Opposition fans jump all over a story based around some comments they haven't seen, simply on the basis it involves one of the sport's pantomime villains.

An American actor got fired from his job the other day for doing the exact same thing as Bailey, just on Twitter not Facebook, but I doubt Leeds will fire him.

but thats America (yes thats right the land of free speech) - in the UK, it should be perfectly acceptable to remark on world events in a jocular fashion. If he had come out and said that he was glad that this disaster had been inflicted on Japan, that would be totally different. Passing on a tongue in cheek funny joke is just part of life - get over it. And what it has to do with the RFL or rugby league is a mystery.

Bailey just wants sacking. The guy's an absolute tool.

The Godzilla joke was on the radio here as I was going to work on Tuesday.

Bad taste jokes are just that - they offend some people whilst others find them funny. I have been on both sides of that particular divide. Some people got upset by the Diana jokes. I laughed.

As someone else said, there's a huge difference in passing round bad taste jokes and actually saying you're glad of wht's happening etc.

Point I'm making though is even if it had been James Graham, who I dislike, I would have stuck up for him in this situation. He doesn't need a lynch mob, a smacked hand will suffice.

I think when you earn a living as a professional sportsman (or if you are in the public eye) you do have a duty not to type stupid things on your facebook status or post tweets on twitter.

I accept that as a 'professional sportsman' someone like Ryan Bailey is pretty low down the list of people that might influence youngsters but even so I'm sure there are some people that might look up to him.

Ultimately thousands of people in Japan have lost everything (including their lives) and if a di ckhead like Ryan Bailey finds the need to joke about it then it shouts volumes about the sort of person he is.

Why does Ryan Bailey have any duty over what he puts on facebook or twitter?

If you are leaving your kids to be brought up by the social networking of Ryan Bailey you have failed as a parent, Ryan Bailey owes you nothing.

As someone who plays professional rugby league (no matter how badly) Ryan Bailey will naturally attract more people viewing his twitter or facebook pages than someone like yourself would who with respect is probably a workshy layabout who just seems to spend every waking hour of his sad 'non life' arguing with someone called Starbug on an online internet forum.

Therefore Ryans posts about Japanese citizens drowning/dying/being on the 'swimfast' diet or whatever else he found amusing to post will be visible to a wide range of people. Sadly many of those people will be impressionable youngsters who might think 'If a Leeds Rhinos player is making jokes about it then it must be ok'


As I said if thats the sort of stuff he finds amusing then it sums the guy up really.

They'll be exactly as visible as anyone else's posts on social networking sites.

Ryan Bailey's only consideration should be how his use of social media reflects on him, same as anyone else. I don't buy this whole "sportsmen as moral role models" cobblers that gets trotted out every time something like this happens.

In this country people have a right to say whatever they want – in fact there are people losing their lives all over the Middle East trying to win this right

Ryan Bailey can and should be able to say whatever he wants

Most people will consider him an @rse anyway for posting such jokes

We should also remember that after 9/11, the soon-to-be England football captain and his high profile team-mate engaged in 'high-jinks' in public far worse than Ryan Bailey being a bit of an idiot on Facebook. In that case, they were fined by their club, no FA involvement. I expect similar, if anything, in this case.

I got one about Japan, which i did not understand at all, until I got home and heard about the quake on the news. I since have had lots, as most will have, I don't think this has anything to do with my employers though.

Seems a bit of a nothing story this.
Cant see him getting anything other than a quick telling off.
