| Quote ="Dico"Everyones always got a problem with the referees especially in the Championship. The best I heard was 'we lost by 6 points only because the ref cheated.......'
Let him have his pop and see what he's like.
Top and bottom of it we need two referees. You shouldn't even need a great standard you just need two.
The refs in SL have been a lot, lot better since the introduction of full time but people still swear they're right even after multiple replays on a big screen.
That is all'"
Yep, the ref's aren't helped by Eddie and Stevo moaning about every incorrect decision because it makes them seem worse than they are.
The Lee Smith try in the Grand Final is a perfect example. Lee Smith, according to the rules and ref's guidance, was onside, yet Eddie & Stevo were convinced he wasn't and so suddenly it becomes controversial. If that incident had happened at a game without TV cameras it wouldn't have been controversial at all.
From what I see on TV most incorrect decisions are on things like when the ball comes loose in a tackle and the ref has to decide whether it was ripped out or dropped and is usually incredibly difficult to see what really happened in real time. Then all we as spectators see is the super slow mo replay on SKY showing the opposite to what the ref gave which I would imagine in most cases is simply a "best guess".
And despite getting incredibly annoyed at refs when im physically at a game, I usually go home and watch it on TV and begrudgingly admit they're right more often than not.
A 2nd ref monitoring the tackle and play the ball has to be the way forward.

| Saying he is 'awful' doesn't offer much constructive criticism. In my opinion, he doesn't referee with much common sense. He blew up for too many minor things (as mentioned with the Cas game) and just didn't let the game flow at all, very frustrating.
Hopefully he will improve in SL, but I think he might struggle early on. Saying that, Ashley Klein struggled alot early into his SL career but he did improve and won SL ref of the year at one stage.

Agree 100% Rob.
Eddie & Stevo spend far too long debating 50/50s when there's a game going on. A decision was made, lets get on with it.
Aaand, they get 90% of those 50/50s right anyway.
Yes there are bad refs, but no ref ever cheats. Players have bad days, refs have bad days the best team almost always wins anyway

Yep, and the 10% they get wrong there's usually a good reason, like they couldn't see it or it looked like 1 thing happened in real time but in slow mo actually something else happened.
There is an issue with consistency from 1 ref to another which gets people (including me!) annoyed at games, but I think if people look across all sports they will find a problem with consistency of the officials. Whether its football, RU, cricket whatever it is people moan about the refs!

That’s what I was thinking when I read this, double standards at Red Hall – never.
He always appeared to be a meek little thing when he was running the line. I just hope he doesn’t get too intimidated and become another home town ref.

As stated previously I shall be following the new "Cougars" from the comfort of my living room, TV, Radio, Keighley News and League Express.
My days of going to Lawkholme Lane (Actually the ground was never there it was always on Hardings Road) are gone.
The last period of mismanagement was the straw that broke the camels back.
The only live game of "professional" RL I shall see this season is the Challange Cup Final as that is always booked in advance and after this season I will not be attending that either.
The GAME itself is still great!
How it is run, organised and portrays itself isn't!!!
Hope that clarifys things

| He's shocking was at the cas cru game he was getting abused from the cas crowd he jogged off the pitch fine at half time but didn't come out for the second due to a "leg injury" and was replaced by a ref who gave everything to cas and I mean everything. Their fans were disghusting especially the scumbag kids spitting chewing gum at us whe the retard stewards watched and giggled to himself. Either way a ref who bottles it at half time doesn't belong on any field let alone a pro one.
In the pub opposite we met some cracking cas fans but the stadium was rammed with the dreggs if humanity I can see Cornwall from my window and I thought they were bad!

| Think we had him twice last season. 1st time he seemed to be completely against us, as far as I can remember we had a man sent off, a few tries disallowed and continually penalised for what seemed like nothing. Next time we had him it was the opposite, the opposition were getting pinged every 2 seconds for offside, lying on etc.
The comment earlier about him penalising the same team about 6 times in a row and from what I have seen of him, it think its possible that once he's penalised a team he feels he has to make a point of punishing them if there is any hint that they are stepping out of line. Its almost like he takes it personally that a team has dared to commit an offence and sees it as his duty to stamp his authority on that team. Once he's picked up on something, your team better had keep its nose clean or you've had it.
Some people on here have said that he likes to let games flow, I'd say the opposite. In the games I've seen and comments made by fans early last year, his penalty count is far higher than what you normally get. He seems to be real stickler for common offences like offsides, lying on, play the balls etc, but not so dominant when things are getting out of hand and tackles are flying in.

Common offences!!!!!
Proof, if really required, that the players either don't know the rules or attempt to break them at every opportunity or both and if they do and are caught the "fans" are upset!!!!!!
As regards penalty counts the above applies as well. If the PLAYERS played to the rules then, =#4000FFand I could be wrong on this, the penalty count would be less.

Strange that according to you there was nothing wrong with him and yet the xrays and MRI scan at the hospital showed a fracture in his foot. Maybe your analysis of his injury is as true as your analysis of his performance.

| A foot fracture? Oh come on please what a bloody fairy. Strap it up and carry on. Finish the game then get it treated. utterly pathetic what will it be next year? Missing a few games with a broken nail?
The guy was jogging round fine so it couldn't have been that bad or he would have had to come off mid way through the half. If you can finish the half t you can finish the game!

| Sorry folks, had to drag this one up again after yesterdays 'performance'.
Ruined any chance of a spectacle for fans of both teams with 27 penalties in a pre season run out.
Picky is an understatement.
Sent 2 players off and sin binned one in what wasn't a dirty game apart from the sendings off incident (IMO he wouldn't have sent Coyle off for a high shot if Fitzpatrick hadn't retaliated with a punch) and continually disrupted proceeding with his new shiny Christmas present.
This fella needs to calm down with his whistle and let teams get on with it if he wants to gain any respect.
