players playing against the same players, albeit in differently named teams at a different venue in a differently named competition and that will improve standards? Amazing.

Yes I do
Not Saints,Wires or anybody else's academy

| It really gets on my nerves this patronising, condescending attitude from fans of SL clubs. Rugby league is only small as it is with 12 professional and twenty semi-Professional clubs and you want to get rid of all the semi-pro teams?? We get no interest from the media at the moment, so what interest will there be in a game consisting of only twelve clubs, spread along the M62. That would put us on a par with ice hockey and basketball.
You don't get football supporters saying Hartlepool or Bristol havn't done anything for year so they should shut up shop or become a feeder club for Newcastle or whatever. There would be no interest in watching a club that was dependant on a SL club, and that included a load of kids from their academy. We watch our clubs as they represent our town, not the enemy up the road. Would Hull supporters have been happy fifteen years ago for them to become Hull KR's feeder team and to get the chance of seeing Rovers reserves playing for them. I don't think so, so why should Keighley, Batley or Hunslet's fans?
Also except for a few squad members including SL kids would lower the standard as U-20s is a much lower standard than the Championship and lower than most of C1. keighley have played St. Helens and Bradford in pre-season friendleys in the last two years, and even though we played a fair from full strength team the scores were 44-0 and 46-12 ansd we awere C1.
Just because Australia does it doesn't mean we should. We live in Britain, not the cultural wasteland of Australia.

It would be an all academy lineup. The CC club would still have whatever stock of players they could afford, but could add to that with players like those mentioned.
Are you telling me you wouldn't like to see the likes of Evans, Higham and Anderson trotting round for Leigh?

You just don't get it do you? How many games would they play before trotting back to the 'parent' SL club? How do the CC know who they might get over the coming season, for how many games and therefore what players of their own they need to sign to ensure all positions are covered?

Probably the best analogy I've read on here in a long time. What really gets my goat is the current crowing from a certain number of posters on here about Leigh's poor financial situation, while conveniently forgetting that 90% of Super League clubs would be passing us in the creek if it weren't for the Sky money.

| When the Sky gravy train runs out and all clubs return to semi pro status the winners will be the well managed clubs run to a budget without the aid of a sugar daddy.
