| Quote ="MattyB"Whilst it would be fantastic if they extended due to demand they only had two sell out crowds last season with the remaining games well short of capacity. So I doubt it will be any time soon yet.'"
If they filled in the corners and put another tier on top of their mainstand (which I believe was the overall plan) theyd have a capacity of 25k.
I think there's a good chance that they'd be able to sell out a stadium of that size twice in a season within 2-3 years of its completion (provided the ticket pricing doesn't put people off). Audacious I know, but if Wire, Saints and Wigan remain successful on the pitch and in the marketing departments I can see this happening.
As far as the other games are concerned Wire are successful, well marketed in the community and have a good vibe in the ground. Away supporters are more likely to go for the ground for the facilities and the vibe. I think the problem at the moment is that the capacity is capped at 13k. The popular stand is always packed, so (as a home fan) you either have to stand with the away support or pay a bit extra to sit along the pitch or behind the sticks where the atmosphere is arguable not as good. I sum of these parts means that walk ups are less likely to pop down to a match. If the stadium was larger and there was more space to stand or more cheaper seats along the side of the pitch then you'd see an increase in attendences.
An extension also means more folk to get through the gate for the WCC, CC semis and Championship finals.

| aha I saw that in the guardian at lunch time after posting here earlier. Good to see.
Would be even more impressive if the capacity hadnt been reduced by 1,500 after one game

Awesome!
Surprised there won't be more hospitality boxes built in that corner above the seats. Suppose its cheaper to build without, but might be cost effective in the long run. There's a great atmosphere there already, but with the corners filled in it'll be immense!

| It will be a very good atmosphere, a step in the right direction, IMO. Evenutally, I'd imagen the other two corners, each side of the West terrace will follow, and their is also the option of another tier of seats above the South Stand, like Andy Gatcliffe has suggested.

| It is usually just the away end that prevents a sell out now. Majority of our fans prefer the south stand and there is always a rush for tickets with it selling out for nearly every game now. So with the extension the south stand will still come close to selling out. The atmosphere will sound alot better aswell hopefully just need to kick on again and maybe the other two corners will be filled in.

If it is just the basics, £2million sounds stupendously expensive for that job!

I'm not a Warrington fan at all mate but I'm pretty sure it's at the opposite end to the away fans.

Not in my experience mate. Every time I've been to the HJ they've been stood to our right (as we face the pitch), as close to the away fans as they can get. None of them seem to actually watch the game.

| I think he means the extension, which will be at the other end of the stadium. Don't worry, you'll still have the gap between your good selves and the so-called 'Pond Life' end of the south stand.
I had the misfortune of standing there once, turned up late for a game and stood in the first place I could find. I know what you mean, I taught in Germany for a year and their English is better than some of the people who stand there...

Aaah right, getcha. Didn't read into it too deeply, just assumed they were filling all the corners in. Wonder if they could add a cage for the gorillas we all have to put up with?

| A small minority yes, but every club has its idiots. It just really annoys me when a club tries to improve itself (and the games image) and opposition supporters just slag that club off. Rugby League supporters have a bad habit of being negative about most things that don't concern their own club. We should all be shouting from the rooftops about our game, not dumbing it down.

It is indeed a minority (hence my use of the word 'gang'), but unfortunately for Warrington they are extremely vocal, make their presence known throughout games by gathering next to the away end and often take their threats too far and go looking for violence outside the ground.
Most Wire fans are the same as any other RL fan - there to watch the game and up for banter and a laugh, and have my respect. Wigan vs Wire is always an epic game and your fans do you justice.
Not that lot of gutter trash though.
In all seriousness, the development of the ground is fantastic news.

I pretty much agree with everything you've said, especially about the negativeness EXCEPT for the first phrase. They are a minority but its a rather large minority and growing imo. Anyway, glad to see the ground improvements, I just wish they hadn't had the reduction in the first place and we'd now be looking at a 16,500 capacity for next season

It wouldn't surprise me if this time next year the club announces the extension of the other two corners in time for 2013.

To some extent I do agree with you, it's just that every time a club does something positive someone just knocks it down. This doesn't happen in RU. Even Bloodgate got a positive outcome from RU fans!
I'm also not closing my eyes to the problems the club has in one corner of the ground and it needs to be sorted out. I was speaking to one of the'casuals' in a pub in Cardiff. I might as well have been talking to a brick wall. Complete idiot. Names like the Warrington Casuals and Wigan Ultras also bother me. They are taken directly from well known football hooligan gangs and can only mean one thing.
